This one has some digital tweaks to it ...well, actually quite a few. :P
IRL, this drawing is not quite so tall. I thought, after looking, that the shop signs were too low; I'd forgotten how high up these are IRL, so I had to raise the store fronts digitally.
I also figured I may as well color it that way, so, yeah... :p
Anyway, seems Gene and Mimi are at the mall. Let's see what's going on...
GENE: "Huh. Another shoe store is going out of business. I wonder why they never stay around very long"
Really, Gene---that's all you have? We couldn't even get two panels of material from this. :P
The 'Bananaz' store comes courtesy of Miss Ice Cream. :3
I guess nothing eventful is happening at the mall (likely a good thing given current events). ...Oh? Oh! Now that's interesting: seems that random fox boy has a popple in his backpack. Have the popples found their way into the world of Gene and Tasli? This cannot be good (we'll have to wait and see what develops).
Yeah, so one reason (among several) why I've not drawn much lately is ...I've (re-)discovered DiC's 'The Popples' animated series (1986-1987).
Seriously: I want to bake each and every one of them in a pop-pie and eat it all by myself! I want it to drip! I want it all over my face! I wanna gather the crumbs and make popovers! D:
...All right, so maybe I don't like the popples THAT much, but they have consumed all my free time (I've seen every one of DiC's episodes in addition to about nine or ten books on record/cassette that've been uploaded to YT).
Goodwill/eBay are about the only places one can buy a popple now, so it's fitting that the former was given an important role in the pilot. ^^
Also, if the popple puppets remind you of 'Gremlins', there's a reason for that (popples are also related to the care bears, but that's for another day). ^_^
Also, yes, I've made some popple practice sketches (that'll never properly upload---the ACO isn't good enough and the rotation is just notes for how to draw popples in quickie format): https://sta.sh/01x5lslxd55
Finally, yes, I've bid on a popple plush (I'll show it if I win) and have been looking for Popples pencils ...no dice yet (but they do exist). :P
And before it's brought up: No. I hate, with a fiery passionate hate, the 2015 Netflix bastardization of the popples. The Netflix series is NOT ALLOWED in my home in any way---I won't even bear discussion of it here! D: I mean it! I'm an Aspie who's presently hyperfocused on a new obsession (a temporary one, albeit)---regard that as a warning! lol. ^^
Popples... Uh, I mean, pencil. ^^
The featured pencil has paw prints on it. That's all there is to say (don't worry, I'll get to featuring high-value pencils soon---I just got a new batch, so it's only a matter of time). :3
All kinds of stores & malls are just going out of business these days. Why? Because online shopping. It has largely taken over. Personally, I've always loved the excitement & nostalgia of just going to a physical place to buy things. But, online is more convenient and easier I guess.
Cute job by the way like always. It's always a pleasure to see Gene on my screen :3

Automobiles did not eliminate railroad trains. For one things, trains can carry far more cargo and far heavier at that.
As for stores, things like fresh food, clothing, and furniture people prefer to see in person before they purchase it, namely to see if said items are of the right look or quality. You don't want to buy something simply from a picture and find the picture doesn't match your expectations.

No, they didn't. I know lmao. I was just making a point. But yeah I agree with you on that though, as I'd also rather not buy something from just a picture myself either. I'm old school & I'd rather view what I'm going to buy in person. But these days a lot more people just tend to do more online shopping. Which phases out a lot of stores these days. Which is disappointing lol

I know what you mean Gene. I mean, look at all these kids these days walking around all barefoot and stuff, just a step away from stepping on something sharp and hurting themselves. Something needs to be done to keep all those shoe stores alive so all the kids can have shoes! ;3
I love the joke here, made me giggle a little. I think most people have been predisposed that if a character has feral feet, they should go barefoot while those characters that have humanoid feet should have shoes. The shoes that most artists use for feral feet look okay, but it just seems wrong... just like real-life shoes for dogs lol.
I know what you mean Gene. I mean, look at all these kids these days walking around all barefoot and
Animal characters generally look better without shoes. At the very least, if they're gonna wear shoes, then they need other clothes, too, to avoid looking (well) oddly 'naked'---think the cast of PB&J Otter (these characters wear shoes and only shoes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC4DFZbOChk
Absolutely! D: lol I'm glad you like. :3 Animal characters generally look better without shoes. At
We could only wish that that would be a problem with your pics. Your characters have so much clothing on that you might as well equate them to hoomans lol.
A good example of weird clothing in cartoons is with the ducks from Ducktales or other shows with bottomless characters: bottomless and a shirt... okay; take the shirt off... better have something around that waist like a towel or a bathing suit. Probably just the US trying to "protect" the children from nudity. I mean look at some of the cartoons in Canada and overseas... anatomically correct characters when it calls for it and clothing that makes sense.
I guess this is just me piping my grievances. I'm all about that realism: clothing and anatomical correctness. Oh well... gotta protect the children where it counts. :3

My 'human' character (Timmy) is completely naked. ^^
I'd do bottomless more often, save I made the mistake of making NSFW art, so... Gene/Tasli need bottoms. ^^ Some of my girl OCs don't wear bottoms, but ...that'd take a wall of text to explain. ^^
Wasn't Donald Duck banned in some country for not wearing pants?

