DISCLAIMER! This is NOT directed at any one person. This is a vague generalization of everything I draw for other people. I'm sure there's lot of other artists out there who feel the same way I do about this kinda thing.

I saw something similar posted by someone on Twitter and thought I'd do my own take on it.

MPM, if you were open for commission I'd SO by something like a character sheet from you.

Keep in mind I've never commissioned anything, from anyone; and I'm poor... Ok, not POOR, but by Jove do bills love turning my paycheck into oblivion!

I don't say this lightly when I state, flat out, I love your style and I'd buy your work.

I love your art, I'd love to commission a pic from you one day if you ever open them.

Oh no!! I know the feeling... Commissions are so difficult. Often the reaction, even if positive, they leave you with a huge sense of doubt.
misterpickleman

For the record, I still love the picture of Tristan you did for me!

SO FLUFFY!!
GTHusky
5 years, 11 months ago
My biggest fear is that they don't look like Tristan and Taylor XD But that I guess has more to do with the difference in art styles.

I'm still very happy that you like it. It's such a relief :)

Oh do I know those feelings of "they're just pandering me", and not just when it comes to creative endeavors.
misterpickleman
5 years, 11 months ago
You think that, but then you gotta wonder WHY are they doing that? I mean, if they truly don't like it, why play it up. Right?
MadDog
5 years, 12 months ago
Good way to help with that sometimes, find someone that can be brutally honest, both ways. Will say when it's awesome, will say when it needs improvement.  Then no matter how much Person X says it's awesome, you can double check. Granted, even then, opinions are subjective. =) No perfect system.
misterpickleman
5 years, 11 months ago
But that sounds like work! D:
MadDog
5 years, 11 months ago
I guess it can be. But if it helps, I didn't follow you because I didn't like your work. I followed you because you drew some really nice rats.  You're gaining followers and people who like your stuff because they like what you're doing. I hope when you have those moments where you feel like you're not doing good work it'll give you some comfort.

And if you'll permit me to be sappy, just a little.

I've always found this to be an inspirational little song. I believe they actually sang a rendition of this at Jim Henson's funeral after he passed.

2 points to remember
we are always our own worst critiques and secondly just remind yourself that it is very rude to assume such things of others, if it helps pay attention to actions...if a person comes back to you again and again and again for commissions one should think that they loved your work after all they are dedicating there hard earned money to it, and there's no greater sign in this day and age of enjoyment then that, another thing to watch for is constructive criticism, its easy to think that someone being critic of your work is not liking it, but quite the contrary if someone is taking time out to point out problems and give you suggestions on how to improve it means they like your work and want to see it achieve its best possible form.

and how to spot people who hate your work, thats easy....there not here.
if a person truely dispises your art, they havnt watched you, maybe they have even blocked subs on you meaning they dont see your works, at all, on the site, that is a thing you can do here so it really is best to assume that anyone who takes the time to say something on your work at least has an interest in it, cause if they didnt all they have to do to banish you from there lives is click 2 buttons.
misterpickleman
5 years, 11 months ago
Two buttons? Well THAT'S a depressing thought... I wonder how many people are out there who hate me that much. :(
PrysmTKitsune
5 years, 11 months ago
sadly no way to know that i know of, for privacy reasons theres no way to see who has you blocked that i know of...maybe the admins have acess to that info but i doubt they would be willing to share.

Oh noes! You hates it! *SETS IT ALL ON FIRE*
Totterbart
5 years, 12 months ago
Well, i mostly hate any art you did so far >:(
I hate that stupid ass long comic with its lame characters and simple style... no shadows? No nips on males? No massivly complex backgrounds?? Tzk why even bother doing something at all...
And that whole topic... bottomless city?? Seriously? How dumb is that please... you could have go for an nudist setting then, makes it more believable.

And oh yeah, cub art as 95% of this stuff is... such creepy stuff, everyone who draws cubs or enjoys looking at them, are most certainly pedos in real life.
So please, stop drawing anymore and we all will be happy! 🖤🖤🖤

Vawkis
5 years, 12 months ago
Impostor, syndrome? Wait...the whole doubting your abilities. You're not able to succeed at stuff, disorder? I thought that was just a myth
Krayton
5 years, 12 months ago
Very much isn't. Even when I was starting to draw (and stopped b/c life) back 12-13 years ago, I was improving quite quickly and couldn't see it then.

It took looking at those old drawings after a decade of removal from drawing (and countless bottles of booze) for me to see I actually was getting much better.

I can't and won't speak for other artists, but for me, I could never make my art as good as it "should be". The vision in my head vs. reality never matched up and it made me think I still sucked just as bad as when I started.

If I'd had known this then, I'd have been more reluctant to give up drawing and now be eyeing starting, basically, from scratch again... (Stupid, stupid, stupid)
RhymeFur
5 years, 12 months ago
It's even when you succeed at stuff you still doubt it, as if someone's going to call you out on it and say 'no we where just pretending, you really suck at it'.

misterpickleman

Ha! No. I'm just a negative person all around. My motivation to continue is, oddly enough, internal as well. It would seem that the motivation is currently stronger than the negativity.

I have seen that some years ago. But I never commission you since I don't know if you take commission and I don't know you for long.

I love they way you draw your character, they are so cute, they have emotions in their face!

Don't stop drawing ever!!!

I assure you, every artist feels this way. We are our own worst critic. And if it helps you rationalize it, A huge part of your appeal (at least to me) isnt even so much your drawing (Which is definitely good, but of course there can only ever be one 'best'... whoever that is) but your writing. I am not exaggerating when I say that Sleepover is one of the best written comics within that respective kink that I have ever read. The story so far is both believable and still keeps the reader 'excited' while weaving the tale. You deserve the hype, and I have gone from not having heard of you, to checking your page WAY more often than I should in less than a month. Keep up the great work.

exactly how many hyped reactions does it take for an otter to get it.  4000 5000.  we love your work and I love being able to read and see the struggles an artist takes.  mabby you will never see it because you know about the 10 pixels that are out of place to you that we never see.  if this had the 10-pixel problem I would be shocked.

Hey! i can kind of understand your feelings from a general point of view, you may have one of the  AvPD (Avoidant Personality Disorder) types! if this happens quite often to you and with many different things and topics, not just art.
Zarius
5 years, 11 months ago
I genuinely like your sleep over comic. While capable of subterfuge, I dislike it and generally don't bother with it. Feel free to react how you want, but I'm telling you the exact truth as I see it. :P

Ok.... Nurse! Tell the Patient to pull down his pants and lay on his belly, I am going to him an infusion of Courage through the Rectum! D:<

Sillyness aside, I have looked through your work and honestly, you have progressed a lot during the time. Your work looks good and will look better and better as long as you keep drawing.

I think that's called "imposter syndrome". The idea that your success is a fluke and eventually they will realize it.
Even people who have made it to celebrity status suffer from it.
