Staying with a friend the night before Christmas, Blubby was offered a challenge, to let himself be locked in a tank of water until the 25th came. He agreed to it, and at 6:05 PM, he took in as much air as he could hold before the tank's lid was closed and locked.

Hours passed... At first, Blubby had been able to nap in the tank as he waited for midnight, but the urge to breathe eventually made that impossible and woke him up. By now, his friend had gone to bed, so he was alone, with no possible way to back out of the challenge. Not that he'd want to, he was still enjoying himself.

Until he'd been holding his breath for 5 hours. At this point, his lungs were burning, and he'd spurt out bubbles every now and then as he occasionally whined from strain. For what it was worth, he'd breathe that air back in every few minutes, but it was helping less and less... Now, 6 minutes away from the goal, the dragon is beginning to close in on inhaling water, large bubbles constantly trickling away despite his efforts to keep them in while he desperately shivers. He'll almost certainly reach that goal... Hopefully his friend remembered to set an alarm to come help him.

squirtlerocks07 and I did an RP based on this.

S: It's Christmas eve night, and blubby decided to spend the holidays with a good friend of his he's known for a bit, a typhlosion, as blubby knocked on the door, the typhlosion goes over and opens the door, and when he sees his friend there, he smiles happily and warmly
"Hey Blubby! So glad you could come and spend the holidays with me! It makes me happy that I won't be alone, not even on Christmas!"

L: Blubby wags his tail as he sees his typhlosion friend. "Yep, figured I'd come by for this time! Can't just NOT be with friends on Christmas, right?"

S: "Oh, definitely...well come on in, make yourself at home buddy!" the typhlosion moves out of the way so blubby can come inside

L: Blubby heads into the typhlosion's home. "So, any special plans for tonight, or are you just waiting for it to be Christmas?"

S: the typhlosion closes the door before speaking

"Well, I don't have anything too major planned, I was gonna go see my parents maybe some time on Christmas day, but other then that not really, oh! I wanted to show you something that I got, it's kind of strange, but it's cool!" the typhlosion then leads blubby to a rectangular empty tank, with a special lock attached to it
"Someone just randomly gifted this to me a few hours ago, and I think it's some kind of water escape tank or something, looks pretty interesting huh?"

L: "Oh, neat!" Blubby walks around the outside of the tank, looking it over. "I've never really understood why people enjoy showing off escaping from things like this... Seems kind of dangerous."

S: the typhlosion then smirks a bit
"Dangerous huh? Well, with your impressive lungs I think I smell a dare" the typhlosion giggles mischievously, rubbing his paws together like some mad scientist
"Hey blubby, I dare you to stay in that water filled escape tank until Christmas day tomorrow!"

L: Blubby's eyes go wide. He looks at the tank, then a nearby clock... Then back to the typhlosion with a determined expression. "...Let's do this. I can take it."

S: "Haha! I knew you couldn't back down from a challenge!" the typhlosion then opens the tank and gestures for blubby to get inside
"As soon as you get in here, water will automatically starting filling the tank, then I'll set the lock to activate and release you at 12am on Christmas day, it's currently 6pm, so this should really push you!" the typhlosion never stops his mischievous smile

L: "This'll really bring me to my limit, yeah..." Blubby hops into the tank, raising his head high enough to still be able to breathe. "Set an alarm of your own just in case, okay? I don't want to be stuck in here if it doesn't open..."

S: "Heh, sure buddy I will, here we go" the typhlosion then sets the lock to open the tank at 12am, then he closes the tank up, and almost instantly water began to enter the tank rather quickly
"Good luck!"

L: "O-okay, here we go..." Blubby starts taking in a huge breath, getting ready to hold it for the absolute longest he can.

S: the tank then slowly starts to fill the way to the top, with blubby holding his breath tight as it goes to the top, the typhlosion looks at blubby from the outside
"Alright, I know this probably gonna take a while, so I'm go get something to eat and I'll check on you again later ok?"

L: Blubby nods, and lays down to relax and save his energy. Little bubbles trickle from his nostrils every now and then despite his focus on holding his breath.

S: the typhlosion nods back, before he walks off into the kitchen to make something to eat

serveal hours go by, it's now 9pm, the typhlosion had eaten and watched some TV in the process, now he walks into the living room to check on blubby, yawning a little because he's tired

"Hey my friend, how's it going? Hanging in there?"

L: Blubby had been napping to pass the time while he could, but wakes up when the typhlosion returns. His horns are halfway blue, and there's about half an inch of exhaled air above him, but he nods to the typhlosion, still calm for now.

S: "Good, seems like your still ok...now I'm exhausted...I'm gonna go to bed, but I promise I'll come back at midnight to release you, I have my alarm set, so just keep going, good night buddy" with a playful smirk, the typhlosion goes upstairs to his bedroom to sleep, trusting that blubby will be ok

L: Knowing he's now in this until it's done, Blubby gets nervous as he thinks about what'll be coming... He lays fully down again, this time putting a paw over his nostrils to help keep his air in.

