Yes, I colored this digitally. I began by removing dust ...and didn't stop editing. :P
Seems Mubba found something while on his way home. Let's see what it is...
MUBBA (to self): "What's this on the street? Oh, it's a lovie!"
MUBBA (reading the tag): "Poor thing; you miss your mommy, don't you? Oh, you have a tag... 'Gene'"
MUBBA (looking up at the purple sky): "It's getting late, and it's long way to Gene's apartment"
MUBBA (nose-kissing the plush): "You'll stay with me tonight! I'll call Gene to let him know you're ok, and I'll return you in the morning---for now we're gonna have so much fun!"
[True to his word, Mubba returns the toy to Gene the next day]
GENE: "Thanks, Mubba. Uh, it didn't move around on its own with you, did it?"
MUBBA: "Of course she did---she's real isn't she? Hey, I gotta jet. We'll play later, ok?"
GENE (to self): "'She?'"
[Gene and the Water Pet are in the bathtub together]
WTRPT (matter-of-factly): "Mubba is the sweetest, kindest, most thoughtful, responsible---"
[Gene makes a mocking talking-hand gesture at the Water Pet]
GENE: "Yap yap yap yap"
WTRPT (angry): "Maybe you should take a lesson!?"
GENE (recoiling): "Eeep!"
The pet has a right to be unhappy with Gene. Gene did, after all, leave her on the ground far from home, albeit we cannot know whether this was intentional or just carelessness on Gene's part (either way, it worked out that Mubba is always looking down and around, and has a kind heart). :3
As regards Mubba's use of 'real' and 'she'... what we can gather here is the plush revealed itself to Mubba in some way. Note Mubba didn't say the plush was 'alive', but that it's 'real', perhaps, in a 'Velveteen Rabbit' sense. However, Mubba's specific use of 'she' denotes the toy 'came to life' for Mubba outside Mubba's imagination (albeit, it's unknown if the water pet did so for Mubba in the extreme way it does for Gene). No matter what happened, Mubba doesn't consider his experience to be remarkable at all. :3
There's yet ONE MORE installment of the Water Pets saga to go before I change the subject. I'm mostly over my short-lived Water Pets enthusiasm, so I'm as grateful to be moving as I'm sure my watchers (who never had an interest in Water Pets) are. ^^
Last, this fox has been giving birth for years: https://sta.sh/0nyj2c4r12w ...I dunno why, but I find this funny. ^^ What is meant is the fox has had multiple litters during its long life. It's just the phrasing 'this fox has been giving birth for years' fascinates me (I wrote it that way incidentally when sharing the documentary with a friend). I dunno why I find this wording funny, I just do ...so I decided to share it. If anything's to be attributed to this, it'd be my autism. ^^
Also, if you reach in to take the kits, the mother will bite (so don't do that). :P
Pencil...
Speaking of things my autism likes, the featured pencil is a salesman sample from American Pencil Co.
Salesman samples are not the same as pencils with (legitimate) ads on them. Rather, salesman samples are pencils a salesman would show to clients interested in having pencils made for their business, personalization, and the like (for those who've followed me a while, it should be clear not all pencils are the same).
This particular specimen was made sometime after the end of WWII and before 1956, when American Pencil Co. changed its name to Venus Pen and Pencil. This would be an example of American Pencil Co's 'Drive Safely' line. I suppose these would appeal to operators of gas/service stations. The idea was you could have the name and address/number of your service station with the 'Drive Safely' graphic and road-safety 'joke' (we'll get to that later). You can't see the graphic too well in the above scan, but it's basically just a cartoon of a family riding in a convertible past a 'Drive Safely' sign.
As for the aforementioned road-safety joke that comes with this pencil... There are variations of this one, but the joke on the featured pencil is 'Sing While You Drive...'.
The pencil reads,
"At 45 miles per hour, sing 'Highways are Happy Ways' At 55 miles, sing---'I'm But a Stranger Here, Heaven is My Home' At 65 miles, sing---'Nearer My God to Thee' At 75 miles, sing---'When the Roll is Called Up Yonder, I'll be There' At 85 miles, sing---'Lord, I'm Coming Home' Getting back to business---DRIVE SAFELY! We like our customers & wish to keep them"
Get it? ^^ Again, there are other jokes, I just happen to like this one for its Christian theming.
In addition, the pencil reads,
"Your Adv. On Two Lines in Addition to Safety Message; Order from U.S. Pencil Co., 100 Fifth Ave., N.Y. 11, NY" (this is the part the buyer could personalize with their own words, etc).
I suppose I could have featured this pencil with a speed or driving comic, but none of the cubs drive (obv.) :P Mubba has a skateboard; Gene and Tasli have the Way 2 Fast wagon, and the group shares a (stolen) shopping cart ..but nothing that can go much faster than a cub can run. ^^
I wonder if Mubba called it a girl because it acted and sounded like a girl or because it was dressed in a female's bathing suit. Either way, you gotta love Mubba's innocence and imagination. You want to believe that the waterpet came to life, but it could just be Mubba being a good friend to Gene.
I did giggle a little at the thought of the waterpet actually attempting to give Gene morality lessons.

Gene doesn't believe in assigning gender roles. He believes in letting plushes grow as a toy without putting the restraints of social constructs on them. Mubba should note this.
Also, you had a chance Gene, you could've got rid of her. You were so close, but lacked the initiative.

At 45 miles per hour, sing 'Get Ready' by Rare Earth At 55 miles, sing---'I Can't Drive 55' by Sammy Hagar At 65 miles, sing---'Born to be Bad' George Thorogood and the Destroyers At 75 miles, sing---'Breaking the Law' by Judas Priest At 85 miles, sing---'Speed' by Billy Idol
Though I like the songs featured on the pencil I couldn't help but include MY version, which is most defiantly NOT for people to follow unless they're...different!(yeah we'll go with that explanation. It's safer! :D)
Also maybe Gene should listen to her, cause water pets usually do NOT get that angry at people for leaving them out on the sidewalk...usually! :D

The Water Pet will soon have its revenge---it won't end well for Gene, alas, but karma is a thing.
Dunno when I'll get to it, though---I have the idea, but I've not yet written a script. Moreover, I've neglected ACO, so I need to do something for that first. ^^
Oh such an album! D: I recognize ...none of it! XD *shot* The Water Pet will soon have its revenge
I KNOW these are probably not your taste but I figured you need to hear them even if just quickly to get the gist of why I picked them aside from the progression. :D Anyway this is what I listen to. On a regular basis! :D
(I should note that I find the Sammy Hagar song kinda lame but it fit the progression perfectly so it had to be included. ;D )
Then please allow me : At 45 miles per hour, sing ' https://youtu.be/psap3FltLfw ' by Rare Earth (
Considering they are "water pets", why didn't they think to inject some variety? How about an Otter? Or a water kitty? Or a water squirrel? A water frog perhaps? A cute dolphin? Why just bears?! (or what I assume to be bears)

That red "puppy" looks like a bunny in the commercial. The cartoon versions are far cuter than the actual toys, but thats a common letdown I think. (Lets be honest, as furries we fell in love with the box art. The toys left something to be desired)
