One day, all my characters were contacted by scientists doing experiments on how different species handle drowning. With a reward too big for them to turn down, each one willingly let themselves drown in order, though most of them certainly didn't enjoy themselves. They were all revived afterwards, of course. Below are the findings from the experiment.
Blubby (Western dragon): He can certainly hold his breath a long time, but he obviously needs air eventually. As he gets near his limit, his bubbles start getting bigger from him beginning to lose control over their size. He drowns for a comparatively very short time, about 3 minutes, as the vast majority of his breath holding ability comes from having a huge amount of air in him. Even while drowning, bubbles pour out from him, filling the enormous internal space of his lungs.
Sni-tii (Unknown snake): She enjoys holding her breath, but there's still a point where it stops being fun for her, when she's got just a few minutes left. With such a long breath hold, maybe she's got a bit of sea snake in her?
Cirrus (Eastern dragon): Conversely to Sni-tii, he enjoys being waterlogged. While he still panicked early on in drowning, once he was calmly breathing he kept a dopey, sleepy smile on his face even once he'd passed out. He handled drowning better than any other, staying conscious for far longer than anyone else.
Saw that a friend of mine had done stuff like this, and felt like doing it myself! Threw in the scientific setting for a different friend.