Huh... forgot about good ol' Timmy. How's he been? :3
Yeah, I can understand your stance on the whole bottomless vs bottoms thing. If we as a society could just get over the whole "if you can see people without bottoms it's basically inappropriate" then we could stop calling nudity an adult thing. It should not be the body part that makes something adult, but what you do with it.
There are a lot of examples elsewhere where nudity is common and natural and the sooner we get it out of tabooness, the better... of course, it's never going to happen, it's just going to be a pipedream.
Girls going bottomless can make more sense to work overall versus boys as while the concept may be weird in nature, there really isn't that much you need to hide/not show versus the male anatomy.
I do recall Donald Duck being banned in countries as well. It could be his semi-nudeness... but also remember some of the cartoons he's been depicted in... and most being commissioned by the US Military.
Huh... forgot about good ol' Timmy. How's he been? :3 Yeah, I can understand your stance on the who
I like casual nudity, but it would take longer than you or I have left on this earth to make it acceptable in first-world society.
Snopes says the claim was false: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/fowled-out/ but many people believed it, which means at least some of those who believed the legend agreed with the supposed ban (because, obviously, it wasn't too ridiculous for them). ^^
I should draw Timmy again. ^^ I like casual nudity, but it would take longer than you or I have lef
I can believe that with Sonic. I mean, who in their right mind would not wear shoes going 100mph? And did I hear somewhere (or not, I don't really remember that much) that it's Sonic's shoes that make him go that fast?
Also, if you put at least "one" article of clothing on a character, you can argue (although not a good argument) that the character isn't officially nude in the generic sense.
But of course, when it comes to these types of things, wearing something on your feet really is the only article of clothing you need to worry about most of the time (especially if you are a furry/anthro). I mean, that's the only part of the body that really makes contact with something that could hurt you.
I remember going to a friend's house when I was really young and they allowed their young toddler to roam around the house with nothing on but his socks. "To protect his feet from injury and germs" they would state.

I've learned not to believe "fact checkers", as they are no more reliable than anyone else. Disney was banned in Europe during World War Two for the obvious reasons, so Disney had to concentrate on making entertainment strictly for domestic consumption. I did read that Disneyland made money for to company when its movie section was having problems.
As for animals not wearing clothes, well, real animals don't wear clothes, and note that in the very old cartoons animals wore little to no clothing apart from decorative or identification purposes. Note that Donald Duck originally lived on a houseboat and his sailor suit was suited to his lifestyle, as Carl Barks himself pointed out.

Won't you look at that out there. Everyone wants to go barefoot. No wonder I'm going out of business...I should have listened to my Uncle Louie and went into business selling video games.

Also can't wait to see what new pencils you have to show us! :D
As a side I like drawing my characters with shoes sometimes but then again they're more anthro then actual cartoon or feral so they have KINDA human like feet...sometimes! :D (well those that don't have huge sharp claws or primate like handfeet!) :D

It's the same thing that should be happening to the shirt, shorts and dress shops too! But.. it looks like there are some confused little animal critters that don't know fur is the only clothing they need! Just ask frisky and Bearbette, they know the proper way to dress! ^^

I adore chucklewood! Frisky and Bearbette are horribly neglected, though is probably because the show is quite old and was hard to find even back then.
Just wait till frisky and bearbette visit the little group and their "natural" look rubs off on all the others. Mimi is like, I'm done wearing clothes Gene! Frisky is right! Clothes are hot and itchy and we have fur! Time to go nude! I mean.. "natural" and causes all sorts of silly critter antics to happen ^^

Some furs (who also seem to like Square One TV) have uploaded a lot of Chucklewood stuff to YouTube.
Timmy has met Frisky (in a sketch dump that may or may not be deleted), and I had an idea for Buttons and Rusty x Gene and Tasli (but it was a weird, self-deprecating thing---I write MANY more comics that I actually draw). ^^

Having lots of ideas is a good thing! And is no worries about the show, decades ago I found the whole series in a dvd set. It's hard to find now, but back then was only six dollars! Is how I found out there were so many more stories with frisky and bearbette than the two short specials I had seen. But is cool that someone is putting them on youtube so others can find too.
I tend to feel my ideas are pretty lighthearted and whimsical. Obviously buttons and rusty would never convince Mimi to do anything, they are boys! But frisky being a girl.. well.. that would no doubt make her and the other girls think! A silly joke would be that all girls' fur covers them up well, and they all look fine, can't see anything! But it doesn't work so well for boys.. much to the delight of all the girls. *laughs*
And hey! With popples showing up, the water pet, they too wear nothing! But hey! they aren't nude, they are "au naturel" a much more sophisticated and cute thing for a critter to be!
