Manjack (semi-undead human semi-puppet)
Character Description
Personality
More kindhearted than his fellow undead but he's unfortunately the cause of the problem and is not ashamed of what he's done. Honorable and loyal to his fellow undead and skeptical and untrusting of anyone else, it hides his nicer side. A good friend and a person who loves to help others, he's humble and calming. However he gets riled up by oppression and has been known to violent towards prejudice people. One day he'll think of himself first and could become a dangerously selfish individual. Patient and observant though not entirely introverted, he doesn't like clever things but he's nobody's fool. Being able to speak to inanimate objects he can turn them to his will and no secrets are safe from him. He can also hide in or travel through inanimate objects without affecting them. Being Physically strong, he leads by example, leading from the front and joining in the workload. His biggest asset is his strength against that which harms undead however he's weak to that which harms humans.
Background/History
Dod original comes from Demona near Hornwater to the south. Despite living near the sea he found his calling in clockworks and became a miller and eventually a crane technician at the docks in Hornwater. One day when maintaining the crane his sleeve got caught in the mechanism and his hand got caught in the gears. With the bones in his hand broken the only option was amputation. Following the operation he got a prosthetic hand in the form of a wooden hook which was even stronger than his hand ever was. When a mistake was made by another worker at the docks, a heavy crate came loose from its bindings while Dod was lifting it. Seeing the crate was about to fall on one of the workers he rushed over and pulled the man to safety with his hook but Dod didn't get entirely out of the way himself and his leg was crushed under the crate. After another amputation and another prosthetic limb, he found he couldn't grip the floor strong enough to lift the crates anymore and the leg couldn't hold enough weight stable enough for him to lift bags of flour either.
Worried about his future job prospects he went for a drink. He then overheard some sailors discussing that they needed a strong man to work the rigging with an iron grip, and realizing he would only need one good leg and the strength of his hook, he approached the men about the job. Skeptical, one man took one look at his hook hand and shooed Dod away. Angry that they could refuse him even with his reputation in town for having a strong grip, he collared the one that had fobbed him off with his hook hand and lifted the man into the air. The man being rather impressed gave Dod the job and soon Dod was sailing the seas.
However the cargo ship was attacked by a group of pirates who sank the ship. In the battle Dod fought well throwing pirates overboard and holding them off even though they were wielding swords. However when he found a cannon in his face he had little choice but to surrender. The pirate captain however admired Dod's strength and, instead of killing him, he captured him and took him onto the pirate ship. However Dod used his hook to untie himself and tried to escape but being on the pirate ship he had nowhere to go unless he wanted to try swimming the oceans back to Hornwater. Realizing it was pointless to escape, he promised to serve the pirates until they reached dry land, but the captain was not keen to see a potential crew member go and threatened to kill him if he tried to leave. In the weeks it took to reach land Dod grew an affinity with the ship, learning its every curve and fixture. After a particularly good haul the pirates came to shore and planned to ditch the ship in favor of buying a better one.
When they arrived in port they said that didn't need Dod anymore as they could hire better crew and said that they were going to take the ship apart for boards and sell them on. Dod not wanting to lose the ship he loved, waited til the pirates were distracted with drink, untied the ship from the dock and sailed away alone on the ship. The pirates seeing their ship being untied from the window gave chase but they were too late as the ship was already to far to reach unless by boat. They were about to give chase when the captain stopped them. The pirate laughed and said that Dod is a dead man having chosen to sail a ship alone at sea.
However Dod did remarkably well on the ocean and sailed himself back to Hornwater where acquired a crew and became his own captain. However having little money he chose the cheapest crew who happened to be undead pirates. However after preventing a mutiny, he got respect from his crew members and they sailed the seas delivering cargo. That was until he landed in Neoursheir where they got a stable job as a ferry to the various offshore islands. However many are not happy they have chosen to settle here.
Relatives/Family
Dod's family live in Demons which is far to the south.
World/Setting
set in a fictional world much like medieval Europe, there are various mythological creatures around including fairies and undead as well as humans. Humans tend to live with their own kind and only interfere with fairy kind when they want something. Fairies however tend to visit the human world uninvited though most don't cause any trouble unless provoked. Undead however are little troublemakers and disliked by both sides as they are a pest to everyone. In the land of Neoursheir, humans and fairies have lived quite happily alongside each other by keeping to their own kind, however the introduction of undead to the area has caused a stir, especially as they aren't interested in keeping out of other people's business.
