Seems Gene and Mubba are collecting bottles and cans to recycle for money. Let's see what happens...

MUBBA (looking down at a discarded paper cup): "Aw! This one's paper---we can't deposit it for a return!"

GENE (ta-dah): "Yeah, it's just a paper cup, likely came from the food court of this shopping center"

GENE (observing an approaching sanitation vehicle): "...And here comes a broom truck to take it away!"

MUBBA (excited): "Oh boy!  I love street sweepers! I'm gonna watch!"

/the truck passes by, vacuuming the cup/

MUBBA (waving): "Goodbye, mall cup! We'll never forget you!"

/the cubs watch the truck vanish out of sight/

GENE (to reader): "Everything ends, and now so has this comic!"

...So, "mall cup" is a term I *recently heard in reference to those **paper soda fountain cups one often gets from fast-food places. The term amused my autism, so I made this comic. :P

*from an episode of It's Punky Brewster ...Glomer is bae, btw (expect an ACO one of these years).

**I suppose the term could also apply to those big plastic cups

"Mall cup" lol :D

Anyway... has anyone noticed that 9 times in 10 my comics are, well ...not very funny?

That's somewhat intentional. I say 'somewhat' because being a terrible writer doesn't help, but my characters do lean naturally towards anti-humor.
Like, I set the characters up for some potential joke or action, but rarely do I let it go anywhere.
Take this cartoon for example---the whole point of it (for me) was to get a character to say 'mall cup'. The bonus here was I got to reinforce the idea that Mubba likes street sweepers (which is true, though it's been a very long time since I last brought them up). That's really it.

...Mall cup. ^_^

Pencil...

The featured pencil is made from recycled newsprint. You can sorta-kinda see some print bleeding through the barrel (but there's nothing on it to read ...shame because whatever was there was likely more interesting than this comic). ^^

...Mall cup (ok, I'll stop now) ^_-

I love it :)

There's something nice and wholesome about it. Just a simple happening between two friends, doesn't matter that it's not 'exciting', it's real. (And I'm always partial to a bit of fourth-wall shenanigans!)

Mall Cup, 2024-2024. Gone but not forgotten.

Yes, indeed :3 Figured it was time for a change hehe.

Plus, I've been into Blinky Bill now for over 10 years. And he's also the main star of my drawings. So, it makes sense lol

Who say family entertainment cannot be funny?  I remember a Richie Rich comic where he and his cousin Reggie are part of a small car contest, and Reggie tries to sabotage his cousin by finding a car in Richie's workshop and destroying it.  The next day Reggie is shocked to find Richie has another car and asks where he got it.  Richie replies, "Oh I was preparing it while some fathead was wrecking a dummy car I had in my workshop."  Reggie shoots back, "Who are you calling a fathead?"

But they would forget, for the mind of a cub lives in the now. Only plastic cups are unforgettable. (They leave microplastics in your brain.)

Growing up I was like Mubba when it came to garbage trucks. Went so far as following them a few blocks and watching the big truck make minced meat out of big furniture.

Sometimes it's the simplest things in life that are the most joyful. I guess that's why being an adult sucks to much... not much time for the simple things in life. Then you have old age and the fun starts all over again... kinda like a reverse bell curve.

I used to follow broom trucks. I very rarely see them these days as I live in an HOA community that does everything itself (so no city-owned sweepers here). /sigh/

Being old worries me, actually (Chippy dislikes mortality).

Most of your comics are intresting little stories than funny. I thought they’d throw it away themselves

Not enough room on the Way 2 Fast for cups that yield no return! XD

Oh really, you said they'd return a can that;s barcode is unreadable even though they won't get any money for it.

Because they care, however, the paper cup is NOT recyclable. :3

We haven't had Street Sweepers in our area for a LONG time. I miss them.

A pencil made of NEWSPRINT!? As it's actually a lead wrapped with newsprint / newspaper?
THAT'S a new one on me! So much to learn and so very VERY little time.
Do you have other pencils made out of different materials you could share? :D

I have pencils made of recycled denim, money, plastic., etc. I've featured a handful, including the (in)famous Epcon pencil.
Many pencils aren't made of wood these days. I think I even sent you at least one non-wood one (the Wopex is flexible ...try gently bending it!).

While on that, here's a non-wood pencil I found on the ground---look how flexible it is: https://sta.sh/028q2pqx9h6e

And, yes, you can sharpen it like any other pencil.

Among the most interesting non-woods I have is one with a rubbery, CLEAR barrel---and, yes, it can be sharpened, and you can see through it! :D
That said, it's not in my main collection so I'd have to dig it out. :P

Also I'd love to see that clear pencil. If you've shown it before I don't
remember it but I'd like to see it for sure. :)

"Anyway... has anyone noticed that 9 times in 10 my comics are, well ...not very funny?"  I didn't realize there was a requirement for comics to be funny.  (Funny comics are nice but, eh, who cares?)  As a matter of fact, I'm just as likely to read a non-funny comic as a funny one.  So, all I'm trying to say is, make your comics to make you happy.

Also, I'm more concerned with story over humor.  Heck, I read about 30 comics a week and about half of them aren't funny funny.  They have humor but humor is just a background character in the story.  Keep on making these and I'll keep on reading them.
