THURSDAY, AUGUST 11th, 1960

Thursday started out to be a rainy and windy day.
As everyone was getting out of bed that morning, Jed mentioned, "Aw, I bet our pirate ship is ruined".
"Probably cardboard moosh mash by now", Rex said.
"I guess it sunk to Davey Jones Otter's locker, you might say", Clarence added.
"With this rain, no doubt about that", Jed agreed.
During yesterday morning before Marge had taken the cubs shopping for school clothes, Zachery Bobcat who manages the W. M. Hindi store there in Duran had given some large cardboard boxes to cubs in the neighborhood. The cubs, along with Randy Fox and his sister Connie and brother Alvin, and along with Ryan Lynx and his sister Janice, as well as Al and Marge's cubs; Jed, Rex, Clarence and Donna, had taken those boxes to the edge of the desert just outside of Duran, and assembled a make believe pirate ship... The boxes were big enough for the cubs to crawl inside of, thus they had even cut doors and port hole windows in their little cardboard pirate ship. And they even used a shovel stuck in the ground in the midst of the conglomeration of boxes for a sail mast. And they used a borrowed bed sheet for a sail.
The cubs had a ball with that cardboard make believe pirate ship on Wednesday the day before. But alas, the rain on that Thursday morning had begun taking it's toll on their little cardboard Jolly Roger.
"Time to rise an' shine", Al announced to the cubs from the hallway.
"We're up", Jed replied.
"It sure don't look like a sun shiny day today though", Rex added.
"Yea, don't we know it", Clarence replied.
"It has to rain sometime", Al assured the cubs.
"If never rains, everything would shribble up and blow away", Marge said to the cubs just before going to the kitchen to get breakfast and coffee started.
As Donna had just gotten up, and was coming down the hallway, she asked, "I wonder if our pirate ship's okay?"
"Well, you do know what rain does to cardboard", Al reminded Donna.
"Aw shucks", Donna exclaimed. "So I guess it's messed up then".
"Like Clarence said. It went to Davy Jones Otter's locker", Jed jested to Donna.
"All that booty went to the bottom", Rex further jested.
"If you little pirates want to go turn on the TV, your mother is already getting breakfast started", Al said to the cubs.
With that said, the cubs went into the living room as Jed turned on the TV, leaving it tuned to KSWS Channel 8 which was the family's favorite television station. Of course the cub's TV shows haven't come on just yet as the weather and news were still on.
The raccoon giving the KSWS morning weather report was announcing:
" ...This area of tropical weather conditions recently brewing in the Pacific Ocean is located just south of Mexico and west of Guatemala, centered approximately at 15 degrees latitude north and 97 degrees longitude west. This system has not established a rotation, and is not expected to develop into anything significant so far, though the National Weather Service is still keeping a watch on it just the same.
As for our local weather here in the east central New Mexico area...Yes, as you have already noticed...Rain and windy. This rain system will last throughout the rest of the day, and after tonight it will move on out. Tomorrow will be sunny, but we will still have the wind. And like tomorrow, the next few days will also be sunny and windy...

"I bet the sail of what's left to our pirate ship is flapping good in this wind", Donna said as the cubs laughed.
"That bed sheet Ryan Lynx and his sister borrowed from their mother for that sail...It's still out there?", Al asked the cubs.
"Yea, it's still tied to the shovel stuck in the ground", Jed answered. "But it's just an old sheet anyway".
"Even it being an old sheet, I'm sure Victoria Lynx would appreciate having it returned to her", Marge said to Jed.
"That shovel's not old though", Al mentioned. "And it happens to be ours".
"I guess we forgot it, Dad", Rex replied.
"When this rain lets up, I want one of you cubs to go get it and put it in the garage where it belongs", Al said to the cubs. "I was nice enough to let you use it. Be nice enough to bring it back".
"And one of you cubs bring that bed sheet back to Ryan and Janice's mom", Marge added as she continued preparing breakfast.
Marge then remarked, "You'd think the cubs thought those things would go back where they belong all by themselves".
"You'd think", Al agreed, then suggested, "By the way, when that cardboard dries out in a few days, we should burn it so it's not laying around out there".
"Can we burn it?", Rex asked.
"Yea, can we?", Donna added.
"We can prop it up like a little fort or something", Jed suggested. "You have to fluf it up anyway for it to burn all the way".
"Wow", Clarence exclaimed. "I never burned anything before".
"You cubs can burn it as long as you have some supervision", Al answered the cubs.
"Make sure you have an older cub with you like your brother Jed, Ryan Lynx or Randy Fox if you want to burn it", Marge said to Rex, Clarence and Donna.
Al and Marge knew that Jed and the other older cubs in the neighborhood have had more experience with burning trash than what the younger cubs have.
"First our ship sinks, then it catches on fire", Donna jested.
"Whata ya know about that. First ship in history to burn under water", Rex further jested.
The morning news then came on TV following the weather report. There were continuing reports from out of Laos after their government had been overthrown by a coup two days earlier. There was also a news story that morning about the new African nation of Chad finally gaining it's independence from France.
In other news was also about the successful launch of the U.S. Corona spy satellite which was to photograph the the land surface of the Soviet Union from up in outer space.
Al had a sense of pride learning about the success of that satellite. Though Al himself was never involved on the project developing that satellite, there are a couple of fellow scientists he knows at work who did design and develop a component to aid in higher image resolution for the satellite's camera system... In the coming years, there would be a rumor that some satellites could read the starting instructions on field equipment from up in outer space.
"Breakfast is ready", Marge announced as everyone came over to take a seat at the dining room table.
"Wow! French toast", Rex cheerfully exclaimed.
"Smells good even from here", Al complimented as he approached the table.
"Mmmm, I like French toast", Donna said as she took a seat at the table.
"And home fries", Clarence said as he noticed they were also having home fries with the French toast.
"Oh gee, Mom. Cantaloupe", Jed proclaimed as he noticed the cantaloupe.
"Breakfast fit for kings and queens this morning", Marge commented as everyone agreed.
After Marge took a seat at the table, everyone gave a moment of grace, then began eating. With the breakfast was Wilkin's brand coffee for Al and Marge, and grapefruit juice for the cubs. Al and Marge also had some grapefruit juice as well.
"Don't we have any orange juice or anything else?", Clarence asked, as he was the only one who didn't like grapefruit juice.
"You don't like grapefruit juice?", Donna asked Clarence with surprise. "It's good".
"I can't believe you don't like grapefruit juice", Rex added.
"Well if Clarence doesn't grapefruit juice, he doesn't", Marge said to Donna and Rex, then told Clarence, "We have some orange juice left over in the fridge. You're welcome to it".
Once Clarence went to the refrigerator and got the orange juice, he was all set to enjoy breakfast.
"I know cantaloupe in my day in time is never this good", Clarence mentioned. "This is soft and sweet with lotsa taste. And it's not crunchy".
"Yuck. What kind of cantaloupe would that be?", Rex asked.
"That's the way all cantaloupe is I guess in the time I'm from", Clarence answered.
"That doesn't sound like very delicious cantaloupe", Marge said to Clarence.
"I'd say not", Al agreed.
Marge then said to Clarence, "I wonder why cantaloupe will be that way some day".
Clarence replied, "I don't know why. They just are in my day and time".
The cantaloupes they had in 1960 were either locally grown, or grown in the nearest geographical location that was suitable to grow them. Thus they were picked only after they were vine ripened, which gave them that soft texture with strong sweet cantaloupe taste.
In contrast, and what Clarence didn't even know, was the cantaloupes Clarence had known of in the 21st Century were grown in places as far away as China. As a result, cantaloupes bound for the U.S. have to be picked while still green so they'll survive the long journey across the ocean without spoiling aboard a ship. Thus, those cantaloupes turn out to be the crunchy and virtually tasteless ones that Clarence described cantaloupes being like in the 21st Century.
After the news was over, a couple of commercials aired, which of course were only a couple, and not the nearly dozen commercials like in the 21st Century.
The 1st commercial was a short ad for Wilkins Coffee.

The 2nd commercial was for Carling's Black Label Beer...Jed expressed that he begrudged waiting for another commercial before Captain Kangaroo came on. However, Al assured Jed if it were not for commercials, TV stations wouldn't have the revenue to stay on the air.

After the commercials, Captain Kangaroo came on, which was a big time favorite with the cubs. In fact, that show was a big hit with nearly every cub in America. And the Kangaroo who hosted the show had a charm that cubs liked. Everyone was still having breakfast, but the TV in the living room can still be seen from the dining room. Thus the cubs were able to watch and enjoy Captain Kangaroo as they were finishing their breakfast.

Being that it was raining that day, that didn't make for good weather for the cubs to play outside, so they watched TV for most of the morning. Al wasn't scheduled to come into work until 1:00 in the afternoon that day also. Thus Al, Marge and the cubs spent some time together after breakfast watching TV that morning. And though the Captain Kangaroo Show was a show for cubs, Al and Marge did enjoy watching it with the cubs.
Everyone had finished breakfast, and went into the living room to watch the rest of the Captain Kangaroo show before it eventually concluded for that morning. After Captain Kangaroo was over, two more commercials aired prior to the next show coming on.
The first commercial was one of those Duck and Cover public service announcement ads.

Shortly after the commercial began, Jed asked, "Gee, Dad. Would that actually happen?"
Al assured Jed that it wasn't likely the part of rural New Mexico where they live would ever become a target in the event that a Soviet/U.S. confrontation would happen.
Marge expressed concern of the Horizon Innovations Laboratory Complex where Al works.
Al assured Marge that a hostile country would most likely direct that kind of fire power toward targets like the Roswell Air Force base rather than to waste it to take out a single lab complex.
The 2nd was commercial Ipana toothpaste, featuring Bucky Beaver Space Patrol..

