Character Description

Rove is one of the Plains Runners, but unlike the scouts or warriors that share the title, his weapon is his voice—and his shield, wit. With nimble feet and a honeyed tongue, Rove acts as Careen’s personal bard and jester. He entertains during war councils, softens tension between rival warriors, and even dares to mock Careen herself—something few would ever attempt, let alone survive.

Background/History

Note: Rove, however, seems immune to her wrath. Maybe it’s because his jokes are never cruel, or perhaps because he’s just that hard to hit. His dexterity is uncanny, slipping past thrown daggers, spit curses, and even the rare blade swipe with a dance-like spin and a smile.

Note: Rove is a great friend of Nequi, with whom he often sings—sometimes playful duets around the campfire, sometimes heartbreaking ballads that make even the toughest warriors pause mid-meal. He harbors quiet affection for both Nequi and Veer, though he’s never confessed to either. Instead, he channels his longing into his music, hoping they’ll hear what he cannot say.

Note: Though not a warrior, Rove can defend himself when pressed, using misdirection, speed, and terrain to escape. He’s trained lightly with Hand to Hand, but never stays still long enough to get serious.

Note: Rove is also responsible for oral tradition within the tribe, carrying stories, songs, and names that might otherwise be lost. He remembers everyone, even the ones long gone—especially Tlamanalistli, whose favorite song he still sings on quiet nights.
