Growing up in an abusive household, Moira never had the chance to really focus on her education. She was more terrified of her father than to sate any desire to learn. Although she was forced to go to school, her grades plummeted and she was a constant failure. It wasn't until she went through the harrowing experiences of being captured by the Arbiter after she ran away from home, experimented on to grant her powers to explosively charge any one of her scales to toss like a powerful grenade, that things started looking up for her.
She happened to cross paths with one former police chief of Zabokar: Harold Bremingham. After the New Hordos War, he adopted both her and Achenar Debuine as his own children after having lost his family in a radical-induced explosion. Although, he was harsh in his mentoring, he was loving and fair in his parenting. He encouraged Moira to get back to her schooling and become that 'smartest person in the room,' able to talk circles around less apt conversationalists. It was hard to study at first, but with a cozy bed, warm drink and headphones to blast music and drown out the world - she could finally focus and excel. She was brilliant. She just needed to be given the space and opportunity to show it.
