Should the one who invented the gun be blamed for all the lives taken with it?~ The one who forged the first sword? Or the one who, the first time in human history, grabbed a stone and threw it as an attack?
Damn, philosophical questions. Let's just say I don't like their attitude at least XD

That's a great back and forth between Nge and Rawhead. A story as old as time: I invented "The Stick" so we can dig roots easily, but he turned it into "The Club" to bash other peoples heads in ...

I knew it! I called it! She was WAY to smart not to create some form of back up copy of herself once the opportunity became available!
Now the only concern is if she also put some sort of override function that would 'kill' Lazarus and replace him with her own identity. I'm expecting that such a program could exist but she either has no reason to run it, currently, or Lazarus has advanced to the point that even if she wanted to she couldn't.
Lazarus could be called upon to delete her, but really not sure if he could or would. She is still a genius.
Secondarily I'm VERY curious if these surviving Screwmlins are in any way....redeemable lets say. There was the mention of some that stepped away from their kinds worship of chaos after all. Mostly just wondering how 'alien' their mindsets are that would make Esperanza's usual methods not work. Between mages, psychics, alien tech, and their own investigators I'm mildly surprised this lot hadn't been found out somehow before now but then they would have every reason to cover their tracks after a catastrophe this big.

Yep, you got it right! Yes, although they are a tiny minority, there might be some good screwmlins in Esperanza too. If so, they are under very close vigilance to make sure they aren't just lying about it. The bad ones worship the Chaos Goddess of Deceit, after all. They might not be very smart, but they are sneaky as all heck.

All this time ive been wondering about the “chaos” worshipers, and now that you mention that they worship a chaos goddess of DECEIT specifically, their actions make considerably more sense to me. To clarify, until I saw this comment I assumed the worshipped Chaos itself as opposed to a chaos goddes which are generally two very different though somewhat related things.

The next chapter of Misbegotten Kittens will thoroughly explain all the gods of my lore, including all the chaos ones - some of which have already appeared in previous chapters.

Honestly why would she have to delete him? He's made of a self replicating nanobot structure. She could just have some of his mass goop off him and inhabit that. Then keep downloading the backup file onto him just in case she somehow dies again.

Entirely an option, certainly. Just thinking in terms of 'storyline twists' and 'always prepared' such as if her nanites hadn't worked so apparently flawlessly.
Or imagine if one of the Screwmlins had inspected Lazarus enough before the fight to find the capsule and activate it themselves gaining all that power and, potentially, using it for evil. Would be a good idea to have a 'kill switch' handy when giving someone outright super powers whether it puts her copied self in control of the nanites or not.
But yeah it would be quite a twist for her to separate from him, wonder if the nanites could construct her an entirely new biological body.

I have no idea. Although I checked that the last name does exist in some African regions, I chose it mostly as a reference to some African story told by an Argentinian comedy/music group I like, so I pronounce it the same way they did, "n-geh".

Gosh, these are coming out fast now. Did you have something good happen, leading to increased focus and enthusiasm? Or maybe the seeming delay before was from a bad thing that you have passed? At any rate I'm glad to see more, more often. ^.^
So, here's a backup Dr. Nge, running in a background process inside Lazarus. I find it pretty interesting she decided to do it this way! She clearly made the choice not to do to herself what she did to Lazarus. It was probably dangerous and might not result in the continuation of her own self in some way, I imagine, and likewise that's why she didn't do it after Lazarus was successful either. And, she trusted this backup method more than the sort of process that changed Lazarus, which I guess Ifind a bit odd, since I'd think a remote backup like this would be worse than the risks of what happened to Lazarus? It might be a personal thing, though. When it comes to the philosophical question of "Is this me, or is it a copy of me?" folks have a lot of different views and standards.
Lazarus shows again his kind heart in letting backup Dr. Nge hang out inside of him, but given their contrasting personalities I imagine they'll want to make her a seperate body (of some sort) to move into before long.
As an aside, how do you pronounce Nge? And is it from a particular language or culture? Having N and g together doesn't link up to a sound in my head, especially followed right up with an e. But, I also know some names written with modern english characters aren't pronounced anything like they look, like the common surname Nguyen, so I kinda don't even want to guess. Though, actually, reminding myself of Nguyen as a name, I had to find an audio pronunciation of it to remember how it sounds too, and maybe you're using the same sound? The pronunciation sounded more like an M to me, which would make her name sound like "Me".
The history of language and culture is wild. ^.^

Thanks for asking. I've been very busy with work lately, and it keeps getting worse, but if I manage to use any scraps of free time I can get, I can still get stuff done. Much less than I'd like, but it is what it is.
Dr. Nge knew very well that you don't keep your back-ups next to the original files, otherwise you risk losing both at once. Keeping her copy in a whole different continent improved its survival odds in case something worse than getting stabbed happened to her.
The original and copy debate depends a lot on the context, as we know. In this case, the copy is already pre-programmed to know that she is a copy and she's okay with that.
Regarding her last name, I have no idea how to pronounce it. Although I checked that the last name does exist in some African regions, I chose it mostly as a reference to some African story told by an Argentinian comedy/music group I like, so I pronounce it the same way they did, "n-geh".

Nge: "No, I can't just delete him and overwrite him with myself. Since I had to give him full control over the systems for it to be worth anything, it was far more likely he'd detect such a measure and delete me before I even got around to dying. So I locked it out completely. He can't delete me, and I can't delete him." Nge: "…Unfortunately, such a measure also means I can't just get downloaded into some other receptacle. We'd have to physically separate portions of the nanomachine-built body components, and even then each of us would still have at least a dormant backup copy of the other."
Next: "I would effectively be giving birth to you! Which is yet another reason to develop a 'Libido' guiding principle into myself, even if such reproduction ends up not being very similar to fully organic methods."
Nge: "wait what"
(just my imagination of how that conversation might go)

Great job on this comic page and its artwork! I can't wait to see the last two comic pages for Chapter 6 of this comic series. I'll wait patiently to see them when they're ready to be released here. Anyway, good luck and take your time and do the best you can.

I dare not try to figure out my own timeline, but I'd say years - Lazarus and Reiko had to walk there without knowing exactly where it was (until they found Elder).

Immortality through AI Nuero Cloning - interesting. Just like in Star Trek TNG's Episode "The Schizoid Man" with the Self-Professed "Data's Grandfather" Ira Graves consciousness into 2 different systems, for into Data, then into a spare ship's computer core. As long as that core remains active, Ira Graves lives.

I like Lazarus' uncomfortable expression when Nge starts the banter with Rawhead. For a highly advabced synthetic beeing he still is way over his head sometimes.
As for how this continues. Nge being in Esperanza inside Lazarus may not be a positive thing with her ethic thinking, but as she is a genius not having her would also be a really bad idea. So I think they will find a way to give her conscions a seperate body that they can monitor
