Cui is Aztec for "Take"

Cui is a little shadow that flits through the tribe, always watching, always listening. Sneakiest of Careen’s adopted Poochyena children, they have a natural talent for going unnoticed—whether it’s slipping between tents, hiding in the tall grass, or climbing up into the trees where no one thinks to look. They don’t mean any harm; they just have to know what’s going on.

Note: Secrets are his favorite thing in the world. Who’s arguing? Who’s making up? Who’s sneaking extra food when they think no one’s looking? Cui collects little scraps of information like others collect pretty stones, storing them away in their mind, just waiting for the perfect moment to reveal juuust enough to stir up some fun. Not enough to be mean—just enough to keep life interesting.

Note: They love playing spy games with their caretaker, Ramble, who always humors them by pretending not to notice when they’re trailing behind. Their siblings might groan when Cui brags about “important tribe business” they overheard, but deep down, everyone knows—if something’s happening, Cui probably knew about it first.
