This cartoon is a (kinda) sequel to 'Salmon', in which Gene caught a fish from the river: https://inkbunny.net/s/2815717 But it seems Gene didn't stop at one. What to do with the others? Share them with friends, of course!
I mentioned here that the cubs can cook (specifically Mimi and Mubba from the main group, though we know Pinky can cook, too): https://inkbunny.net/s/2569832
Today we'll sample something from Mubba's kitchen (or, rather, from the grill at the public park)...
MUBBA (to self): "...Just right!"
MUBBA (to group): "Come and get it!"
TASLI (to Mubba): "That mini-chef's hat is ridiculous!"
MUBBA (snide): "Still kind of you to notice"
So it seems Mubba can char-grill salmon steaks :9 ...and has a very small hat :o
I imagine Mubba's using a similar one, only much cleaner. ^^
Either way, the cubs eat really well. :3
And for those who're wondering, yes: it would follow Gene is wearing his yellow bather under his shorts. :p
I guess because I'm an older person, I like the idea that my cubs go outside to play, and have, along the way, learned some practical life skills (how to fish, make a fire, cook, swim, navigate through the woods, collect scrap for pocket money, etc, etc).
Basically, my cubs would survive. ^^
And, no, 'I' can't do all those things (and not all the cubs have the same skill sets), though I know (or at least knew) some (I was a Royal Ranger a few years ...in the 1990s). ^^
Anyway, the gang does play video games, watch videos, etc., but usually at day's end when they need to be home, anyway. :3
Pencil...
The featured pencil is the 'Charcoal 728' from Conte a Paris.
From the Conte a Paris website,
"Charcoal Pencil - this gives the clean, dense finish of an intense black. Its special characteristic is that it does not break, making it easy to transport. It also blends perfectly with iron red and Sepia Pencils"
I dunno about all that, but I did use the pencil to sign this cartoon. ^^
It's a VERY rough, scratchy pencil ...but it's hard charcoal (so it's just doing what it does).
I don't seek charcoal pencils for my collection specifically---almost all the charcoals I have 'just happened', ie, I got them incidentally from buying collections of assorted pencils, while some others came from the scrap.
So, I don't have any good vintage ones: a few General's, a set of Grumbachers, a Craftint, an old Eagle 'Charco 310' (which I'd have featured here if I'd've found it) ...and of course, a few of these Contes. That's effectively it for my charcoal. ^^
I was wondering how come it didn’t slip off, why does his helmet have an antenna in the first place? If his helmet is because he’s accident prone, it seems he would crumple it when he falls

I wonder... does Mubba have other 'talents' that we haven't seen yet?
I wouldn't let Tasli anywhere close to something that chars things. No kitchen skills nothing... I'm mainly thinking about any other 'destructiveness' he could do lol.

I only learned to cook when I was around 24 yo. Possibly because I never had to learn it or had to confidence to try it for myself. I can cook a decent meal but have zero interest in anything more than the basics.

I am even older! 😝 If only I could act like it... I hope he let that bather dry first. But, who needs underwear? I guess I would die since I still can't do some of things they can... 😟

A nice little sketch with the end of summer / beginning of fall. These are actually the best times to cook outdoor because it's not blazing hot and most of the 'skeeters are gone (MOST)!
Charcoal pencils are a much easier for me to use than vine simply because they give darker darks than vine. I've used the Conte a Paris brand and they're very nice actually. And they are much better used on paper FOR charcoal / pastel paper or something with a nice tooth. I'd love to see you use one of them on charcoal paper sometime just to see you use the natural texture in your drawing. :)

Knife, Knife, dear, dear Knife ...I can barely draw---it is a sin against the art world that I even have some of these fine pencils to begin with (there are real artists out there who must get by using Ticonderogas---it's a real pity!). The pencil and the paper both would be misspent---best I adhere to my Zephyrs and typing paper. ^^

Awww :( I understand. Still, I hold on to hope that you'll accidently forget your proclamation and put pastel pencil to REAL pastel paper and grace us with a true masterpiece, even if it's only Gene with another fish in his mouth. :D

Good to see Mubba playing into Tasli's sense of humor/sarcasm lol. And not take it as a personal attack. That's something I always did when I was these kid's ages. Any joke, insult, sarcasm I always took as a serious thing. And would offend me. I'm MUCH better about having a sense of humor now. But, I wish I did back then.
Ok, Jeez......I'm starting to rant. Anyways, cute job like always hehe :3

I usually took insult---water off the duck's back ...but I recall an incident from my youth in which I let someone have it (I forget exactly how old I was ...maybe 10 or so).
I was taken to some sort of church camp meeting with my grandmother. I became bored and was allowed to walk around the lobby. There was a rack with some pamphlets sitting out, and it occurred to me to look at them. Observing me was some guy and a couple boys my age. For whatever reason, they found me greatly amusing to the point of laughing (you'd think my pants were down or something). :p
This got to me somehow. I walked over to them and had one of the boys on the floor. The fight was broken up quickly, but I asserted myself: laugh if you like, but it won't come free. :3

THESE days, that's how I handle jokes & humor. I take it lightly, and will even play into it for the fun of it sometimes lol. My sense & bounds of humor is MUCH greater and bigger now, compared to when I was younger lol. But back in the day (ESPECIALLY in middle school), I always seemed to take jokes as a serious thing or a personal attack. And I used to have a VERY short temper. Hence, why I was always bullied and such.
And wow! That's an interesting story to hear! But knowing how I would have reacted back at that age, I probably would have done the same thing lol. I actually remember back in 6th grade, I was 11-12 years old or so. I was walking to lunch. And I had a group of bullies walk behind me, and they started poking me & touching me. And I warned them, don't touch me.
Then one kid suddenly shoved me RIGHT into a hallway door. Which, slightly hurt my arm. And I just STRAIGHT UP turned around and punched him (full force) right in the face. I don't know where I made contact, but I know I did somewhere. I do kinda regret doing it, but I just had enough at that time & wanted to defend myself. I know at the time short after I did that, I did shed some tears & felt sorry about it. As I don't like fighting with people. And I've always been innocent. But thinking back at it now, I feel like it was justified. But nothing like that never happened again. And also, we both went to the principal's office for our scuffle. But, we were both let off scot-free. As long as my bully wasn't hurt.

Right hehe. Yeah when it comes to internet trolls, I don't let those people effect me. Because it's the internet. Everybody tends to hate everyone. So you gotta take internet hate with a grain of salt. It's when people come after me physically, is when I take action & defend myself.
And well, I wouldn't know if it was effective or not haha. All I know, is that he deserved it. He pushed me first. And while I shouldn't have done it, I did defend myself lol
