Well, the closet door is closing on Pride Month---someone has to step out from it, right?
Well, we're in luck! Seems one of Mustard's new friends is ready to come forward with his sexuality.

All that said, this IS a Chippy comic, so let's see how this goes...

ARROW: "You guys have been asking me, now I'm ready to come out.
Today's the day; I'm ready to announce my sexuality!"

ODELLA: "This is great! We love that you're coming out to us---and during Pride Month, too"

MUSTARD: "That's right! We're here for you no matter what!"

ODELLA: "And if any bullies give you trouble, they'll answer to me!"

MUSTARD: "Ditto!"

ARROW: "Gee thanks, guys, your friendship and support means the world to me. Here goes..."

ARROW: "I'M STRAIGHT!"

ODELLA: "Pfft!"

ARROW: "Uh, guys?"

MUSTARD: "Whatever!"

ARROW: "Where ya goin'?"

[exit friends]

ARROW (amused; to self): "Was it something I said?"

That last panel posed Arrow in such way that our new friend @floppy could count his toes (lol)

Arrow, Odella, and Mustard will remain friends---Arrow was just having a bit of fun playing against his friends's hopes/expectations (esp. those of Mustard!).

I don't think this cartoon is political or pro- or anti- anything, though one may interpret it as one will. :3
This cartoon is a light poke at 'Pride', in its modern form, as a concept (esp. as an inescapable one---and, yes, I'm familiar with the history of so-called 'Straight Pride', which is also a poke-worthy concept).

The humor here is heterosexuals don't 'come out', but anyone who isn't forthwith in answer to one's sexuality (regardless what it is) will be presumed to be 'not straight', and that person would be encouraged to 'come out' at some point.

This would describe Arrow's experience with Odella and Mustard.

Arrow didn't feel his orientation was the business of Odella and Mustard (it can be an innocent question, sure, but it can be taken as a nuisance---like being a man and presenting as such, yet being asked for your pronouns), so Arrow denied them an answer, leaving Odella and Mustard to their presumptions. :P

Finally, after realizing the fun he could have, Arrow decided to shoot down Odella and Mustard's expectations.

That's the joke. Is it funny? Probably not (none of my jokes are), but my watchers get what they pay for (which isn't much). XD

Even so, Arrow may in fact represent a minority group in my Quickie world. Of all the male characters who *regularly appear, only Tasli is undeniably straight.
Every other male character is either on the ace spectrum (as I am) or hasn't revealed their sexuality (Mubba, Lupe, etc).

It's the Quickie females who're inclined to hetero attraction. ^_^

*Caleb is straight, but I haven't drawn him for years now.

For myself, I'm acesexual. I have a letter and a stripe on a flag somewhere. I also have autism, which itself probably has a stripe if not a flag of its own by now.
I don't really care. My allegiances are extended to God, my beliefs/truth, and to specific individuals (both online and IRL).

Now, I can see the other side. For example, those who don't believe in or celebrate Christmas likely despise the month of December. I get it; again, there are months and decorations I don't care for as well (so have some empathy, eh?). ;3
I also understand those who are into Pride Month. I know what it's like to be excited in anticipation of an event. This one's just not for me; I don't celebrate Pride; I don't believe in it. It's just another thing to ignore (though that can be very hard to do). :3

Q. Am I an ally?

A. That depends on what is meant by 'ally'. Suffice it to say I'm not an enemy, but I will not bend the knee insofar as my truths and beliefs go. If being an 'ally' entails any of this, then I am not.

Besides, what part of this wasn't understood,

"Religion/beliefs: Christian/live-let-live
Politics: conservative-right" ?

'Live-let-live' has been my philosophy since even before I came to Christ; it's part of my original belief system and I'll never abandon it. Be whoever you want, and sleep with whatever adult consents to you (just don't invite me). :3
Refer to yourself as you please, but don't expect me to go along with it outside my free choice to---and keep your damn paws off my hypothetical children! D:

Seems fair and simple enough. :3

In the end, it's not individual persons who are a problem (which is one reason I accept most people as they are)---it's established powers and principalities that cause the most harm to the world (these shouldn't be met with the same tolerances given to people),

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms"
-Ephesians 6:12

Pencil...

