Yes, this art is back. A watcher noted an error in the writing, so I corrected it (or, at least, replaced it with a new error) and colored the art (yes, I got more pencils for coloring, though I still need to go out and buy a new lavender pencil for Gene).

Anyway...

Seems Tasli sees someone he recognizes walking by. Let's see what happens...

TASLI: "Check it out! It's that Egyptian boy from my school. I bet if we make friends he'll let us play in his pyramid!"

MUBBA: "Oh, I'd like to play mummy, but I'd need to practice my accent"

/Tasli and Mubba jump over the wall they were hiding behind and approach the passer-by/

TASLI (cheerful): "Hi! I'm Tasli! You and I go to the same school. Wanna be friends?"

JAMIE (cheerful): "Sure would! My name's Jamie!"

TASLI (incredulous): "'Jamie'?"

JAMIE (unsure): "Yeah? Something wrong?"

TASLI (disappointed): "No, I just thought you'd have a cool name like Thutmose, Khufu, Amenhotep---"

MUBBA (interrupting; excited): "Or Nefertiti!"

/Jamie is nonplussed/

TASLI (matter-of-fact): "Let me introduce you to Mubba---he grows on you after a while"

Oh my! O:

Is it just me or does Mubba seem a bit confused (at least, more so than usual)?

There's a reason I wrote these jokes as they are. It was done in part as a subtle spite against FA for deleting my last 'Pride' cartoon, lampooning 'ostrich-sexual': an 'orientation' I made up on the spot (as many of the neo-sexualties seem to be), as well for Tasli's intentional 'misgendering' of an OC I also made up specifically for the cartoon (my characters are whatever sex/gender I claim them to be or not to be---just sayin').

I doubt FA can delete this one under any reasonable grounds. ;)

Anyway...

Another watcher asked if Jamie is really Egyptian or if Tasli just presumed it.
Jamie is, in fact, Egyptian. Why? Because I say so, but also I have a few pencils that refer to Egypt/Egyptology---pencils that wouldn't make sense to feature if the character was anything else (granted none of said pencils were made in Egypt lol). ^^

Some may ask if we'll see Jamie again. The answer is yes, unless something happens/the Lord calls me home. I have at least two other Jamie stories in mind, which will include Gene and Mimi. :3

Pencil...

The featured pencil is the least of the pencils mentioned above (I have one REALLY nice one I want to get to---a true grail find!), but this one's still kinda cool. :3
Today's pencil is the 'Glo-Tone' from Pyramid Pencil Co (PPC).
PPC was bought by Shelbyville Pencil Co (SPC) in 1953.
Given the featured pencil has a metal tip, its likely date of manufacture would be after WWII, but (obv.) before its maker was purchased by SPC.

This pencil writes or colors in blue. It's not technically part of my main collection (because it's both sharpened and not particularly scarce ...though good luck finding a set of these), so after scanning it, I misplaced it as fast as I could. :P
I tried looking for it so I could color something in the cartoon with it (to show the color) but it has in fact disappeared. :P

I do like your new character, hope he shows up again.
And ya Mubba DOES grow on you, kinda like a fungus, but we love him anyway. :D

That is a cool looking pencil. And as usual I'm very curious as to the one you're hoping to get.
I'm always interested in the ones you think are "grail finds"! :D

Also you didn't misplace it,  you just put it in a safe place that even YOU don't know about!
I do it alla time!! :D

Someone else thought similarly. lol

Hoping to get? I already have it! lol I don't feature pencils not in my possession. ^_^

That may very well be.

This is probably vaguely racist, but, we know the cubs mean no harm.

Is this a proper return of Chippie's Art, or just a brief respite?
IceAgeChippies

You know, I was told long ago that because Mubba is brown Tasli shouldn't tease him (despite it being clear Tasli's resentment comes from Mubba tattle-telling on he and Gene---fur color had nothing to do with anything).

My response was to double down on Tasli's ribbing. Where's the racism here, anyway? So the cubs think Jamie has a pyramid---so racist! D: If anything that's a stereotype or cartoon cliche---racism is hating someone because of their race (I've never demonstrated that with my OCs or IRL), not presuming a cartoon jackal from Egypt may have a pyramid.

Anyway, it's the Brits who would be offended here (reread and reconsider what Mubba thinks a mummy is---he's conflating two ideas). ^_^

In cartoons, you have to expect certain stereotypes: the tropical islands are ALWAYS inhabited by tribal people who will sacrifice you in their volcanoes; the outback is populated by headhunters; Indians wear feathers, etc (the third thing we know Gene and Co believe). Egyptians would have pyramids and/or a mummy in their closets. ^_^

I'm Scotch-Irish. If I made a comic with Scotch-Irish characters, you're damn right it'd have fighting and drinking in it---it'd feel wrong to do it otherwise (and the same wouldn't be racist from my perspective if a non-Scot/Irishman made such a comic)! XD
Here's something else: I live in the American South---my wolf characters live in a trailer, wear tank tops and grow butter beans. No one's calling that racist or stereotypical (though I'd freely give you the latter---bite me!).

