Michael and Nina were born together and grew up together. Despite being wildly different in terms of temperament and personality, they still clung to each other in ways only the closest to them could see. They might have been doing their own thing, separated by either hobby, activity or even classroom while being raised in Talkar, Nina was always close by.
She was protective of her brother and was tasked and reminded by their mother, Taylor, to watch over him since Michael didn't always know how to socially adapt well with others. He would get teased mercilessly and Nina had to step in to break it up when Michael got agitated or physically violent since he did not know how else to deal with his emotions - sometimes Nina got violent herself if her bluster wasn't enough to deter the bullies.
Michael silently appreciated her presence and was generally calmer whenever she was around. Even if he didn't always show it, he preferred it if she just hung around even if it was silently doing something else in the same room. This dynamic was clearly seen by their parents and they did everything they could to keep them together - at least until Michael could better manage his interactions as he grew older.
One thing was for certain though, these two were destined to be siblings forever through thick and thin. A family burden Nina didn't mind shouldering at all.
She definitely would if she could! Michael isn't against hugging and close contact in general, but he is adverse to physical touch if he's not the one initiating it. It's a sensory thing for him. But yes, they are very cute siblings!