The show that followed those commercials was a rather mundane adventure show, though being that it was raining outside it was at least something on TV to watch and enjoy. And it was still a show geared toward entertainment for cubs.
While the mundane adventure show was on, Al mentioned, "I'll go pop up a few Jiffy Pops. The flying commando show the cubs like real well will be on after this one"
"Oh that will go great with that show", Marge said.
Al then went into the kitchen to pop up enough Jiffy Pop popcorn to go around for everyone.
Jiffy Pop had hit the market for the first time the year before in 1959. And being that Al is not the skilled cook that Marge is, that new popcorn product that's been out for it's first year was simple and easy to prepare... Anyone who can follow instructions could do it.
Shortly after Al got the popcorn popped, that big time favorite show the cubs like did come on... "Jet Jackson, The Flying Commando".
Marge had Al also get some sodas from the refrigerator for everyone.
"Awright! Jet Jackson Bear!", Rex proclaimed as the cubs cheered, and everyone dug into the popcorn.
This morning's episode was Saboteurs Of The Sky.

After while into the show, there was a commercial break. The first commercial was for Kix cereal...a product of General Mills.

Originally, the Kix commercial had Captain Midnight Bear promoting it years earlier. But since the show was bought out and became Jet Jackson a few years earlier, General Mills was no longer an official sponsored of the show. Thus the promo leader portion with Captain Midnight Bear had been deleted from the commercial.
"Can we get some Kix the next time we go shopping", Rex asked after another commercial came on.
"Yea. The Secret Squadron eats Kix", Donna added.
"Being that it's not loaded with sugar, we can go ahead get some the next time we're out", Marge promised as the cubs cheered.
"Gee wiz. I wish they still had the offer to join the Secret Squadron and get a decoder ring", Rex said, remembering the Ovaltine offer from when he was five years old.
"I know. That Secret Squadron was so keen", Jed added, remembering the offer from when he was age 9.
By 1960 the show was no longer in first run syndication as Captain Midnight with Ovaltine as the show's official sponsor. It was now reruns titled as Jet Jackson the Flying Commando.
"Since Ovaltine dropped out as a sponsor a few years ago, I'm afraid you won't see that Secret Squadron offer anymore", Al mentioned to the cubs.
"What?! Wow!", Clarence exclaimed. "You mean...They use to let cubs go out on secret commando missions and stuff?!"
Everyone laughed followed by Al saying to Clarence, "That wasn't a real squadron force".
"It isn't?",Clarence asked bewilderedly.
"It was like a little club for cubs who watch the show", Marge assured Clarence.
"They never did let cubs join in on for real commando missions", Jed affirmed to Clarence.
"Something like that would have been too dangerous for cubs", Marge assured Clarence.
Al then explained to Clarence that the Secret Squadron was a make believe thing for the cubs, and the membership and the decoder ring was offered by Captain Midnight Bear in conjunction with Ovaltine.
"Oh, so that's what it was?", Clarence asked.
"That's all it was", Al assured Clarence.
The 2nd commercial was a for a male's fur product, Brylcreem...Their slogan being, "A little dab will do ya".

Al uses Brylcreem occasionally, and oldest son Jed had tried it a few times.
"You should try some", Jed jested to Clarence. "Sheryl would love it".
"What does it do? Make your fur all slickery?", Clarence asked, as Brylcreem was no longer around in the 21st Century.
"Well Clarence is a little young to be using Brylcreem", Marge suggested to Jed.
"And Clarence and Sheryl shouldn't be getting too bonded if Clarence is to return to his home day and time", Al added.
After the commercials were over and the Jet Jackson episode continued. Even though the show was no longer titled as Captain Midnight, which was sponsored by Ovaltine, the cubs really did like that show just the same.
The cubs, along with Al and Marge, enjoyed the Jet Jackson Show a lot. Though after the show was over, watching TV all morning would get kind of old after a while. There were certainly other things to do on a rainy day besides watch TV all day.
The last commercial playing before the TV was turned off was an ad for donations for the Radio Free Europe campaign.

Al still had almost two hours before he had to leave for work, and the cubs wanted to go into the recreation den to run their 0-27 gauge trains (the kind with the three rail tracks). Thus Al and Marge came to the recreation room to enjoy watching the cubs run the trains.
In the recreation room, the large train board layout had three individual rail lines that ran in places that were either parallel to other rail lines, away from other lines, and crossed other rail lines on an overpass. And because 0-27 gauge tracks and trains used a 3rd, center, common ground rail, two trains could be controlled individually on any same line...Six trains in all can be run separately on the entire layout of three rail lines. Al and Marge even ran a train each along with the cubs. The rail line that Marge and Donna were running trains on had a rail yard, with some of it being double tracks. Thus the two trains Marge and Donna were running could go in opposite directions. The other two lines didn't have a rail yard and were all single track, though the line Al and Jed were running trains on did have an alternate shortcut bypass. Thus the two trains each on the two other lines were run going in the same direction.
And of course, that lightning struck Route 54 sign that Marge and the cubs picked up south of Pastura still hung on a wall in the recreation den. That was a novelty souvenir the family wasn't about to get rid of.
Eventually, it was getting close to lunch time. And it also wasn't long before it would be time for Al to head out to work. Al was scheduled to report to work in the early afternoon that day.
"Do you have time have something here at the house?", Marge asked Al as she began preparing lunch.
"I don't have to be to work until one 1:00", Al replied, as the time was presently 11:30.
The rain had let up shortly before Marge had lunch ready, thus this was the opportunity for Jed to go out to the remains of the rain ruined, cardboard, pirate ship and get Al's shovel to bring back to the garage. Rex also went out to get Victoria Lynx's old bed sheet to bring back to her. Jed and Rex had returned from their errands about the time Marge had lunch ready, thus that's when everyone sat down to a good lunch.
During lunch, the phone rang.
"I'll get it", Al said as he got up from the table to make his way to the wall mounted phone.
"Hello", Al answered the call.
"Hi there", their neighbor, Frank Coyote, replied on the other end. "Wanda and I were wondering if you all want to go out to The Hop tonight. It's on us this time".
"We'd appriciate that", Al said to Frank. "Let me ask Marge and the cubs".
"It's Frank", Al said to Marge. "He and his wife are treating us out to The Hop if you want to go".
"What do you think, cubs?", Marge asked the cubs, followed by the cubs cheering.
"We'd love to", Marge replied to Al.
Al then said to Frank, "We'd all like to".
"When I heard on the phone four happy cubs cheering, I figured as such", Frank cheerfully replied.
Frank went on to say, "I heard Marge and you got some school clothes for the cubs yesterday".
"Well, Marge did. I was at work at the time", Al mentioned.
Frank continued, "Wanda and I are getting ready to take Sheryl to shop for some school clothes. And Dotty is already out with her boy friend, Buddy, and his parents to get school clothes. Sheryl and Dotty said they'd like to show off an outfit of their new school clothes at The Hop tonight. We figured your cubs might want to do the same".
"Sounds like a good Idea", Al agreed. "Hold on a moment, and I'll mention that to Marge".
Al then mentioned to Marge about the idea of the cubs showing off an outfit of their new school clothes at The Hop.
"That would be so keen!", Rex proclaimed. "I'll wear my cowboy jeans, shirt an' boots!"
"Neato! Cool!", Jed added.
"Oh dope, dude. Yomp!", Clarence exclaimed, using 21st Century millennial lingo.
 "Awright!", Donna cheered.
"Dope? Dude? Yomp?", Al asked Clarence.
"Yea, Dad. It means cool, yea", Clarence answered.
"From the 21st Century, I take it", Al replied.
"It is", Clarence affirmed.
Al then said to Frank, "It's a go on showing off the school clothes".
"How late will you be getting off from work?", Frank asked Al. "I noticed you're still at the house".
"I'll be getting off the usual time", Al affirmed. "It's a short day at work for me today".
"Okay. Wanda and I will see you at your house at about...Oh say...", Frank started.
"I don't know what time I'll be getting off from work today", Al assured Frank. "When I get home, we'll give you a call".
"Sounds good", Frank replied before Frank and Al hung up.
"I'm gonna wear my plaid pants and black shirt, and saddle shoes", Clarence exclaimed.
Clarence was mighty proud of that outfit in 1960, though he wouldn't be caught dead wearing it in 2018...Nor would anyone else in the 21st Century. However, that snazzy outfit was really cool, like King of the Hill, and the envy of other cubs in 1960. Clarence felt like he was a millionaire hipster wearing it in 1960.
"I'll be a rootin' tootin' cowboy", Rex proclaimed, referring to his cowboy outfit, which was also very popular back in the day.
"I gotta get some pennies in my penny loafers", Jed mentioned, to go with his cool casual clothes he planned to wear.
Penny loafers with real pennies in the slots were one of the in things for older cubs and teenagers back in the day...If you weren't wearing cowboy boots or saddle shoes back in the day, penny loafers with the pennies in them were "the casual cool".
Donna was proud of her red "Dorothy slippers" like from the Wizard of Oz movie. She had planned on wearing those to The Hop that night with a favorite dress she got.
Everyone was looking forward to an outing at The Hop with Frank, Wanda, Sheryl, Dotty, and possibly Buddy that night.
After a while, it was getting time for Al to head on out to work. Al and Marge gave each other the hug that usually give, and then Al made a dash out through the rain to the Chrysler 300 and took off for work.
With the weather still being rainy, Marge allowed the cubs to set up the lap top and drawing tablet that Clarence brought with him from 2018 in his backpack when he arrived to 1960 in the time travel machine.
The cubs had a ball taking turns drawing stuff digitally, and by now they knew how to save those drawings on the few flashdrives Clarence had with him. Though saving the drawings on the flashdrives would be a moot issue once Clarence leaves to return to 2018 and takes his laptop back to the future with him. However, fifty years later there will be the lap tops, androids, and other PCs to pull those images up on. Fifty years later, there would also be the internet art sites such as Yiffy International, Inkbunny, Furaffinity, Weasel, Furrynetwork, Deviant Art, Youtube and others to upload those images on... As well as home printers and department store photo kiosks to make hard copies from... Although that was still 50 years into the future.

