Fun fact: screwmlins cannot grasp the idea that anything they've done is bad and are genuinely confused whenever their victims fight back.

Great job on the comic page and its artwork. I can't wait to see what happens in the next comic page when it's ready to be released.

The description made me think something...
What if there were an outcast screwmlins who is outcast because they were actually good, in contrast to their entire race?
DrJavi

That is the whole plot of a future chapter of Misbegotten Kittens which I'm really looking forward to draw.

In the previous arc "Lazarus Next" it was briefly stated that not all of them are bad.

Really? I must have forgotten.

Well. If their entire species has a different, unique logic and perception of the world, then, i think, their 'outcast screwmlins', who is actually good, would have to be a psychopath or have some serious mental ill to be so different from their species norm.

That's more or less what will happen.

That happened with a brain-damaged Dalek in a Doctor Who episode - unfortunately, after the damage was fixed, it went right back to being ontologically evil.

I REALLY wanna see what the Screwmlins actually look like without the fake muzzles. And why do they feel the need to mask themselves in the first place. Some serious psychology going on here!
DrJavi
1 week, 1 day ago
We'll get to that in a future chapter. Those fake faces are actually part of their heads, but they didn't always look like that.

Somehow your description reminds me of Del Toro's "Mimic" movie, where the insects evolve to resemble partly humanoid with a face mask... but they are indeed still full insectoid and huge.

I don't wanna get too political with it, but

I honestly love panel #7.  That one moment of ". . ." as everyone tries to parse what just happened before all hell breaks loose.

And by the way, this is a truly interesting topic. Other races or creatures with completely different logic and thinking (i like this topic). For example, a race with a hive mind, or one that fundamentally cannot lie, or whose thoughts literally float in a cloud around their heads.
A race that is incapable of lying maybe would be terrified of those who can. They would probably want to stay away from or completely exterminate those species that can lie, make genocide them all.
And what about a race with a hive mind? To them, other species are inferior, mentally retarded or very, very dumb. Like reaaaaally dumb. Seriously. Spending decades training each individual representative the very same knowledge (that's insane. Such a waste of time!!!), when in their race, every member already possesses all the knowledge of the entire hive, almost from very birth. And such model of a race could even have variations in individuality and unified intelligence within this race. From the fact that each creature of this race is nothing more than a body for a single mind, to the fact that each member of the race is an individual, but with shared knowledge and the ability to share thoughts.

Azulians are a hivemind, and they seem to handle other races fine.

Azulians appear to desire cooperation with other races.
It could be that their environment to thrive in is among other races that are thriving themselves.

On the flipside are the Screwmlin who thrive in a environment of misery and chaos as it let's them outcompete everyone else.

The ultimate competition vs cooperation.

That doesn't make much sense. What kind of psychopathy is going on here? You can't make an entire race obsessed with chaos invade and spread misfortune and intentionally coordinated suffering on an entire planet, and have them completely genuinely confused when they're fought against by the people they've hurt. Some awareness, yet a lack of remorse for what you're doing, is needed.

Their logic is blue and yellow, rather than black and white. They likely don't see other species as sapient in the same way they see themselves as sapient, which gives them the moral justification to be as horrible as they want. The "Endoskeletons" as they call the other species, are just playthings to the Screwmlin, to be used and discarded when it suits them.

On top of that, most sapient species wouldn't attack a Screwmlin on sight due to their expertise in mimicry, which they take as consent for their horrible actions. When another species successfully fights back against a Screwmlin, it's not so much an attack on their body as it is an attack on their worldview, that other species exist as playthings for the Screwmlin and won't resist no matter how hard they push.

It's like someone abusing their pet dog and being genuinely surprised when the dog bites them. They don't think "I did something bad and deserve this", they think "Wait, that's not how this works, what gives?"

Considering the reactions of the demons, I think they were expecting the Screwmlin to be killed on the mortal plane, which would probably leave the portal open forever or something to that effect. They did not, however, expect the Screwmlin to be shoved into the portal, which would force the demons to be brought to him...back on the other side.

This detail gives quite a bit of insight on events during the Extinction. Lazarus Next's counterattack was a major "what did you expect?" moment for me, but from what you're revealed... They were literally unable to think that their sworn enemy, whom they knew had some manner of influence over the weapon, would turn it back on them the very moment he regained control of it.

That's... a pretty lethal weakness, as history demonstrated.

There is an argument to be made that a creature with no concept of good or evil cannot be held responsible for evil actions. However, I have a feeling others are telling them how bad this is and they're ignoring it, so I will simply enjoy a type of justice our world severely lacks these days.
AlyssaKamber

Screwmlins are interesting, because they know they're being horrible to other people, but they also simultaneously do not and (mostly) cannot grasp why it's a problem to do that. It's kind of an extreme form of might makes right: "If we can, there's no reason why we shouldn't." And yes, AFAIK, they deeply enjoy being horrible, they revel in it.

And also I really wanted to finish this chapter already.

The wanted him dead outside I guess?

They're not bound to the plane. They're bound to the SUMMONER. If the summoner dies on their native plane, the demons can remain. If the summoner leaves, they HAVE To follow. Like iron on a magnet.
