Character Description

Drown is Keelhaul’s younger brother, cut from the same brutal lineage but tempered by restraint rather than bloodlust. Where Keelhaul rules through fear and spectacle, Drown commands respect through strength, consistency, and an unspoken sense of fairness. He is a formidable presence—physically powerful, battle-tested, and more than capable of violence—but he uses that capacity sparingly, aware of the cost it exacts on both the wielder and the world around them.

Background/History

Note: Outwardly, Drown is loyal to his brother to the point of self-erasure. He follows orders without open question, enforcing Keelhaul’s will when required and maintaining the appearance of unwavering obedience. This loyalty is not born of blind devotion, but of survival; Drown understands better than most that defiance would not end in argument, but in annihilation. Beneath that obedience, however, lies a quiet moral line he refuses to cross unless forced.

Note: Among the tribesmen, Drown is well regarded. He listens more than he speaks, intervenes when necessary, and avoids cruelty for its own sake. This measured approach has earned him a reputation as someone dependable—dangerous, yes, but predictable, and therefore safer than most in Keelhaul’s shadow.

Note: His greatest secret is Laksha. Drown is deeply, privately in love with her, and she with him. Their affection is careful, restrained, and laced with constant fear. A glance held too long, a hand brushing another’s in passing—nothing more. They both know that discovery would be catastrophic. Keelhaul would not hesitate to make an example of his own brother, and Laksha would suffer alongside him. This knowledge binds them in silence, forcing their love into stolen moments and unspoken understanding.

Note: Drown harbors quiet contempt for Tamoa, whose habits and unpredictability grate against his disciplined nature. He distrusts excess and indulgence, seeing them as weaknesses that invite chaos. His dislike of Haksoba runs deeper—rooted in revulsion. Haksoba’s cruelty, especially when unnecessary, offends Drown’s internal code, and though he hides it well, it is one of the few things that can provoke genuine anger in him.

Note: Drown exists in a constant state of tension: a strong man choosing restraint, a loyal brother hiding dissent, and a lover forced to deny the one thing that gives his life meaning—all while standing inches from a man who would destroy him without hesitation if the truth ever surfaced.