I just felt like drawing something (ie I'm feeling guilty for not uploading stuff ...and, tbqh, I don't care much for my mother's art). :P

Indeed, I was thinking that myself, just because you’re Egyptian doesn’t mean you have a pyramid, That’s assuming a stereotype

Both Tasli and Mubba had their perceptions undone without Jamie having to say much of anything. ^_^

FUN FACT: The Mau is the oldest known breed of cat, as well as the egyptian word for puss. It's so old it was named after a sound.

Given the new age obsession with pyramids, it's possible Jamie DOES have one, a few inches high, used for purifying energy or soemthing.

Onomatopoeia! D:

I like the concept of pyramids---it's like a suitcase you can pack full of stuff to take into the afterworld. Esp. useful if you have nasty relatives you don't want to leave your estate to. ^_^

LOL - Why does Mubba uttering "Nefertiti" sound like an innuendo?

... No Foxy! NO! *slaps*

Ahem, next let them meet a dutch boy and have them babble about windmills. Now what kind of obscure and hilariously inappropriate name would Mubba conjure from that otherwise inpenatrable mind of his? Dick, Jantje (~Johny) and Koen (pronounced Coon) are kind of suggestive in the wrong context... hmmm
IceAgeChippies

Originally he said 'Cleopatra', but a watcher didn't like it.

There was a Nascar driver named Dick Trickle. ^^

I don't know which is funnier, you giving a crap about something so trivial or Mubba suggesting Cleopatra. He could have said Tutankhamun too which would've been funny too. XP - I vaguely recall some decaying remains of some farao having been dug up and some newspaper cartoon joking about his parents sneeze being mistaken for his intended name.

Well, "de Cock" is the name of a fictional detective around here. Similar names are actual surnames around here.;-)

IceAgeChippies
3 months, 3 weeks ago
Well, it mattered because Cleopatra wasn't from Egypt. That was MY mistake, thinking Cleopatra was from Egypt.

*Most people know or at least have some vague knowledge of who Cleopatra was. Nefertiti, on the other hand, may require a Google search. If the reader has to do a search in the middle of reading the comic, the humor I envisioned fails :P

*with the exclusion of myself, incongruously

The cubs made presumptions about Jamie, one being that he would have an exotic name. This was proven wrong once Jamie said "My Name's Jamie" (a very un-Egyptian name). Mubba's suggestion of 'Cleopata/Nefertiti' further emphasizes the cubs' ignorance because Jamie is a boy and 'Cleopatra/Nefertiti' are names for girls (Mubba also didn't know what a Mummy was, at least not entirely).
Of course, in the end, it was Mubba who felt a little sheepish for his thinking, whereas Tasli (who's every bit as guilty) ignores his contribution by placing it all on Mubba (I'm sure Jamie caught that, hence his knowing pose in the last panel).

That's where most of the humor is here, but (again) if the reader also didn't know the facts, then the comic fails. Hence, this comic ...is a fail, like most of my art/writing. I need to start getting used to it.

Either way, whether Jamie has a pyramid ...well, the comic doesn't specify, but perhaps time will tell. :3

And, of course, there is a part II to the humor here, hence my comment in the description about FA.

Technically, very very technically, Jamie was misgendered here, and Mubba unintentionally misgendered himself.

'Mummy', in the English sense, is a word for 'mom/mother' (a female role). Mubba is a boy.
Cleopatra/Nefertiti are female names; Jamie is a boy.

The mistakes made by the cubs were mistakes indeed. The writer (me) however knew exactly what he was doing (again, I don't like that my 'Pride' comic was taken down for misgendering---no one was truly misgendered in that comic, but whatever). ;)

No. And don't get me wrong---IB has been very good to me, and I don't want to misrepresent or be uncharitable to it. Hell, IB has allowed my Timmy art for almost a decade now without issue.

That said...

There is a fine line one has to mind. Like, I'm a Christian, and am allowed to say so here. I can make comics saying Jesus is the way and so forth. That certainly isn't a leftist perspective, yet I could do it. However, if I were to make a cartoon quoting certain passages from the book of Romans, well... that probably wouldn't fly. ^^

It's that kinda thing.

I can say I'm a conservative, which implies I'm not in support of certain ideologies, but I cannot elaborate on any of that without being placed on a watch list---at least I don't feel as though I could.

Don't make me laugh! XP - Ever heard of RHJunior? He was far more extreme than you ever were (as far as I know.) - If there is something you want to share or quote to someone, I am usually at least curious and in for a laugh. I usually speak my mind too when I don't agree as well. XP

Chippy, you need to ask yourself whom you're truly drawing these comics for and what you want to achieve. Take solace in the fact some artists only get recognition once they've moved on! XP - Perhaps Jamie has a Lego pyramid! XP

Cleopatra was not a native Egyptian, but from Macedonia (north of Greece).  Though she did know the Egyptian language.  Ultimately Augustus Caesar would defeat her in war an depose her.
