Seems Lupe and Mae are fighting. Let's watch!

LUPE (suspicious): Why are you looking at me, Mae?"

MAE (busted?): "Huh? I wasn't looking at you, you're looking at me!"

LUPE (challenging): "If you weren't looking at me, how'd you know if I was looking at you?"

MAE (annoyed): "If I looked ay ou, it's because you were looking at me!"

LUPEandMAE (loudly; in unison): "Mom! She's/He's [respectively] looking at me!"

Oh my!

Pencil...

The featured pencil is an Iraqi copying pencil. Copying pencils have special dyes in them that can transfer marks made with them onto another sheet of paper.
The process involves chemicals and is rather complicated. Additionally, some very old copying pencils have cores toxic to humans (just like the lead paint that usually coated them).

See now, this is why pronouns are important. If these kids used they\them pronouns, they could share a word balloon, which would be much more aesthetically pleasing and free up valuable comic real-estate.

An Iraqi pencil, with your Iranian compass and Afghani protractor, you have weapons of math construction!

Or at the very least your paper might catch on fire with the speed you're putting out art. Whoosh!

In this case it's fine and add to the humor having the balloons being different, it's better to leave "they" if the character doesn't know who they are talking too or if they are nb, seeing they are siblings it makes sense.

When I write these, I 'hear' the words in my head. The dialogue is often the last thing that gets put on the paper, so when the time came to write the last panel ...I paused a minute, realizing I'd have to do something complicated so the balloon could be read properly. ^^

While being the only child myself, I've had friends that had siblings and bore witness to their shenanigans throughout the years. Through the highs and lows, I'm sure Lupe and Mae luv each other so much... as long as they don't think the other is trying to erk them off lol.

I'm sure momma wolf is hearing them complain and she, herself, sees two little as- bundles of joy that she luvs dearly. ;3

Funny thing is: I'm sure if anyone were to ever make fun of or grief Mae, Lupe would most likely come to her rescue. Something akin to "no one messes with my little bro/sis but me!".