The featured pencil is a fairly recent ad pencil for DCSO Animal Services.

DCSO Animal Services "...is responsible for Animal Control and Animal Sheltering activities within Orange County"

Cool. :3

I have actual 'Pride' pencils, but I wanted to feature this one reading 'Paw Pride'. lol
I kinda wish 'Paw Pride' was all the pencil had written on it, but wish in one hand spit in the other. :3

Straight pride should be celebrated too :p

Well, it's perfectly fine to be straight, but straight pride was made as a rebuttal to traditional Pride---no one involved in so-called 'Straight Pride' was really celebrating anything.

ScubaCat

Ah I didn't know that was an actual thing lol, too bad it exists for that reason too
IceAgeChippies
1 year, 2 months ago
Well, that's its origin, but likely not everyone involved sees or uses it that way.

Pride isn't a unified thing---there's a lot of conflicting interests being woven together in these flags and so forth (the gay and trans communities don't see eye-to-eye on a number of things, for example).

It would be difficult to convince the politically correct crowd of that.

Based af take.

For real though, it's hilarious how during "pride" month you're only allowed to be prideful of certain things and not others. Never mind the whole flag encyclopedia and the numerous communities at odds with each other. Bisexuals are frequently excluded by their own community for being "pseudo straight" if they don't have a partner of the same sex, meanwhile the feuding between lesbians and MtFs over what's considered womanhood continues to this day.

Well, at least he was straight with his answer. ;3

I think the important thing to remember about pride month is, yes, it was originally made to allow those whose sexuality goes against the standard grain (which in the country of the United States, is more of a religious tone) to celebrate who they are; it's more-so now used to allow anyone to proclaim what their sexual preferences are. Be you heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual, asexual, pansexual... it doesn't matter who you are and to proclaim that without a care for what others think should be celebrated.

I understand the thought-process of "don't celebrate and make a big deal if you are straight and allow those who aren't time to shine" as some people would think that you are just trying to cause issues or boast and I don't blame them; especially when a little while ago, people were trying to be forced to stay straight because it was somehow decided it was the standard.

I'm bi and damn proud of it. I know people who are gay and proud of it as well. I acknowledge who you are in orientation and don't use it as any type of factor... just like gender or race. It's unfortunate that in 2023 we need to be reminded of that.

Cute comic. Not sure if his friends walked away because they thought he was going to say something else, or if they don't believe him. No matter the case, he's a cute little guy no matter what he chooses. :3

D:

I understand it all; I may not agree with all of it, but I get it certainly.

If people on the side of something want it to happen, they have to unify, organize, and make their presence known and their voices heard. That applies to just about anything.
This, I think, was what Pride was about (at least in its beginning---I'm not a historian so maybe I missed something and/or my thoughts are too simplified, but that's my understanding).

I'm unsure what contemporary Pride is about. The LGBTQ+ community seems to have 'won', effectively (at least in America). Pride also seems to be much more sexualized and 'taunting' than I'm supposing it used to be (I've experienced only two parades in my life: one in the 90s and one in the 2000s; I've never been to a festival and don't intend to).
I admit most everything I know or see of Pride these says comes from rightwing news sources and podcasts, so of course the information is biased and will show only the worst of it (I fully understand this).
Even so, much of what I see and hear is wholly negative, oversexualized and inclusive of children.

The whole 'We are coming for your kids' thing shouldn't bother me---I do not and will not ever have children. I'll say also that I don't even like kids.
Even so, I don't approve of what the left is exposing to children, in the name of LGBTQ+
Again, I acknowledge some of what I'm given is misinformation (like, I know the student identifying as a cat didn't happen, and Target wasn't selling tuck bathers in kids sizes), but some of it is undeniable.
I've seen enough to know most anything under these Pride flags isn't something I want to be a part of or (of more direct consequence to me) forced to be a part of (ie, I'll not be made to think a man in a wig is anything other than a man in a wig. He may wear what he damn well chooses, but I'll not 'affirm' his beliefs---I have my own, thank you). :3

THAT SAID, look where I'm posting this: InkBunny---a site that supports cub pornography and sexual fetishes of every kind.
I've drawn a fair amount of it myself over the years (though I've pulled back quite a bit).
I don't mean to digress, but I wanted to point out that I myself live in a glass house, so I don't intend to cast stones. Everyone has their vices, and will defend them while denouncing those of others.
I'm also acesexual, which if I'm to tell it like it is, isn't biblical.
From a Christian perspective, our (true) rights come from God (ie, I don't have the 'right' to be acesexual---it's more my society has come to overlook it ...it's hard to know how I should feel about that).