  ______________________________
Meanwhile, on the  west end of Torrance County, Biff Pitbull and his Brother Richie again asked Daddy about getting Richie a car.
Richie will be continuing high school within a month. Biff had already graduated in the class of 1960, thus his school days were over with and behind him... Which that left a dilemma though. When Richie will be in school, Biff will have Daddy's '59 Cadillac, thus leaving Richie without a car if he wanted to skip school, go out to a drive-in for lunch, or for some other reason.
Shortly after Biff and Richie had gotten out of jail for pulling the school fire alarm just before summer vacation started, they had approached their dad, Reginald, on several occasions about getting Richie a car.
Reginald had promised Richie on a few of those occasions, "Your mother and I will get you a car before school starts. There's plenty of time still".
Though at other times, Daddy Reginald had told Biff and Richie to figure out an arrangement of sharing the car when Richie starts school in the fall.
On this particular rainy Thursday of August 11th, Biff and Richie again approached Daddy about getting Richie a car. However, Reginald was presently on the phone with an unhappy irate customer.
"Yes. I understand how dissatisfied you are. I'd be too", Reginald told the customer over the phone.
The customer was a cheetah complaining about roof leaks due to a shoddy roof job done by a roofing crew on a new house not far from completion that Reginald had been contracted to build for the cheetah and his wife.
The cheetah ranted over the phone, "That lousy roofing contractor you hired, and his crew, also had a cooler full of beer out on the job in case you didn't know. And now that it's raining, my wife and I went around and counted 17 leaks in this house we're paying you to build".
"Okay okay...", Reginald started.
"It's not okay", the cheetah interrupted Reginald.
"I'll be right over", Reginald assured the cheetah before they hung up.

"Not now, boys", Reginald said to Biff and Richie. "A client just got off the phone with me bitching about a roofing contractor I hired. I gotta go see what the Hell's going on".
"But, Dad. You promised", Richie retorted.
"I know", Daddy Reginald replied. "But I got a client who's got a pin worm up his ass about a shit shod roof job on a new house. See you later. Bye".
"What do I do for a car when I start school again, and Biff has the car?", Richie asked Daddy Reginald.
"Keep it down! I'm trying to watch my soap operas!", Mama Diana retorted from the living room.
"That's not my problem. We'll discuss this later", Reginald exclaimed to Biff and Richie.
"Then can I use the 1960 Cadillac if I don't have a car when school starts?", Richie asked.
"Don't - you - dare", Mama Diana warned Richie.
"Your mom doesn't want you or Biff messing with that car", Reginald informed Richie.
With that said, Reginald made his way to his '59 Chevy El Camino and took off to check on the problem with the roof leaks.
After Reginald left, Biff said to Richie, "Don't worry about it, Rich. We'll go nab you a car".
"Like...Uh...steal one?", Richie asked.
"Yea...But we'll go across the Colorado state line to get one", Biff replied. "That way the car don't get traced"...
...At least that was according to Biff's way of thinking...Their game plan would be to apply for a replacement car title for a lost title in New Mexico, when actually it would be for an out of state stolen car. Then they'd get New Mexico tags and registration for it and they'd be hip to go. That kind of stuff was easier to get away with back in those days.
"Well...Uh...Like...What do we tell Dad where the car came from?", Richie asked.
"You know Dad by now", Biff replied. "He wouldn't give a shit as long as we don't get caught".
After all, Reginald Pitbull has a track record of pulling dishonest shenanigans on construction jobsites that were at times worse than stealing a car. And if the truth be known, Reginald would probably be proud of the boys for successfully pulling off such a caper.
"Hop in, and we'll go get the gang, and we'll cruise around for a car for you", Biff said to younger brother Richie as he got in behind the wheel of Daddy's '59 Cadillac.
"Hell yea", Richie replied as he got in on the passenger's side of the front seat.
Biff and Richie then took off to pick up Gaston, and the girl friends; Sandra, Aiva and Roxane.
Once the gang was all picked up and present, Biff and Richie explained how they were going to take a trip up to Colorado to steal a car for Richie. The game plan was to cruise the towns just across the state line of; Antonito, Manassa, La Jara, Sanford and San Luis until a car was found that would be an east target to steal.
"Don't we have enough money from that laundromat heist to buy a car for Richie?", Roxane asked.
"Oh the Hell on that noise. That's our money", Biff retorted.
"We're gettin' me a car for free", Richie added.
"You need the key, don't you?", Aiva asked.
"My brother doesn't need a key", Richie assured his girl friend Avia.
"I know how to hot wire a car", Biff affirmed.
It was about 1:00 in the afternoon. A trip to the Colorado state line, driving at casual rates of speed, would be about three hours, getting the pit bull teens into Colorado at around 4:00 pm.
On the way, they knew they would have to stop to get gas. There was the Flying A gas station on Route 41 between Moriarty and Santa Fe, but with the stunt they pulled stealing gas a few days ago they didn't dare stop there. They did have enough gas to make it to Santa Fe, thus that's where they topped off the tank of the '59 Cadillac.
After they got the gas and paid the attendant, they were again on their way to Colorado.
"We'll finally have a car of our own", Richie's girl friend, Aiva, said to Richie.
"Yea, you got it", Richie replied.
"Can we also snag a car for me and Gaston", Roxane asked.
"We'll do that on another trip", Biff replied. "Nabbing one car at a time is risky enough as it is".
Shortly before 4:00, the delinquent pit bull teens crossed the state line into Colorado on Highway 285. It was raining some across the state line like it was in New Mexico, but not as much. The town of Antonito was not far across the state line, thus that's where they first starting looking for a car to steal.
As they passed a Plymouth Dodge dealership near Antonito, Gaston suggested, "Wow! What about a new car off that lot when they close tonight?"
"You'll Never get away with stealing one off a dealership", Biff assured Gaston.
"Nice looking cars though", Avia said.
"And all brand new too", Roxane added.
"You'll never pull it off though", said Biff.
They then cruised the residential neighborhoods casing out a car to steal, which they did find a few prospects. However, being only shortly after 4:00 in the evening, that was still too early to try to steal a car. After casing Antonito, they cruised the other nearby towns. While cruising Manassa, they spotted a white 1960 Corvette convertable parked in the front yard of a house.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette_(C1)#/...
"Wow! I want that one", Richie exclaimed as they rode past the house where the Corvette was parked.
"You and me in a brand new Corvette", Avia almost swooned to Richie.
"Oh I can picture it now, Baby", Richie replied to Avia.
The Corvette was parked in a place that didn't look very secure, thus it was a prospect on the list of cars which were a candidate to be stolen...Though it was going to be a few hours before it was late enough into the night to make a move.
There was a cafe' in Antonito, thus the pit bull teens hung out there until it was late into the night enough to attempt to steal a car. A waitress, who was a badger, came to take their order. The pit bulls ordered coffee, some ordered fries, and some ordered soup. Normally, the pit bull teens would have played the role of jack asses and harass the waitress. However, they realized that they needed the cafe' as a place to chill out in for a while and didn't want to be kicked out... At least not for now anyway. Right now, it was relax, socialize and wait.