S: a few hours slowly pass by... it was now 11:54pm, just 6 minutes until it was over, of course the typhlosion was still fast asleep

L: Blubby, meanwhile, is far less calm. By now his face is purple and he has both front paws holding his muzzle shut, and he's shivering all over as big bubbles escape him anyway. He stares at the clock, whimpering at how long it's taking to be midnight.

S: at 11:58pm, the typhlosion woke up to his alarm, he set it for a few minutes early, and so he walks downstairs, turns on the light, and his mouth drops open when he sees blubby, but he gives a mischievous giggle afterwards

"Wow blubby, your quite resilient... it looks like you only have 2 minutes to go, just hang in there a bit longer!"

L: Blubby looks over at the typhlosion with desperation in his eyes, seemingly regretting having chosen to go through this. He stands a bit to carefully breathe in his lost air, even though it doesn't seem to help.

S: the typhlosion giggles a little, but does feel a little bad for him deep down, thankfully...12am finally hits, and the tank finally unlocks! Seeing this, the typhlosion immediately opens the tank to let blubby out

L: As the tank starts opening, Blubby bolts up and shoves the lid completely open as he takes a huge gasp for several seconds! Then, he exhales all his used air before gasping again, the blue on his horns receding back down them.

S: the typhlosion's eyes go wide as blubby takes such huge gasps

"Phew, just in the nick of time! Good job blubby! I'm quite impressed! I actually didn't think you were gonna make it!"

L: Blubby fairly quickly catches his breath, before he responds. "I was starting to worry about that too... Good thing I can still hold my breath 6 hours like always!"

S: "Yep! Good job! It was kind of entertaining watching you struggle I won't lie tho" the typhlosion chuckles before giving blubby a playful pat on the back

L: Blubby smiles and climbs out of the tank. "I had a lot of time to think in there, and I got an idea... What was your breath holding record again?"

S: "Huh? That's certainly a weird question, you and I both know I'm bad at that stuff when it comes to water, but I did do a dry breath holding once and got up to 5 minutes shockingly... that was a few months ago tho and i havent done one since...why do you ask?"

L: "Well..." Blubby gets a similar look to when the typhlosion had first dared him to get into the tank. "I dare you to let me lock you in that tank for 5 minutes!"

S: the typhlosion gasps in shock, not seeing this coming
"What?!?! Oh....no...I didn't see this coming! Need I remind you I'm a fire type! Water doesn't sit will with me yknow!"

L: "Ah, it's not like touching water hurts you! And if anything goes wrong, I'm right here to get you back out, you don't have to worry."

S: "Oh jeez... you know I don't usually back out of a dare, but this one...I'm not too sure..." the typhlosion laughs nervously

L: "Come on, I barely even hesitated with mine! Plus, mine took ages, but this'll be done pretty quick!"

S: "Ugh, I know that...but still...I don't know! For the first time, i actually feel...scared...worried even... did I really just say that??? Jeez... I'm a mess"

it looks like the typhlosion might need something to trigger him if he's gonna do this

L: Blubby thinks for a moment. "You know, the tank unlocked right when it was supposed to... Do you want me to get in with you for this? I don't mind, 5 minutes is nothing for me."

S: "After you just had to do a 6 hour long breath hold? No I couldn't possibly do that to you, besides there's not a lot of room in there...i don't think we would both fit in there"

L: "Good point, yeah, the tank's pretty small... Well, I'll stay next to you on the outside of it at least, I think that'll still help."

S: "Ugh...I'm gonna hate every minute of this, this is instant karma, alright let's do this"
regrettably, the typhlosion then gets into the tank, hoping this won't be too bad

L: Blubby sits next to the tank. "Alright, do some deep breathing to get ready. I'll set up the timer in the meantime."

S: "Deep breathing...o-ok, I'll try" the typhlosion then starts to breathe deeply, hoping this would help out, but deep down he was still really scared

L: During that time, Blubby sets the tank's timer for 5 minutes. "Ready on my end. You doing okay?"

S: "I-i don't know, i-i think I'm fine for now, but that's because there's no water in here yet..."

L: "Yeah, I get the feeling you're going to panic as soon as it starts filling... There really isn't any other way to do this than to just do it, though."

S: "Ughhh... I know I'm gonna start panicking but...I'm gonna try and compose myself...so let's get this over with"

L: "Okay, hopefully it'll go okay... Watch your head, putting the lid down in 3, 2, 1..." Blubby starts lowering the tank's lid.

S: the typhlosion puts his head down as the lid closes, and within seconds the water starts to fill the tank once again, causing the typhlosion to immediately jump as it soaked into his fur and panic as he pounds on the glass a bit
"Ok ok! That's enough already! I don't like this!"

L: "You JUST started! But okay, hang on!" Blubby quickly resets the timer so the tank unlocks, and he pulls the lid back up.

