"Now I became Lazarus, The Death and Rebirth of the worlds" - Unknown letter, famous scientist possibly.

Mixing weird and metaphors a bit here, did you mean the speech that Oppenheimer gave/a biblical reference to Lazarus?
Scoutter
1 month, 2 weeks ago
Was my attempt, yeah. The original one "Now I became Death, the destroyer of worlds" not felt entirely fitting. cause Lazarus is doing some good things in some way I hope. Yet it is not entirely clear if he is committing genocide or freeing the world of a plague yet. Certaintly he developes a hate for bug people.

Self being so violent reminds me of how, in East Asian cultures, blue is the color of evil.
DrJavi

Ooh, I didn't know that.
RileyRivers

I remember learning that from a video about Squirrel and Hedgehog, the North Korean propaganda Anime. The wolves (being the US and therefore villains) are all depicted with blue eyes because of that.
FurrySunny

Realy? Isn't that because of the "all westerns have blue eyes" stereotype?
RileyRivers

Yeah... I might be wrong. I saw that video probably about 10 years ago so I might be remembering the details wrong.

Until further notice let's just stay with that you are right.
I'ven't even seen the cartoon.

Wonder if that's a chicken or egg thing? Did the blue = evil association come first? Or did the westerns = evil propaganda occur first, then backfill into the culture as blue = evil?

Huh, was it explosive force that destroyed everything around them or nanite disassembly? Probably doesn't matter but for all that carnage it still looks so 'clean'.

Very impressive, wonderful pages.

A bit of both. Super-speed surgical disassembly.

To like an atomic level or something? There is absolutely no visible organic matter there, yikes. Or wait... do I see some claws and blood like stuff? Maybe. Either way, very thorough.

Guess this location was, "Beyond repair"
And this is what "A little revenge" looks like.

I hope emotion dosen't hate themselves for letting go, once.

Lazarus Next looks very proud of themselves.  Can their opponent be saved or are they too insane?

We'll have to wait and see if it's possible to help him.

Sneaking feeling that Grey will be back at some point and less than helpful... Logical if Laz's story track's Campbell's Monomyth.

I assume the engineer is actually the core programming of the nanites themselves?
Or does this means the nano scientist has some control of Lazarus?

I mean, encrypted stuff? sounds kinda sus.

You'll have to wait a few more pages to learn what he actually is.

And so an avenging angel was born that day.
Bringing justice to those who wronged others.

Actually, this is how I immagine an powerfull AI being one day.
Not a power hungry dictator. Not a maniac who thinks it is a god.
Neither a psychopath who gets joy from others suffering.
Someone/something who will fix the wrongs in the world as efficiently as possible without causing collateral damage.

Aw dang. Looks like there was a bloodbath afterall, but I was kinda hoping Lazurus would intimidate the wretched bugs a bit first lmao. But red's right; harm prevention should take precedence over revenge.

I hope it hurt though.

Lazarus could have been reborn as a true monster with the powers of nano machines but reasoned in their assemby of id that violence shouldn't be the core of revenge or justice.

I must say, I'm somewhat disappointed Lazarus went the "reveal to the public" route.  Historically, even if a powerful person's full crimes are revealed, they generally don't feel a fraction of the consequences someone with similar criminality but less social weight would have.  Loss of title rather than loss of resources, probation/house arrest rather than jail, exile instead of execution.  A CEO commits millions of dollars of fraud and gets fined a few hundred thousand, never sees the inside of a prison cell.  A gangbanger steals $5,000 worth of electronics and knocks over someone on the way out, doesn't see sunlight for 15 years.  12 banks cause $2 Trillion worth of economic damage, one guy goes to jail (technically 47, but the point stands).  Math ain't mathin' .

Removing the veil doesn't remove what's hiding behind it.  They still have considerable personal resources and the ontological momentum that's built up.  By now the general public are just so used to Scremlins being around that the thought of wiping them out may not register as an option for the majority (or even enough of a minority for it to happen).

By the looks of things, the vast majority of Scremlins are outright incapable of existing within polite society as is.  The world would probably have been better off if Laz jut went full Doomslayer on any that hasn't already turned face.

That, and The Extinction is just around the corner...

"I've chosen not to kill you."

*Looks at incoming apocalypse*

"... But I don't have to save you."
Iruka
1 month, 2 weeks ago
Keep in mind that, nanomachines or not, Lazarus is still a kid who is making a nation ending decision.
And if they unveil EVERYTHING, every single bigshot under their influence is getting burned and while the doomslayer route would be more satisfying in a more vicseral way, unveiling what those parasites slowly buildt in their clandestine underhanded fashion must hurt tenfold for such creatures.

I am interested in their fate since the world has ended....