Meanwhile, back at Duran, it was 5:15 pm when Al returned home from work. It was a short work day that day. Marge gave Frank and Wanda a phone call to let them know Al had arrived home from work as the cubs began dressing up in outfits of their new school clothes to show off at The Hop.
Wanda answered the phone, then assured Marge that she, Frank, Sheryl and Dotty will soon be ready to go. Wanda also mentioned that Dotty's boy friend, Buddy, will also be coming along.
As soon as Frank, Wanda, Sheryl and Dotty were ready, they got into their 1955 Chevy station wagon and dove a frw doors doors down to Al and Marge's house.
As Al, Marge and the cubs were making their way to their Plymouth station wagon, Frank mentioned, "We're going to pick up Buddy before we head out".
"Okay. We'll wait on you there", Al assured Frank and Wanda.
Clarence wanted to ride with Sheryl, thus it was arranged to let Clarence and Sheryl ride in the cargo area of Frank and Wanda's '55 Chevy wagon. Dotty and Buddy would sit on the back seat, and Frank and Wanda would sit up front with Frank driving. Al, Marge, Jed, Rex and Donna would ride in their Plymouth Fury wagon with Marge driving.
As they headed out, Marge followed Frank and Wanda to Buddy's parent's house on the east side of Duran. Then once Frank and Wanda picked up Buddy, they were on their way to The Hop with the Plymouth Fury wagon leading the way. Even though the Plymouth fury wagon has a 395 Golden Commando V-8, Marge knew to keep the speed down to 60 mph due to the fact that Frank and Wanda's '55 Chevy wagon is equipped with an inline six cylinder motor.
Along the way traveling down Highway 54, Al mentioned to Marge that Professor Nickolas Fox will be arriving from Area 51 Nevada the following morning to assist in fabricating that osculation fluctuator needed for the time travel machine.
"That will put Clarence closer to making it back home to his day and time", Marge mentioned.
"It's the only thing holding up the time machine from becoming operational", Al replied.
"We're gonna miss Clarence when he goes back", Rex said.
"I know", Donna added.
"We all will", Marge replied.
"Clarence feels like a natural born brother to me by now", said Jed.
"And to me too", Rex added.
"Well, you do realize that Clarence has his family he belongs to in the future", Al assured everyone.
It was known among the family that there was the possibility Clarence will make it back to 2018... But at least they could spend as much quality time with him as they can while he's still with them.
Following along in Frank and Wanda's '55 Chevy wagon, everyone had good company and conversation as Clarence and Sheryl rode in the cargo area, Dotty and Buddy rode on the rear seat, and Frank and Wanda rode up front with Frank driving.
"Oh, Clarence. In your day and time, what will clothing styles be like?", Frank asked. "I was just wondering".
"Well, not as flashy an' fancy and all like what I've seen in this day and time", Clarence replied. "In my day and time, printed T shirts are the in thing. And pants that are way down low".
"Pants that are way down low?", Frank asked.
"I take it that's not what everybody will wear", Wanda added.
"Oh, not everybody", Clarence affirmed. "That's what us younger animals in my day and time like".
When Clarence described what some other things are the "in thing" in 2018, Dotty mentioned, "Everyone would laugh at anyone wearing that stuff now days".
"Yes they would", Buddy added.
"Yea, Dad and Mom...Well my dad and mom in this day and time told me that when I first get here in 1960".
"I heard about the Bruno Mars Bear T shirt you had when Al and Marge first met you. And those pants that looked like they were falling down", Dotty mentioned to Clarence.
"Yea, that's cool in the day and time I came from", Clarence replied. "But I wouldn't even dream of wearing that in this day and time".
"What about business suits? How do those differ?", Frank asked Clarence.
"They're close to the same as what I been noticing now days, except the material isn't so blah looking. And the ties are wider", Clarence explained. "And not every shirt with a suit is white".
"Coloured shirts with suits", Frank pondered. "Well whata you know".
"Well pastel colours anyway", Clarence affirmed.
"Close enough to white I guess", Frank replied.
"How would what you're wearing now go over in the 21st Century?", Buddy asked Clarence.
"Oh they'd laugh at me big time for wearing this", Clarence answered.
"You don't say", Buddy replied as he was surprised.
"Aww, nothin' doin' ", Sheryl retorted.
"But I like what I have on for this day and time", Clarence affirmed. "This is neato for now days".
"It is the most", Dotty agreed.
"It's so cool", Sheryl added.
"I can't believe anyone 50 years from now would even think laughing at Clarence's outfit", Buddy Coyote said. "That's just unimaginable".
"They'd actually laugh at what most of us are wearing in that day and time", Clarence said.
"Different day and time. Different culture, I guess", Wanda said.
"I guess we'll all change with the times as time goes on", Frank noted.
Before long, the station wagons with the coyote families passed through Vaughn, then along Highway 54 through Pastura. It was a while before dusk and beginning to rain again when they arrived to Santa Rosa, where they turned left and headed west on Route 66, and soon going over the Southern Pacific Railroad crossing as they were leaving town. Before long, the The Hop, along with it's neon lights, came into sight on the right side of Route 66.
"There it is", Al said as they approached The Hop, with Frank and Wanda's '55 Chevy wagon following behind.
As Marge pulled in to the parking lot, she parked the Plymouth Fury wagon under the big metal drive in canopy where they always park, with Frank pulling up along beside in the Chevy wagon. The curbside service canopy was a blessing on this particular evening, as it was still raining when they arrived to The Hop.
There wasn't any song playing on the jukebox at the time when they pulled in, as no one had made a selection in a while.
As everyone got out of the cars, Sheryl and Clarence climbed over the back seat from the cargo area of Frank and Wanda's '55 Chevy wagon.
"We're not allowed to climb over the seats like this in my mom and dad's car", Clarence said to Sheryl.
"That's because our car is brand new", Al replied to Clarence after overhearing him.
"Our mom and dad didn't allow us to climb over the seats either when our car was new", Dotty said to Clarence.
"Now days, our car is five years old anyway", Frank added.
"Oh my gosh! Look at you cubs. Those outfits are gorgeous!", one of the car hops, Beth Fox, proclaimed as she came roller skating over.
"These are some of our new school clothes", said Rex.
"Jane. Come have a look", Beth called to the other car hop.
"Hold on until I get this customer's order to the window", Jane Fox said as she had just taken an order from a raccoon teen couple in a '57 Mercury.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Montclair#/media/...
Once Jane Fox placed their order at the curbside service window, she too came roller skating over.
"Oh you cubs are looking so cool", Jane complimented.
"Well thank you", Jed replied.
"We appreciate it", Al added.
"And Clarence", Beth Fox complimented, "You look like you're King of Swing tonight".
"Well hey...Thank you", Clarence replied.
About that time, a car horn tooted.
Roger Irish Setter called from the curbside service window from inside the kitchen, "Beth. Jane. You have a customer out here".
"I'll get it", Beth said as she went to wait on a teenage bear couple in a '56 Dodge.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Coronet#/media/File...
While Roger was still leaning out from the curbside service window, he commented, "Hey. You cubs are looking great tonight"
The cubs thanked Roger for the compliment, along with the adults mentioning that they were showing off some new school clothes tonight.
"We're ready to go inside?", Frank asked.
 "I am", Wanda replied.
"Sounds like a winner to me", Al added.
"Come on, everyone", Marge called the cubs to come inside".
As the coyotes came inside The Hop, the inside waiter and waitress, Calvin Kinkajou and Patty Coatimundi, were impressed with their new school clothes.
"Wow, you cubs look really hip this evening", Calvin Kinkajou complimented.
"Oh, thank you", Donna thanked Calvin.
"And Clarence over here", said Patty Coatimundi. "He's the up mostest".
"Beth Fox said I look like the King of Swing", Clarence proudly replied.
"Well Beth is absolutely right", Patty agreed.
Other patrons who knew the coyote families also complimented them.
Even the assistant cook, Benny otter, called out from the doorway of the kitchen, "Hey, lookin' good", and gave a thumb up.
They even complimented teenagers, Dotty and Buddy, on their new high school clothes.
The coyotes sat at the booths up by the front window where they usually sit.
The adults: Al, Marge, Frank and Wanda sat at one booth.
The cubs: Jed, Rex and Donna sat at the next booth over.
And teenagers: Buddy, Dotty, along with cubs: Clarence and Sheryl, sat at the next booth from that as double dates.
Frank also held off from lighting up a cigarette, though the ash trays on the tables were a temtation. Since Al quit smoking Chesterfields two months earlier, Frank had been trying to quit smoking Lucky Strikes.
Patty Coatimundi was working the tables where the coyotes were sitting that evening. When she took their order, it was their usual... Jumbo shrimp and onion rings with hush puppies and slaw The Hop was so well known for. For beverages, the adults, as well as Dotty and Buddy decided on ice tea. And the cubs ordered the various sodas they like.
Shortly after Patty took their order, a patron put a nickel in the juke box to play a song.

Long Before feat. Fabian  1960
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fyraWdCFr0

Frank, Wanda, Al and Marge, along with Dotty and Buddy, agreed they and the cubs wouldn't want to be playing pinball machines or being out on the dance floor when the food is served, thus they decided to wait until after they had dinner. And sure enough, it wasn't long before Patty was bringing their food and drinks out to their tables.
It was a wonderful evening for the coyotes, as well as for everyone else there. The Hop was well known for it's great food, home made ice cream and home made pies. It also had a great Doo-wop atmosphere, good songs on the juke box, a dance floor, pinball machines, a bowling lane machine, curbside service for those who choose to dine in their car, and it was a great place to socialize where most everyone knew each other.

After everyone enjoyed a really great meal, Buddy and Dotty decided to dance to the next song on the jukebox. And as they joined other couples who were dancing, they noticed Sheryl and Clarence also came out onto the floor to dance.

Another song followed, which was a romantic song that Clarence and Sheryl decided to also dance to.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd4QFGfVh2I

After the songs were over, the adults decided on everyone getting some of that home made ice cream. And that certainly was a winner to Buddy, Dotty and the cubs as well.
Buddy and Dotty got an extra large strawberry shake to share between them.
Clarence and Sheryl agreed on a large banana split to share.
Rex got a root beer float.
Donna got a regular size strawberry shake.
Jed got a butterscotch sundae.
Frank got a double dip, pineapple and vanilla ice cream.
Wanda got a strawberry sundae.
Both Al and Marge got home made cherry pie ala mode.
It was in deed a very enjoyable evening.

