Seems the cubs have found a claw machine. Let's see what they win...
MIMI (flirtatiously): "You'll win me a bear, won't you, Gene?"
GENE (matter-of-fact): "I'll win ME a bear!"
[Gene inserts a coin and earns control of the claw]
GENE (confident): "Ley's do this!"
[the claw catches a bear, but drops it somehow]
GENE (annoyed): "Not cool! I totally had it!"
MIMI (irked): "You don't say..."
[suddenly, as of by magic, the machine shoots a bear from its dispenser]
[Mimi catches the bear as it flies past]
MIMI: "Got cha!"
MIMI (teasing Gene under his chin): "You're so magical, Gene---you must be a Jellicle cat!"
[Mimi and Gene walk away from the machine]
GENE (fading into the distance with Mimi): "It wasn't me, Mimi---the machine just did that on its own!"
MIMI: "You like me, just admit it!"
[a popple pokes its head from the machine]
POPPLE (winking, at reader): "Shhh!"
The popple recognized the threefold opportunity this scenario presented. For here he not only had the chance to thwart the insidiously *rigged claw machine, but also to annoy Gene AND give a pretty girl a prize! :D Of course, the popple did all this in secret, but that's as it should be. :3
N-E-way, I decided to do with Popples what I did with Water Pets: scan the internet for stories and posts about popples to share here. This is a selection of popple posts I found on Reddit,
"I had the white one [Puffball]. My grandpa bought me it when I was with him and grandma running an errand at a department store. I was young, maybe 4. I remember leaving the store and being able to hold it while exiting the store. A very happy memory, as my grandpa became unhealthy and died not much later and I have very few memories of him, mainly just of him buying me the popple"
"When I was five I wanted [a Popple] more than anything in the world. Then I needed neck surgery and my parents surprised me at the hospital with one for comfort. The doctors let me hold it until I was unconscious too. Actually a sweet memory."
"And when you turned 14 [the Popple pouch]'s where you hid your cigarettes"
((Shame on you for abusing your popple in such a way! And don't you know smoking causes lung cancer? Tsk, tsk! Everyone knows scarring the liver is where it's at!))
"I still have mine, it was my favourite toy growing up, we were inseperable. To the point where it would get dragged through the mud so much it would be unrecognisable, but I wouldn't part with it, so my mum would have to wait until I was asleep to put him through the washing machine. She said the hard plastic nose used to tap against the glass of the clothes dryer and she'd feel guilty, like Popple was trying to say 'let me out'. Toys were very real in our household"
"I hope my parents saved mine. I had the little yellow one and the little purple one and wore them as mittens in the winter"
((OMG! IT totally works as a mitten: https://sta.sh/011vi219mhcu I'm SO wearing my popples on my hands this winter!))
"My Potato Chip Popple was worn down within a couple of years. I took her everywhere. I made several unsuccessful and slightly unsettling attempts to draw her eyes back on; she was that shabby. I had a white and blue one that is still in good shape, but I'm not sure where it is now"
((00))
"I think I had pink or purple velcro Popples shoes when I was little"
"My dog had one of these as his "baby". He just liked to have it in his mouth, not shred it or anything. He had it his whole 12 years"
"I loved Popples... my favorite memory is when my mom bought me one and we visited my grandma immediately after. My Grandma always had a love of toys and baby dolls because she went through the Great Depression as a child and didn’t have much. My Mom saw how delighted my Grandma was by the Popple that she went out and bought one for her a few days later. That Popple was prominently displayed in her collection until she passed away. Whenever I see a Popple I always think about my Grandma"
"I had the orange one. Lol"
Hahaha! What funny stories!
Anyway,
Pencil...
The featured pencil is the 'Funny Bear'. The Pencil has 'DOKI x2' written on it. That phrase takes me to images of (what seems to be) pornographic manga or (if I don't include a space) some sort of a various-artist CD album. I have no idea. :P
I'm pretty sure the pencil is either of Japanese or (less likely) Korean origin (based on the style of its artwork), but I've no way to verify. This pencil was included in a bundle of mixed pencils I bought from an eBayer located in Cyprus (someone I've bought from several times over the years).
The pencil is cute and colorful regardless of what it may or may not be referencing. :3
Claw Machines are evil so I'm glad the Popple helped him get the bear even if it wasn't the CORRECT way. :D Also Good Luck Gene now she's gonna want one every time you pass by it. :D https://youtu.be/XLKt5dPqggY (I LOVE the girl's voice acting in this. She ABSOLUTLY NAILED it!!) :D
That's the most colorful pencil I think you've ever shown here. At least to me in recent memory. I assume it's a 2B since that's what I see at the top. Do you have any sharpened ones you can demonstrate? :)

I've never won anything from a claw machine, albeit, the number of times I've tried in my life could be counted on one's hands (possibly with fingers left over). ^^
THING! :O
It's certainly charming, but it's the only one of that pencil I have. The lot I bought it from was a one-each deal---I bought the lot because it had a 1980s M.A.S.K pencil in it (that one was sharpened lol).

I WANT to see THAT one. And any other 80's cartoon pencils you have! I LOVE that time period cause it produced arguably THE best animated cartoons afternoon tv EVER!!
M.A.S.K. as in : https://youtu.be/sf5Bi0IGAxk ?! I WANT to see THAT one. And any other 80's cartoo
That was COOL! Referencing M.A.S.K. in a Popples Cartoon. I recgonize the truck but don't remember it's name right off the bat but ya that was for sure a MASK truck! Thanks for showing that to me and also YES to a Masters of the Universe Pencil. It's relivent since the Netflix MotU was just canceled because of low viewers and because Kevin Smith (Silent Bob from "Clerks") couldn't keep his big mouth shut as usual. I always found that ironic that someone playing a character named "SILENT" Bob would be so vocal about stupid things. oh well.
Also I find it interesting that those two mechanical baseball bat pencils have the point on opposite sides of their bat design. One at the grip the other at the head. Just something that caught my eye. Anywy Thanks again and please feel free to share any other neat 80's cartoon pencils you find. :)

Popples are what happens when care bears mate with gremlins. lol
Popples like cubs and want to be useful to them, however a popple's fun always takes precedence (and often takes the form of mischief and sometimes destruction).

As Paul once said in the bible, 'I give you what I was given'.
The story and its description come from the imagination. So it is that I am tasked to give incarnation to that which I received as faithfully as possible. It was the (boy) popple's assessment that Mimi is a 'pretty girl' and so wanted her to receive the bear. :3

Gah, I hate those claw machines. Like slot machines in win rate, they are only programmed to use full force after the average dollar amount of the prizes inside plus a small profit margin has been met.
I think it's now an official running gag that if you really want to get under Gene's skin, just make it to where Mimi loves him more. They'll make a cute couple in the future... shh... just don't tell Gene. :3