S: the typhlosion immediately jumps out of the tank as the water drains, he shakes the water that was on his fur away
"I lost control of myself, I got too spooked! I tried to do it! Truly! I didn't even go underwater yet and I was that freaked out!"

L: "Yeah, this really won't be easy... You don't HAVE to do this if you don't want to, I'd be fine with that."

S: the typhlosion thinks for a bit, while it would be nice to not do this, he's never ever backed out of a dare no matter how intense it was, he's a tough pokemon after all, so with a long sigh he said

"Nope, I've never back out of a single dare in my whole life, and I don't think I wanna stop my winning streak, as much as I don't wanna, I have to try this again!"

L: "Then we'll keep trying until you can pull this off! Hopefully it's only going to be taking one more try..."

S: "Y-yeah, ugh...alright alright I'm gonna try this again! And this time I won't get scared! No matter what!" the typhlosion gives a determined expression before climbing back into the tank slowly

L: "Okay, get ready again!" Blubby sets the timer to 5 minutes again, waiting for the typhlosion.

S: "I am not scared!" the typhlosion tries to act determined, taking in deep breathes again to prepare himself, eventually he turns to blubby
"Ok, I'm ready...for real this time" he then ducks his head town in the tank so blubby can close it

L: "Alright, let's do this!" Blubby closes the tank's lid, and the tank begins filling with water again.

S: the typhlosion yelps again as the tank starts to fill with water, but this time he remains composed, trying to keep calm as the tank's airspace gets lower and lower, the water fills pretty fast so it's already almost at the top...the typhlosion definitely has fear in their eyes as he knows he's gotta start holding his breath soon

L: "Just try to stay calm, you're going to be fine..." Blubby sits next to the tank, watching the typhlosion.

S: eventually, the water reaches the top, the typhlosion took a final deep breath and held it in tightly before the water did reach the top, his cheeks puffing up as he moves his paw to cover his mouth, whining out bubbles as the 5 minute timer starts

L: "That's it, keep your mouth covered to help keep your air in... Maybe hold your nose as well, that'll help too."

S: listening to what blubby was saying, the typhlosion moves his paw just a bit to pinch his nose shut as well, it was definitely a lot harder for him to hold his breath underwater then on dryland, his face already flushing red only a minute into this, and he's still releasing tiny bubbles too, by now he moves to sit down in the tank, whimpering a lot

L: "Now we just have to wait... You did this once before, I'm sure you can do it again. Don't give up!"

S: the typhlosion looks at blubby, trying to calm himself down as the time slowly ticks by, keeping his mouth and nose shut as his face flushes fully red

L: "Hang in there, it's not a whole lot longer now. You've got this!"

S: the typhlosion really is scared, for the first time in years this is the first time he's legitimately scared, now 3 and a half minutes in, his face turns slightly blue now, even tho he's covering everything bubbles continue to escape him

L: "I wish I could do more, but you were right that I shouldn't join you, my lungs are still kind of sore... Just a minute and a half left, though!"

S: deep down, the typhlosion wished he had someone in the tank to keep him company, but then again he doesn't wanna get cramped, so he just continues on

now less then 30 seconds left, the typhlosion's face is fully blue, he's getting closer and closer to inhaling water, looking at blubby with wide fearful eyes, hoping he doesn't inhale the water as constant bubbles escape him

L: "You're nearly there, you can do this!" Blubby gets ready to open the tank just in case something ends up going wrong.

S: the typhlosion gurgles painfully, but thankfully he's just barely able to make it, the tank unlocks!

L: "You did it!" Blubby quickly opens up the tank's lid. "Hurry and breathe!"

S: the typhlosion immediately sees the surface and jumps up, out of the tank and gasps very heavily for air
"Hah....hah....hah....what?! I-i did it!?"

L: "Yep, you made it! And I think you might've been able to go longer too, but that's definitely enough for right now."

S: the typhlosion continues to catch his breath, panting heavily

"Hah....hah...wow, I didn't think...I could do that! But I don't think I'm ever going underwater again after that!"

L: "We'll at least take a break from that... I don't know about you, but I'm ready to get to bed, that 6 hour hold really took it out of me even with a nap partway through. Plus, it's past midnight right now..."

S: "Oh trust me, I'm just as exhausted if not more exhausted then you, let's head to sleep then, then we can open some gifts later, I have something for you"

L: "Ooh, I'm excited to see what it is!" After getting himself dried off, Blubby heads to the typhlosion's room.

S: the typhlosion gets dried off too, he hops into bed and pats a space besides him for blubby

"I think you'll like it! Very much so!"

L: Blubby hops up onto the typhlosion's bed and lays down next to them. "Alright, hopefully I can get to sleep fairly soon... Goodnight!"

S: "Goodnight my friend!"

and so, exhausted as they were they fell asleep, looking forward to opening gifts the next day and hanging out more, but maybe not underwater...