______________________________
Meanwhile, in that cafe' in Antonito, Colorado, it was about 7:40 pm when the pit bull teens had finished their food and beverage, and had waited around until it was getting to be dusk. And as far as an enjoyable evening goes, they were already determined to make the evening in the cafe' for everyone else around them not so enjoyable... When they had first arrived to the cafe' earlier, Biff and Sandra wanted to order 3.2% beer with their meals. The pit bulls already knew that in Colorado it was legal for 18 year olds to drink 3.2% beer. But because they were in a group of other teenagers who were still under 18, the cafe wouldn't serve Biff and Sandra the beer despite of Biff and Sandra being 18. The cafe' had in the past had situations where an 18 or 19 year old would let an accompanying 16 or 17 year old have some of their beer. Actually, Biff and Sandra would have done the same for Richie, Gaston, Avia and Roxane had they been allowed the beer. Anyway, Biff and Sandra had to settle for sodas like the rest of the gang.
As they were ready to leave, Biff retorted, "Ain't that some shit I couldn't get a beer. And I'm old enough in this fucken ass state".
"Yea, the dorks runnin' this rinky dink joint must think they're our baby sitters or some shit like that", Richie added.
"You'd think", Sandra added. "They did a good job of making me feel like I was 17 again".
"Well fuck that bitch's tip", Biff proclaimed, although they wouldn't have left a tip anyway.
"I got a tip for that little bitch badger who served us", Gaston jested.
"Oh, Gaston", Gaston's girl friend, Roxane, replied with a chuckle as the pit bull teens laughed.
"This is all she gets", Richie laughed as he flipped a penny on the table.
"Here you go", Biff said as he spooned some left over ketchup from his French fries on the penny.
"Gorgeous", Sandra remarked as they all laughed.
That penny tip was still only what a 10 cent tip would be in the 21st Century. Back in the day, a quarter or 50 cents would have been a decent tip for a waitress... And a dollar and 50 cents would be expected from a party of six.
"Get a load of this", Gaston said as he poured a puddle of ketchup on the table as the others laughed.
"Oh wow. What a riot", Roxane laughed as Gaston emptied the ketchup bottle on the table.
Gaston then set the bottle back down on it's side in the ketchup puddle, then dropped the little metal bottle cap under the table.
As they got up from the table, Roxane on purposely tipped over the unfinished portion of a glass of Coka Cola on the table as she and the others found it to be funny.
As the spilled Coke ran into the ketchup puddle, Sandra remarked, "Whata ya know. Tomata soup", which got another round of laughter among the pit bull teens.
As they were paying their bill, the cashier, a caracal cat, asked, "Was everything okay?"
"If me and my gal could have gotten a damn beer, it woulda been", Biff retorted.
"Yea. What the Hell. We're 18 you know", Sandra added.
"Yea, your Cokes taste like piss too", Richie wize cracked as the others snickered.
"How do you know what piss tastes like?", Gaston jested as he and Richie laughed.
"I'd like to ask you all to watch your language in here", the cashier retorted to the pit bull teens, as the other patrons in the cafe' were giving them dirty looks.
"Oh learn to grow up, bitch", Sandra smarted off at the cashier.
"How dare you?", the cashier retorted.
The cafe' owner, a bear, who already saw the mess left behind on the table, heard the dialouge between the pit bulls and the cashier.
After the pit bull teens had paid their bill, the owner told them, "You youngsters. You're not allowed back in here anymore. Don't ever let me see you back in here again".
"Don't blow a fuse, Pops", Roxane smarted off at the cafe' owner on their way out.
As they were walking out the door, Gaston remarked in a loud sharp tone, "That's awright. Your food here tastes like shit anyway!...HA!"
The pit bull teens were laughing as they got back into the Cadillac.
"What a buncha dweebs in there", Biff laughed.
"Yea, I know", Sandra added.
"I'd like to see the look on that dopy badger's face when she blows a fuse over finding that penny tip", Richie laughed as the others also busted out in laughter.
"And with ketchup on it", Avia laughed.
"Maybe she can lick it off", Biff replied.
Once everyone was in the car, Biff floored the accelerator of that 325 horse power Cadillac coming out the parking lot, laying rubber on the pavement, leaving a cloud of tire smoke, then speeding off down Highway 285.
Now they were off and cruising to find a car to steal for Richie. The first prospect they headed for was that 1960 Corvette that Richie said he wanted earlier, which was on the outskirts of a neighborhood in Manasa. Thus they turned east once they got to route 142 to go the short distance to Manassa.
Upon arriving into Manassa, Biff announced, "Here we are...Square town".
"Everyone's a square here?", Richie asked.
"Not that", Biff laughed. "I mean if you look at it on a map, it's square".
"Like, four corners", Sandra added, being she had seen a map of Manassa before.
They then headed down the street on the edge of town where the Corvette is as a song played on the car radio.
Now You Know by The Channels;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2zHF4JGSN4
There were some houses on the outskirts of that neighborhood that had one acre to one and a half acre lots. The Corvette was at an addresses with an acre lot and was parked some distance away from the house, and it was almost 8:10 pm as it had begun to get dark. There was also a very light rain. Thus it looked like a hot wire and drive off was going to be a cinch.
"There it is", Biff said as he turned off the headlights and radio as they were pulling off the street, then across the grass and sand, then parked up beside the Corvette.
"My car", Richie exclaimed as Bill shut the motor off and hit the trunk release so Richie can get the tool box.
"A little bit of a sprinkle", Roxane said of the light rain as everyone got out of the car.
"Works in our favor", Sandra replied to Roxane. "Everyone would be indoors".
"This is almost too good to be true. It's not even locked", Biff mentioned as he opened the driver's door to the Corvette.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette_(C1)#/...
"Saves us some lock picking time", Gaston added.
After Richie pawed the tool box to Biff, Biff wasted no time beginning to loosen the ignition switch from the dash. Once Biff pulled the ignition switch down from behind the dash, and was about to grab several jumper wires with clips and a test light from the tool box, the front door of the house opened.
"Hey! What do you hoodlums think you're up to?!", the male wolverine homeowner called out from the front porch.
"Oh oh oh", Richie replied. "We were just wondering if this 'vette's for sale...Ya know?".
"Do you see a for sale sign on the windshield, genius?", the wolverine asked Richie.
"I guess not", Richie answered.
"I guess not too", the wolverine replied. "You cubs better hit the road".
"Hey, we ain't cubs, you dork!", Biff retorted back to the wolverine.
The wolverine's wife then came out onto the porch and told the pit bull teens, "You better leave that car alone!"
"Mable, go in and dial the operator and have her get us the police", the male wolverine told his wife.
Upon hearing that, Biff snatched his tool box from the Corvette, then he and the others dashed back into their Cadillac. Once everyone was in the car, Biff wasted no time cranking it up, backing out across the front lawn, then putting it drive and stepping on the gas down the street, and there were out of there in a hurry.
"We better head on over to La Jara", Biff mentioned once they got down the street a ways.
"Right. Every copper in this town will be lookin' for us now", Sandra added.
"Boy, I sure would like to have had that Corvette", Richie said.
"We'll find a cool ride", Biff assured Richie.
La Jara was a little bit of a drive into Colorado, but not very far, being not much more than 10 miles from Manassa. And once arriving to La Jara, the pit bull teens began casing neighborhoods for a car to steal.
"Not raining here anyway", Roxane mentioned as they continued cruising the neighborhood.
"I can turn off the air conditioning and we can put the windows down", Biff mentioned as everyone agreed.
While cruising along a residential street, Biff asked Richie, "What about that one?"
"Oh yea. That's a cool car. I'm hip with that", Richie replied.
It was a 1950 two door Ford. And the black paint was still good and shiny, especially for a 10 year old car. The car appeared to have been very well maintained over the years.
https://www.google.com/search?q=1950+ford&hl=en&...
"I've seen those fixed up as hot rods", Gaston said.
"Oh they do make a neat hot rod", Roxane agreed.
"First thing I'm gonna do when we get it home is paint cool flames on the hood", Richie proclaimed.
There were also several other cars in the front yard as well: Among of which was a 1955 Packard.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packard#/media/File:1955-...
"That Packard looks like Queen Shitsabella's car...Kinda", Sandra remarked as everyone laughed.
There was also a 1953 Kaiser.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiser_Motors#/media/File...
And a 1955 Chevy station wagon.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Nomad#/media/Fi...
And a 1951 Studebaker which was the kind with the dorky looking bullet nose.
https://www.google.com/search?q=1951+studebaker+wikiped...
After Biff stopped the Cadillac on the street in front of the house, they soon found out why all the other cars were there.
"There's lions having a birthday party for a cub at that house", Sandra mentioned, noticing them through the windows.
"Cubs are making noise too. Nobody will hear us out here", Biff replied.
"So we going for it?", Richie asked.
"That car's as good as already yours", Biff assured Richie.
"Awright!", Richie proclaimed as Biff pulled the Cadillac up beside the 1950 Ford.
As everyone got out of the car, Biff noticed the Ford was locked. But that was no problem being that they had a stout clothes hanger fashioned into a lock picking tool along with them.
As Biff began inserting the hooked end of the clothes hanger down in the driver's door between the weather stripping and window, he jested to Richie, "I bet that Studebaker's unlocked. What about that one?"
"I wouldn't be caught dead in that nerdy ass rattle trap", Richie laughed as the others also laughed.
"That damn Studebaker looks like it has a clown nose", Sandra laughed, referring to the bullet shape nose structure of the 1951 Studebaker.
https://www.google.com/search?q=1951+studebaker+wikiped...
"More like a freakin' seal on wheels", Roxane added. "Speak about Mister Nerdmeister".
"Yea. The geek who designed that crummy lookin' crate shoulda been shot", Gaston proclaimed as everyone laughed.
Little did the pit bull teens realize, all their joking around and laughter was heard by the lions who were inside at the birthday party.
"What's going on out here?!...Get away from that car!", an African lion, the male home owner, said to the pit bull teens as he stepped out of the house.
"Oh hey. We were just lookin' ", Biff replied.
"Since when do you look with your paws?", the lion retorted at Biff.
Then the lioness home owner, the lion's wife, came out of the house and announced, "I think all of you better get away from our car if you know what's good for you".
A few of the lion cubs also started to come outside.
The male cub who's birthday it was, asked, "What happened, Mama".
"Go back in the house", the lioness said to the cubs.
Two of the lion's brothers, along with their wives, then came outside.
"What's the problem?", the lion's younger brother asked.
"That's what I'd like to know", his wife added.
Then a brother and sister of the lioness, along with their spouses, also came outside.
"What's happening here", the lioness' brother asked.
"These wize guys are messing with our car", the lion answered his brother-in-law as the eight other adult lions (10 in all) began to approach the pit bulls.
"I think you all better leave", the lion's older brother said to the pit bull teens.
"Just looking, huh?", the lion asked. "What's a clothes hanger doing jammed in the door of my car?".
"I don't know...It was like, uh, already there", Biff replied, knowing that even one of those ten African lions could easily tear those pit bull teens from limb to limb if they wanted to.
"I'm going to give all of you only 30 seconds to get your asses the Hell out off this property, or it's not going to end pretty", the male home owner warned the pit bull teens as he glanced at his watch, then said, "You better buzz off now. You got 26 seconds left".
With that said, the pit bull teens wasted no time scrambling back into the Cadillac. Once everyone was in the car Biff cranked it up, sped back off the front yard, then high balled it down the street.
"That shoots the shit outa gettin' that one", Gaston said as they were speeding along the street.
"I'll never get a car at this rate", Richie retorted.
"You gotta be patient", Biff said to Richie. "It's kind of like fishing".
"We'll get a hit soon enough", Roxane assured Richie.
They soon cased out another neighborhood there in La Jara, and it wasn't long before Richie noticed a red, 1957 Chevy. And it was a two door hardtop (the kind without the door posts). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Bel_Air#/media/...
"Biff. That one. That's a cool car", Richie said of the '57 Chevy.
"That is a nice car", Biff agreed as he slowed the Cadillac down and made a U turn to come back to it.
"That car is cool", Avia agreed as Biff turned off the headlights, then drove onto the front yard, then parked the Cadillac beside the '57 Chevy.
"We should get lucky with this one", Gaston proclaimed as everyone got out of the car.
However, not so lucky though...The homeowner, a bear, immediately came out of the house.
"If you teenagers are up to no good, you better leave now", the bear called out.
Gaston mimicked the bear by saying, "Nya nya nya. If you teenagers are up to no good...".
