There's a difference between arguments and discussions that I feel like most people put into the same hat. Discussions are civil and arguments are just a shouting match. So I agree with you that arguments don't lead anywhere. Discussions on the other hand are nice to have as you can learn from the other side, give your knowledge away or generally discuss nice topics without them leading to arguments. We do it with our friends without realizing it. Depends which person you talk to, of course. And once it leads to a heated argument I also try to leave the conversation or change the topic. Agree to disagree fits there well.

I absolutely agree. I have friends with very different opinions to mine and I still love to discuss with them, because I get to learn points of view that I hadn't considered. But I also have friends who just tell me what I should think. Those I don't discuss with.

What if there was an coordinated effort to make "Bullsh*t Jobs" (book title) for the express purpose of wasting the time and energy of the public so that the international megacorp monopolies can profit more off the backs of other people who do the "real work?"

The times I spend 20-30 minutes writing a comment on YouTube or whatever and then at the end deleting it instead of posting it are many for this very reason. Still a waste of time perhaps, but less so than if I had actually posted it and had gotten into an argument.