Thx. :3

Odella and Mustard didn't like being teased is all---they felt Arrow had manipulated them via their good intentions (they weren't wrong). But they're over it by now. :3

I sometimes write as fast as I can draw, so if you can make sense of either the writing or the line art, you're a genius. XD

https://sta.sh/01bxbp9idh7p (very rough ...or RUFF, as the case may be ...in retrospect, I don't like the tail---it should probably be REALLY short, but end in a poof, like a poodle's). ^^

There actually were popple animals, including pooches and bunnies (and they're rare as hell): https://www.ebay.com/itm/125963671500

Holy smokes... I didn't realize how clean your rough drawings can look! They're really pleasing to look at!
You did a wonderful job on the Pupple's character designs. Absolutely loving both color combinations you used here.
The Popple-like puppy works amazingly well, while the poochy one adds a different flavor with the longer snout; that also works, especially in the third drawing where the cuteness is just too much too bare!
The tail looks good to me - but shorter sounds good too. I'll try making it justice once I get to draw my take based on your designs (here's hoping).

This was an absolute surprise to wake up to. You made this bunny very happy with your drawings. <3

Loving the random Popple popping in frame for a quick *wink* and just at the right moment too!
The little 'Pow' is also a nice touch. Pretty accurate to how priders behave when they don't get their way.
'We're here for you no matter what' - unless you're straight, lol.
Absolutely love your characters. Seems like you have a lot of them and how do you even come up with these names? haha :p

Seems like everything's about sexuality instead of personality these days. It's been getting harder and harder to avoid it in art and it's been a turn off ever since all the flags started appearing everywhere. I don't wanna identify as a flag, instead I am an individual who likes different things.

Whenever bride month comes around, I can only think of the gay pride fox with the rainbow flag behind him (made by Taurin Fox back in 04 apparently). Nobody in the furry community took that image seriously and it was just another meme.
I did like the edits of that image. They're still funny to this day, lol.

Oh so popple! D:
Oh so violent! D:

It's fine and even preferable to be confident in oneself, but I don't see the point in flaunting it.

Imagine if I wore a T-shirt that says, "I'm Autistic! What's Your Excuse?", a puzzle-pattern backpack with a sunflower lanyard hanging from, and a rubber 'Brain Awareness Week' bracelet (it's ok, I'm used to self-degradation lol). :P

I'd think I'd look like someone who WANTS to either talk your ear off or have a confrontation for the thrill of being offended.

Returning to the subject of orientation, I feel to flaunt one's sexuality it to imply availability. I don't think anyone intends it that way, but that's how I see it. It's one thing to be gay or straight or whatever, and it's another to 'advertise' it. That may not be the right verb, but that's how it comes across.
If one is wearing Pride colors (on an ordinary day) and they're wearing a wedding ring with them, I have difficulty parsing my thoughts about that. :P

Oops. Didn't see this, since it wasn't showing up as a reply.

I've certainly been lacking self confidence and it really hurt my progress, but I'm slowly starting to find balance.
Experiencing both extremes of the spectrum over the years has definitely steered me towards the middle.
I'm also autistic and have been living with adhd my whole life, but I still managed to see through narratives that the mainstream is pushing.

'Brain awareness week' sounds like something Brain would say in his quest to take over the world :p
Yes, it's hippies all over again. Certain cartoons were full of that back in the 80's/90's, although more just stereotypes.
Activism is for people who can't find peace with their family and loved ones.

Orientation is a funny one. I am bisexual, but initially my drawings were always male x female and it was only later on that I started having stronger feelings towards males, but I certainly never felt the need to yell my sexual orientation from the top of the rooftops.
There is so much more to explore about the characters personalities rather than just their sexuality.