"Go get 'em!", the bear said to two of his non-anthro pit bulls, named Hagetha and Mean Moe, as he let them out the front door.
As Hagetha and Mean Moe came charging with teeth showing and snarling, Biff and the others dashed back into that '59 Cadillac as swiftly as they could. Once everyone was in the car, the doors were slammed shut just in time to stop the non-anthro pit bulls from getting in, and without a second to spare. As Biff began backing the Cadillac out across the front yard, Mean Moe began hopping up at the open driver's window while growling and barking.
"Oh shut the Hell up", Biff said at Mean Moe as Biff raised the power window while continuing to back the car toward the street.
The others who were sitting near a window raised them as well.
Once Biff got the Cadillac backed out onto the street, he was careful not to run over Hagetha and Mean Moe being they were pit bull dogs. Had the non-anthro dogs been any other breed, Biff would have run that 325 horse power, 5,000 pound Cadillac over top of them.
Once Hagetha and Mean Moe were out of the way, Biff stomped the accelerator, speeding away spinning and squalling the rear tires.
"Shit. We're batting a bad average so far", Roxane said as everyone put the power windows back down.
"Tell me about it", Richie replied.
"We'll try Antonito", Biff said as everyone agreed to head back south.
Thus, once they got back out to Highway 285, Biff turned south off of 142 toward Antonito.
On the way to Antonito, they ran into some heavy rain, thus they put the power windows back up, and Biff turned on the A/C.
"If this keeps up, we're rained out for tonight", Gaston mentioned.
"We'll come back another night if does", Biff replied.
However, upon arriving back to Antonito, the rain finally stopped.
Biff then asked Richie, " It's not raining now. What side of town you want to try, Richie?".
"To the left", Richie arbitrarily chose. "I have a good feeling about going that way".
Thus, to the east side of Antonito it was as Biff turned the A/C off, and everyone put the windows back down.
As they cruised the neighborhood, they saw a 1960 Chevy. They thought it was going to be a choice car at first.
"Naw. It's a four door", Richie mentioned.
"It looks like a Biscayne too. Probably has a six cylinder", Biff noted.
"The Hell with that", Richie retorted.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Biscayne#/media...
Then they saw a 1955 Nash Rambler station wagon at the next house.
"Nerrrrd carrrr", Gaston remarked as they past that one up.
"Nerrrrd. Turrrrd", Roxane added as everyone laughed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nash_Rambler#/media/File:...
Then they saw a 1952 Ford station wagon.
"Nope...That's a station wagon too. Don't wanna station wagon", Richie said.
"When we're married with cubs maybe", Richie's girl friend, Avia, remarked.
"Yea, but not until then", Richie replied.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Ranch_Wagon#/media/F...
Then they saw a 1960 Corvair.
"Weirdo car", Richie said of the Corvair.
"Yea, I don't like them either", Biff agreed.
"A glorified Volkswagen if ya ask me", Gaston remarked. "Someone musta had rocks in their noggin".
https://www.google.com/search?q=1960+corvair+wikipedia&...
They saw a 1960 Ford Falcon as they continued cruising along.
"Cute car, but I don't think so", Sandra remarked, then asked Richie, "What do you think?"
"Not my kinda car", Richie replied. "It would be a really hip car if it had a V-8".
"Yea, all of them have six cylinders", Biff affirmed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Falcon_(North_Americ...
And they saw a 1957 Oldsmobile station wagon.
"That car would be hip if it was a two door instead of a station wagon", Richie noted.
"Yep. Another Daddy's car", Roxane remarked.
"That car in a two door is a really cool car", Biff mentioned. "It's a shame it's a wagon".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobile_88#/media/File...
Then they saw a 1957 Rambler station wagon.
"Nerd Daddy's car", Roxane remarked.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rambler_Six_and_V8#/media...
"You wouldn't catch me dead in that nerdster crate", Richie remarked as everyone laughed. "I'll walk first".
"The perfect nerdy wagon for the perfect nerdy family", Sandra remarked as everyone busted out in another round of laughter.
Roxane then jested as everyone laughed, "There was a nerdy mouse who had a nerdy house, he had a nerdy wife, and had had some nerdy cubs. He had a nerdy car".
Then there was a 1960 Valiant.
"That one looks like an army tank", Roxane said of the Valiant.
 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Valiant#/media/F...
Gaston then cupped his paws over his mouth to sound like a radio, then remarked as everyone laughed, "Take hill 49. Take hill 49...Bring up the Valiant. Boom boom".
Then lo and behold...A red 1957 Thunderbird.
"Hell yea. That's the car for me", Richie proclaimed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Thunderbird#/media/F...
"Hell yea", Biff agreed as he turned the head lights off then proceeded driving onto the front yard across the wet grass that had been drenched earlier by the rain.
"Oh that car is so dreamy", Avia further agreed as biff parked the Cadillac along beside it.
"I'll be one cool jewel in school with this car", said Richie.
"I think we finally found the perfect car for Richie", Sandra said as everyone was getting out of the Cadillac.
After the pit bull teens got out and began milling around the Thunderbird, they heard >BANG< and the sound of lead pellets flying overhead, followed by >click click<.
There was a wolf on the porch with a 12 gauge shotgun. Then his wife also came out with a 30 30 lever action rifle. The wolves didn't say anything. The pit bull teens didn't say anything either. They just scrambled back into their Cadillac as quick as they possibly can with their feet slipping around on the wet grass. Once everyone was back into the car, Biff didn't take the time to back out across the front yard. Biff floored it in reverse with the wheels spinning on the wet grass, then steered sharply to the right in reverse causing that 5,000 pound Cadillac to do a reverse spin across the wet grass. Biff then put it in drive, straightened the wheels, then stomped the accelerator while spinning wheels and cutting rut paths in the wet grass diagonally across the front yard on their way out to the street. Once they were onto the street, they were out of there...and with ruts left in the front yard belonging to the wolf couple.
"Damn I really wanted that Thunderbird so bad", Richie retorted as they headed back out to Highway 285.
"We should try this another night. We still have a few weeks before school begins again", Biff said as everyone agreed.
"So when are we comin' back here again?", Gaston asked.
"Not here", Biff answered. "We'll try a different state".
"Might find a good pick up truck in Texas if Richie's cool with that", Avia suggested.
"Oh no. Not Texas", said Biff. "I heard it's a good place to get your head blown off".
"I'm not all that hip with a pick up truck anyway", said Richie.
"So Arizona maybe?", Sandra asked.
"Could be...Or Utah", Biff replied.
On the way back, they decided it wasn't going to be a wasted trip. The pit bulls were wanting a drink, and it didn't mean water. They were wanting some booze. However, at this time of night, they've always had no luck bribing someone 21 and over to go into a liquor store to get a fifth for them. But they were still in Colorado. And in Colorado, Biff and Sandra would be old enough to go in and buy 3.2% beer.
"As long as we're in Colorado, I guess we could settle for beer tonight", Roxane mentioned.
"Beer? That's what Mom drinks watching her soap operas", Richie retorted.
"Well, granted it won't be like Old Crow, but at least it will be something", Gaston replied.
"Yea,something. That's about it", Avia mentioned.
"Well, lotsa luck finding someone 21 we could pay this time of night to get whikey for us", Sandra replied.
"There's that liquor store we saw on our way here", Biff said as they were leaving Antonito. "Once we cross the state line back into New Mexico, we won't even be able to get the three point two beer".
"We could at least get the beer", Gaston suggested.
"Well, whata say everybody?. The liquor store is just up ahead", Biff asked. "Beer or no".
Everyone agreed to stop in for the beer, thus upon arriving to the liquor store, Biff pulled on in. The Colorado/New Mexico state line was less than two miles down the road, thus that liquor store was the last chance stop for Biff and Sandra to legally buy 3.2 beer...which would be for the whole gang of course.
"I can tell it's been raining here too", Sandra mentioned as Biff parked the Cadillac out of view of the store windows.
"Rained a lot from the looks of it too", Biff replied.
Everyone decided on a case, and it was agreed that Biff would go in alone. If the proprietor knew the younger teens were with him, there was the risk of the sale being refused.
After Biff got out of the car, he asked, "What brand do we all want?"
"Gee wizz. I don't know", Gaston answered as the others also didn't know.
"I hear Rolling Rock's good", Sandra suggested.
"Rolling Rock it is", Biff affirmed as everyone agreed.
Then Biff walked over to the store.
Upon entering the liquor store Biff asked the cougar who was running the store, "Where is your three point two Rolling Rock?"
"It's on the 4th isle, little more than half way down on your left", The cougar answered.
"I was wanting to get it cold", Biff mentioned.
"We don't sell our three point two beer cold. You'll have to buy it off the shelf", The cougar answered. "My boss feels like if we sell cold beer to 18 and 19 year olds, they'll be drinking it going down the road".
"Oh gimme a break", Biff muttered.
"I am sorry about that. But I don't make the rules", the cougar replied, then suggested, "I do have those cheap Styrofoam coolers and ice for sale. My boss does allow me to sell those".
"Yea, okay", Biff agreed as he went and got the case of Rolling Rock 3.2.
As Biff came back to the counter with the case of 3.2, the cougar got the cooler and a bag of ice for him.
Before the cougar would ring up the sale, he said to Biff, "I'll need to check your I D".
Biff pulled his driver's learner's permit out of his wallet and presented it to the cougar.
"Oh, uh. From this, I can see you're 18 alright", the cougar said to Biff. "But because this is expired, I can't count that as a valid I D. I'm sorry, I can't make the sale".
"What do you mean you can't make the sale?", Biff retorted, being careful not to get too irate being he was dealing with a cougar.
"Like I said earlier. I don't make the rules", the cougar replied. "I can sell you the cooler and ice. But unless you can show me a valid I D, I can't sell you the beer...Sorry".
"Shit", Biff retorted as he stormed his way out of the store.
"Have a nice night, Bud", the cougar replied as Biff walked out the door.
When Biff returned to the car empty pawed, Sandra asked, "Where's the beer?"
"Yea. What happened?", Richie added.
"That ditz in there won't sell it to me", Biff answered.
"That's bull shit. You're 18", Sandra retorted.
"It's my I D", Biff explained. "He knows I'm 18. But because all I got is an expired learner's permit from two years ago, he didn't count that as a valid I D".
"You gotta show I D?", Richie retorted.
"I D, schmied-D...Buncha dweebs", Gaston restored.
"I have a valid driver's license", Sandra said to Biff, though Sandra doesn't own a car. "I'll go in with you this time".
Thus Sandra grabbed her purse, then her and Biff went into the store together.
This time upon entering the store, Sandra said to the cougar running the store, "I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience. But I do have valid I D".
"I need to see it", The cougar requested.
"This is it", Sandra said as she presented her driver's license.
"Looks good to me", replied the cougar. "Go ahead and get your beer".
After Biff went back and got the case of Rolling Rock, the cougar mentioned to Sandra, "I noticed from your driver's license and your boy friend's permit, you two are from New Mexico", then he asked, "You do know you'll be illegal once you go across the state line with this beer, don't you?".
"Is that a problem?", Sandra asked as Biff brought the beer up to the sales counter.
"Not really. Just letting you know", the cougar replied. "What happens in New Mexico is between you and the authorities in that state. Everything here is legal on my end".
Thus the cougar rang up the sale of the beer, cooler and bag of ice, using Sandra's driver's license as valid I D.
"Case of Rolling Rock three point two, 3 dollars", the cougar verbally itemized as he rang up the sale. "Styrofoam cooler, 32 cents. Bag of ice, 25 cents. Total is 3 dollars and 57 cents. With 11 cents sales tax, that's 3 dollars and 68 cents".
As the sale was made, the cougar did find it strange that Sandra paid for the purchase with 37 dimes (which was from their coin-op laundromat heist). Though he didn't give it much thought as he gave Sandra her 2 cents change.
Anyway, the pit bull teens now have their 3.2 beer, and the cooler and ice to cool it in.
"Thank you for shopping North of the Border Liquor and Spirits", the cougar thanked Biff and Sandra as they were leaving.
"Thank you", Sandra replied.
As Biff and Sandra returned to the Cadillac with the cooler, ice and case of Rolling Rock, Richie, Gaston, Avia and Roxane cheered.
"Hey keep it down", Sandra said to them. "You don't want the proprietor to find out we're a car full of teenagers.
"He thinks me and Sandra are alone together", Biff added.
"Oh. Okay", Roxane replied as everyone kept the conversation on a low key.
"He didn't give you no shit?", Richie asked Sandra.
"Naw, he was cool", Sandra assured Richie.
Once they got the bottles of Rolling Rock 3.2 in the cooler, and the bag of ice poured over them, they were then on their way down the highway back to New Mexico... At 9:45 pm, about a minute and a half after leaving the liquor store, they were highballing it across the state line into New Mexico at 85 mph...The following song was playing on the radio of that Cadillac.

