do you know Jesus Christ and what he did for you? He was in heaven, in the ultimate ressort, and left it to go down to live in a dusty middle east town 2000 years ago. Then he taught for 3 years, healing the sick and sending away spirits. And finally he was killed by people who hated him.
Why ? So that he could pay for all our faults, take the punishment for us, even from those who killed him. If there are two persons sentenced to death, one of them can't say "please let me take my friend's sentence and let him live" because you can't be executed twice. Only an innocent could take the sentence on him (though evidently it's impossible in the typical justice system). All have sinned and earned the death sentence, everybody has at least lied once, nobody is going to heaven on its own merit because we are all sinner. But Jesus was without fault, he was the innocent guy who can take other's punishment, and he did.
Believe in Jesus and turn toward God. Read the Bible to get to know him. Get baptised in water and Spirit and his Holy Spirit will transform you, slowly or quickly, make you a better person.
There are only benefits. Sin isn't bad for no reason, don't lie and you never have to be embarassed when caught. Don't lie and you won't do stuff you wouldn't want to admit you did. Not killing and not stealing is obvious, as well as sleeping with a married person.
People say "if there is a God, why is there so much suffering ?" and it's a good question. The answer is there's so much suffering because people don't follow the commandments and harm others and themselves. Simple as that.
Give God a chance. Just talk to God in the intimacy of your room, ask him to guide you to him if he exists. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
