I have a problem with self-worth...

I realize there are some people out there who actually do cross their arms the wrong way. Maybe they didn't have a good upbringing. Maybe they were in a horrible car accident and half their brain had to be replaced with tapioca pudding. The rest of us comfortably cross their arms left-over-right. Whenever I see it backwards in comics, it bothers me. Seriously, just try crossing your arms the other way and tell me it doesn't feel unnatural.

though as what was pointed out before though i made fun of him a bit the guy that pointed out that left handers do it the oposite way is true, the reason we subconciously do this is its a mechanism to protect our dominent hand, if your domenent side is left you put your right over top of it, if its right you put your left over top of that

Awkwardly enough, while I have no true dominant hand, my left arm is my stronger one and I cross left over right instead of what this statement would expect.

Ambidextrous, but my hands aren't necessarily interchangeable

I do some things with my right hand and other things with the left. My dominant swing is a left handed swing, so I bat (in baseball) left and kick (in soccer) with my left. I eat and write/draw with my right. I hold a table tennis paddle and serve/play it with my right hand, but in racquetball I serve and play with the racket in my left. In tennis I have no back hand swing. I use a mouse with my right. I use tools with my right..

Yeah, it's just a mix of hands.

i think youll find your tendency towords what your doing with what is down less to dominence and more prefrence, you probly first learned to do each of those tasks with the hand you mentioned and so lean towords that hand for those tasks, but could probly given motivation, do them just as well with the other hand.
heck figuring out how to do so can lead to some fun moments, in racketball/tennis a hand switch can really jar your oponents focus if you can do it without looseing your own.

also theres a diffrence between 'strenght' and 'dominence' my left hand is the stronger of my hands, but its not my dominent hand.

aaaand as it happens, I just watched an episode of NCIS and someone crossed their arms. I immediately thought "I guess this means she's the villain" and it turns out that she was. Dammit, this is haunting me already..!

Silliness aside...

Left handed-ism isn't a crime.  I grew up  being told being a southpaw was not right.  Thank god one of my early elementary teachers didn't agree with that assessment.  I'm happy being left handed, and I thank the world not to try and force me to be right handed.

(Sarcasm aside, I really didn't take offense to this.  If anything it made me laugh, for the old arguments sake)

When my dad was a kid back in the 30's, he was left handed. But in school, they forced him to use his right. (Smacking with rulers, etc.) Aside from that, there have been no instances of lefthandedness in my family.

I can assure you toilet paper always goes over the roll, away from the wall. I'm not a monster!

(Actually it mostly just sits by the sink, because for some reason the holders in this house can't actually fit a full roll. How does that happen???)

i only tuck my hands in when im actualy angry, when i cross my armos in frustration or bordom i just lay one overtop of the other and lock my hands around the elbow joints

I'm right handed and always crossed my arms left over right. Trying to do it the other way feels weird and unnatural to me, so whew! Not a villian. ^_^

speaking of backwards pet peeves. I read a Batman manga once. but DC wanted to not only translate the comic, but flip it over so people won't read right from left. huuuge pet peeve when you know Two-face is scared only on his left side. But they now made him scared from the right...

I read the Dark Horse English version of Gunsmith Cats and THAT shit was confusing... The comics were mirrored to be read left-to-right, but they took the effort to re-reverse license plates and signs... BUT the cars were still right hand drive. Except in one scene (where they didn't need to mirror it because it was three full-width panels) where Bean is sitting in his car on the opposite (correct) side. In the comic, it looks like he just moved to the other side for no apparent reason.

I'm right handed, no big physical/psychological problems or issues, but I cross right-over-left. I guess it just varies from person to person. I keep trying to do it the other way now, and it feels so wrong...

Right over Left!  I almost can't do it the other way.  (:

And a similar thing happens when you clasp your hands together.  My left thumb always ends up on top.  The other way just feels wrong.

An argument I have at least weekly with my wife...

We also argue over which direction the shower curtain should be pushed towards (whichever allows the easiest ingress/egress), whether or not the toilet seat should be left up or down (down, because you can't drop anything into a closed toilet and we own a dog who enjoys the flavor of 2000 Flushes toilet cleaner), and whether or not expired milk should be poured out or thrown still in the jug into the garbage (pour it out and recycle).

Now that I think of it, she also sometimes crosses her arms right-over-left...

I honestly have no idea. And sometimes I just put them under my arms due to force of habit. You become an arm crosser a lot after military because hands are not allowed to be in pockets except to retrieve items.

And then it's like your soul leaves your body when your comfortable and forget about the senior enlisted working around you and your taking a break and mentally forget you just slipped a hand in your pocket and you get a "Get your daggon hands out your pockets" yelled in your ear from behind you. Maybe why I have high blood pressure now lol.

Well, I'm basically left-handed so, I naturally cross left over right.  However, if I cross right over left, it doesn't feel odd.  It feels just as natural as left over right.  Of course, to cross right over left, I have to actually think about doing it.

You first tend to use your non-favored arm to place on your inner elbow, and then the favored arm rests on the top. So yeah, you could say either they're left handed or that someone's imitating how they 'look' without actually mirror reversing it.

Never bothered me though, I'd not pick up on that detail. Most times I don't even notice how-'handed' someone is (right or left) unless asked or it's germane to a plot.