Daddy Cleanhead & the Chuck Higgins Band - Something's Goin' On In My Room - 1955
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw4lhCnRCug

The first round of beers were passed around only shortly after entering New Mexico. That first round wasn't yet chilled, but everyone didn't want to wait.

Meanwhile, at The Hop, as the coyotes were playing the pinball machines, a song that was to still be remembered for the next 60 years played on the jukebox.

Rock Around the Clock-Bill Haley-original song-1955
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud_JZcC0tHI

Clarence discretely mentioned to the others in the party that Rock Around the Clock would still be well remembered in his day and time in the 21st Century...being careful to not let other patrons over hear him elude to the fact he was from the future.
At 9:45 pm though, it was getting late. So they agreed to finish up the pinball games they were presently playing, then call it a night.
"We thank you for the night out", Al said to Frank and Wanda as Frank was paying the tab this time.
"We all had a great time tonight. Thank you", Marge said to Frank and Wanda.
"We were happy to have you all along", Frank replied.
"You've been great company", Wanda added.
Jed, Rex, Clarence and Donna also thanked Frank and Wanda. And Dotty's boy friend, Buddy, also thanked them and Dotty for the night out as well.
And, Dotty and Sheryl were sure to thank Daddy Frank and Mama Wanda as well.
The tip that the Frank, Wanda, Al, Marge, Dotty and Buddy pitched in for Patty Coatimundi was 6 dollars and 50 cents...That wasn't shabby though...In 1960, that $6 and 50 cents was like a $65 tip in 21st Century economy.
"Oh, thank you all very much", Patty exclaimed, as back in the day, 6 dollars and 50 cents was considered a very generous tip from a party of eleven back in those days. After all, a full days wages working an entry level job anywhere else would be 8 dollars. And considering a waitress (and waiter) works several tables at a given time, Patty Coatimundi, like Calvin Kinkajou, did well collecting tips that night.
On the way back home, Clarence rode with Sheryl in Frank and Wanda's car as before. Of course the cubs were getting sleepy on the way back, and the rain had cleared out for the most part.
After arriving back to Duran, Buddy and Dotty bid each other good night as Frank and Wanda dropped Buddy off at his parents house.
Then they dropped Clarence off at Al and Marge's house as Clarence and Sheryl bid each other good night.
Al and Marge again thanked Frank and Wanda just before they went back to their house just down the street.
Shortly thereafter, everyone settled in for a good night's sleep after the wonderful evening they had.

Meanwhile, the delinquent pit bull teens returning from Colorado were concluding their idea of a wonderful evening out. After about two hours of travelling, Biff and company had already made it most of the way heading back home with still some ways to go. Biff was pushing it at some high speeds on the way back, thus they were making good time. It was about 11:40 pm (20 minutes before midnight) when they sped past the Flying A gasoline station on Route 41, slowing down just long enough to make the curve in the road past the station.

Four minutes after riding past the Flying A station, it was at 11:44 when the headlights of an oncoming car can be seen several miles down the road. They were now speeding along at 85 mph as a song played on the radio of that '59 Cadillac.

Red Berry - What A Dolly 1959
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCJ6tVWlnkc

"I wonder of I can hit that car when it meets us", Richie, who was sitting up front by the passenger's door, said as he held up an empty Rolling Rock beer bottle.
"Only one way to find out", Biff affirmed as everyone chuckled.
"You're gonna do it, Richie?", Avia asked.
"Oh, Hell yea", Richie replied. "You betcha".
Over the next three minutes, they watched the car headlights get closer as the two cars were coming closer to meeting each other. Out on those long straight highways out in the middle of nowhere, you can see the headlights of an approaching car at night long before it actually arrives.
Shortly before meeting the other car, the next song was already playing on the radio of that '59 Cadillac as the teenage pit bull hoodlums were speeding down Route 41 at between 85 and 90 mph.

