I just finished the first episode, with only an hour left of my medical leave. I'm glad I can post it before taking a shower and going back to work. It may not look like it, but these pages took a lot of work. I struggled over lots of tiny details there. I'm especially happy with the movie theater scene.
I finally got over the introduction of the characters and their relationship. Now I can start making stories with them.
Though this comic is fictional, a few situations are drawn from my personal experiences. I was very solitary as a young man. I used to go to the movies alone all the time. There was this theater that had retrospectives of old classic movies and I used to go every week. Sometimes they would play a series of silent movies like Metropolis and Nosferatu, or retrospectives of a director like Hitchcock or Cecil B. DeMille.
Later in life, I made a few friends with the same tastes and we would watch movies together and discuss them. The dynamic of the experience changes when you have others around you. This will continue to be explored in future stories.
Trivia: When designing the theater, I wanted to use as a model a real one, a few blocks from my childhood home. I checked my old country on Google Maps and found... an empty lot. It has been demolished. The theater in the comic is a combination of my memories and Art Deco references.
I have met a couple of people who become paranoid when they use cannabis. And I have myself gone through the experience of having someone guiding me with her voice while I was having a psychoactive experience. More on that too in future episodes.
I hope you enjoy it.
