Felt like starting up a new art project: "Screenshots" of a fake game! I intend to do at least one for every level of it, but probably not all in a row, I'll pick away at this every now and then. It features my OCs, but keep in mind that none of this is canon to them.
As Nasir studies in his tower, a message comes in - a nearby village has a strange monster stalking the streets every night, and the mayor wants his help in dealing with whatever it is. Somewhat begrudgingly, he heads out to go help, finding that the monster is somehow made of a dark energy... And soon, he learns that the Great Beasts, the only ones that might know what's happening, have been corrupted by the same energy. At that point, he sets out to restore every one of them.
This game is a 2D platformer, with combat based on ranged magic attacks, where the player can move pretty much freely while firing. Each level is roughly 5 minutes long, and most of them have a slight health upgrade hidden somewhere in them.
Most bosses are referred to as "Great Beasts". Once a level with a boss has been cleared, whether the boss itself has been beaten or not, the player can skip straight to the boss. Once the boss has been beaten, the player can talk to them instead (and find out their name), with a "spar" option that allows for fighting them again. The Great Beast appears on the map once they're beaten.
The circles on the map symbolize levels or areas, and the colors mean different things: White means that it's a safe zone instead of a proper level, green means it's a level that's been fully cleared, blue means the level has been finished but there's still something to find in it, and red means it hasn't been finished yet. Levels don't appear until they can be entered. The dead-end ones that split off from the main path are secret levels, unlocked via something in the level they're connected to.
The last area, above the west tower, only appears after clearing every secret level and beating the final boss. Getting through it gives a better ending.
Level list:
Nasir's tower (Safe zone. Upon starting a new game, the player starts out already here) The old road Brittlelight (Starts out as a very short level, becomes a safe zone after)

This whole project was inspired by Stargazing-Bird and their dedication to making fake screenshots like this.