At 11:47, only moments before meeting the car, Biff mentioned, "I bet that's a Volkswagen".
A couple of seconds before they met the car, Richie tossed the beer bottle over the Cadillac into the path of the oncoming car as Biff floored the accelerator.
The oncoming car, was a 1950 Volkswagen Beetle driven by 19 year old Tyler Ferret. A split second after Tyler met the speeding Cadillac, he saw the Rolling Rock beer bottle flipping end over end through the air flying at the windshield of his Volkswagen.
>SMASH< went the beer bottle as it litterally exploded against the windshield, making a big spider web shape series of cracks on the driver's side.
"DAMN!", Tyler Ferret retorted as the windshield was now cracked and fragments of the beer bottle were flying off of his car, making that glass twinkling sound.
Tyler was on his way to his night shift job at the Flying A gas station to relieve the station owner, Weston Hound, from his evening shift. Though Tyler Ferret was to report to work at midnight, he was determined to get the license tag number of the car the bottle was thrown from. Tyler Ferret slowed his Volkswagen down and made a U turn to go after who it was. Despite Tyler's determination to get the license number of the wise guy, it was to no avail... A 1950 Volkswagen is equipped with a motor rated at only 25 horsepower. After making the U turn, it took Tyler Ferret a half a minute just to get up to 60 mph. And top speed of a 1950 Volkswagen is barely 70 mph. By now, the delinquent pit bull teenagers were already speeding down the road in that '59 Cadillac at 120 mph.
"Damn it all anyway", Tyler Ferret retorted when he realized there was no way he was going to catch up to them.
By the time Tyler made another U turn to go back and continue on his way to work, the tail lights of the Cadillac were already going out of sight into the night way down Route 41.
Once Tyler Ferret arrived to the Flying A station where he works, Weston Hound noticed the cracks in the windshield of his car.
"What happened to your little Beetle?", Weston asked Tyler.
"Some knuckleheads highballing it met me just up the road about 10 minutes ago. And one of them chucked a bottle out at my car", Tyler said, then explained how he tried in vain to catch who ever it was.
"I saw a car flying on it's way past here 20 minutes ago", Weston Hound said to Tyler Ferret. "Had to be doing about 90 until they had to slow down for that curve just past here".
"It looked like it mighta been a Cadillac, or an Imperial or something like that", Tyler said. "But it was going so fast, it was hard to tell...It was a big car with big fins. I do know that".
"The one I saw flying by here like a bat out of Hell a while ago was a '59 Cadillac", Weston said to Tyler. "It had to be the same car".
Tyler also mentioned his car was not insured for comprehensive damage.
"Well it could have been worse", Weston Hound replied, noticing the point of impact appeared to be on the driver's side. "At least it didn't come in through the windshield".
Before Weston Hound went home for the night, he told Tyler Ferret about a Raccoon he's good friends with who runs an auto glass and upholstery shop in Albuquerque.
"Ask for Bennet Raccoon, and tell him you work for me, and he'll cut you a good deal on replacing that windshield", Weston Hound promised Tyler Ferret.
"I appreciate it", Tyler Ferret thanked Weston Hound.
Weston then headed home for the night, and it was now Tyler "holding down the fort" at the Flying A station until Roy Coyote comes on shift at 8:00 in the morning.

Meanwhile, the pit bull teens were not far from arriving at their home town of Moriarty. They were still having an occasional laugh over that Rolling Rock beer bottle that Richie tossed into the windshield of Tyler Ferret's Volkswagen.
"I bet that ditz in that Beetle is still spoofed", Gaston laughed.
"And how", Roxane agreed in laughter.
"Bet he shit his pants", Avia remarked as her and everyone else laughed.
"And to think he tried to chase us", Richie laughed.
"Yea. Chasing us in a Volkswagen", Sandra added. "That's really rich".
"I bet he was flippin' his wig the whole time", Biff said as everyone laughed.
Upon arriving in Moriarty, Biff and Richie dropped Gaston, Roxane and Avia off at their parents places. Then the remaining three rode out to the west side of Albuquerque to drop Sandra off at her mom and dad's place.
Moments before arriving to Sandra's parents house, a rock 'n' roll mummy song was playing  as the car radio was turned down low.

The Mummy by The Naturals (1959)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoIMTxEa23M

"Well, here we are", Biff said as he pulled up in front of Sandra's parents house.
As Richie got out to let Sandra out, Biff and Sandra bid each other good night.
"We didn't get Richie a car tonight, but it's been lots of fun", Sandra said.
"Yea, it has", Biff agreed.
"That it was", Richie added as he got back into the car.
As Sandra got to the house, her dad met her at the front door.
"Do you realize how late it is?", Sandra's dad asked her.
"So...It's 1:00. And I'm not your property, Daddy", Sandra rebutted.
"My house. My rules" Sandra's dad ranted.
"I'm eighteen, Daddy-o. Eighteeeeeennn! Ya dig?", Sandra retorted.
Sandra's mom then came outside and said, "Neighbors are trying to sleep".
"Yea, well. Sandra came strolling in after midnight with those scallywags out there again", Sandra's dad retorted.
"Watch who you're calling a scallywag, Pops!", Biff called from the car out to Sandra's dad.
"Yea!", Richie added.
"You want to come over here and do something about it?", Sandra's dad called back to Biff and Richie.
"Listen up, you two. We have neighbors who are trying to sleep if you don't mind", Sandra's mom called out to Biff and Richie.
"Maybe this will help them sleep better", Biff called back to Sandra's mom as he turned the car radio all the way up full blast, still playing The Mummy by The Naturals.
Biff then then put the Cadillac in drive and stomped the accelerator of that 325 horsepower Cadillac, and sped off with the rear tires screaming, smoking and laying rubber as they spun against the pavement, as that 5,000 pound Cadillac took off out of that neighborhood like a bat out of Hell...and with the radio blasting with the windows down. Biff probably woke up everyone within a few blocks of Sandra's parents house at 1:00 am.
Biff and Richie had a good laugh as they were speeding back to Route 66 to head back to Moriarty.
"That's what you call a little party action for the neighbors", Biff laughed as he turned the car radio back down.
"Boy I bet that put a pin worm up somebody's ass", Richie said to his brother about the disturbance on their way out of Sandra's neighborhood at 1:00 am.
"Probably a whole mess of 'em up a buncha dopy neighbor's asses", Biff replied as he and Richie laughed.
It was about 1:45 am by the time Biff and Richie got home. Of course their parents, Reginald and Diana, didn't give a crap how late their sons stay out at night. All they cared about is just don't wake Mommy and Daddy out of a sound sleep coming into the house.
Biff and Richie were then already in bed and asleep a short while before 2:00 am. For the gang, it's been quite a day.

         To be continued.

A short while before 2:00 am at the home of Al, Marge and the cubs in Duran, Jed had a bad dream as everyone was asleep. He dreamed of that time Al and Marge were letting the cubs drive when Clarence almost pulled out in the path of a passenger train with Al stopping the car just in time.
In the dream, Jed, Al and Clarence were in the Chrysler 300 with Clarence driving, like what had actually been. Except in Jed's bad dream, he dreamed that Daddy Al didn't get the car stopped in time.
Jed Coyote's Nightmare - Inktober 2020 - Oct. 19th by moyomongoose

Just as the speeding train slammed into the car in Jed's dream, Jed suddenly woke up.

As Jed sat up in bed, he thought to himself, "Jeepers. I'm sure glad that was only a bad dream".

During the night, the family usually has a radio playing music turned down real low in the living room. Along with the radio playing music turned down low was also the hum of the window fans in the open windows...Though it was an August night, it wasn't hot enough to use an air conditioner
This song was playing on the radio turned down low when Jed awoke from the bad dream.

Just Married , Marty Robbins , 1958

Rex and Clarence were also awakened by Jed being startled and awakened by his dream...Which of course they asked Jed if he was okay. Jed briefly described the dream to Clarence and Rex.
As Jed, Clarence and Rex went back to sleep, a song that first aired in that year of 1960 was playing low and softly on the radio in the living room.

Life's Railway to Heaven-Roy Acuff
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7T2Pkv_sEO0

Once Jed, Clarence and Rex were back to being fast asleep, the radio turned down low in the living room played the next song;

Red Hays - A Satisfied Mind (Starday 164)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L4CEZw1aMc

Not very long thereafter at 2:07 am is when that Southern Pacific passenger train comes through Duran running southbound at 85 mph.

The tracks run by only a few streets east over from the home of Al, Marge and their cubs. And everywhere in the small community of Duran, trains could be heard when they passed by.

That the radio turned down low in the living room had already finished playing A Satisfied Mind, and had begun playing this song when the Southern Pacific passenger train came speeding southbound through Duran right on time at 2:07 am.

Phil Sullivan - Rich Man - Po Boy (Starday 437) [1959]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAbWuxhlH00

When the song, "Rich Beast - Poor Cub", finished playing, it was followed by a station break, which was also about 2 minutes after the Southern Pacific passenger train had passed through Duran, which had already gone down the tracks about 3 miles away by then.

After the station break, the next song then played low and softly on the radio in the living room;

The morning was rainy, though the rain was letting up occasionally later in the day.

Frank and Wanda invite Al, Marge and the cubs to The Hop after Al gets off from work. This was also another enjoyable night out at The Hop for Clarence and Sheryl as well.

Biff and Richie, along with Sandra, Avia, Roxane and Gaston had their plan of the day too. Richie wanted a car, and it seemed like all Daddy Reginald had the time to offer were broken promises.
The gang figured snagging a car was a great way to get a car for Richie.
It seems like this night is an all time high for their delinquent behavior.
