While digging through the pencil box at The Scrap Exchange, I happened upon the featured pencil. The pencil reads,

"Gene's - Borrow, Don't Covet"

Well, of course I had to get it ...so I did. ^^

for the inspiration for this comic. :3

GENE: "In my paws is the best pencil in the world! Isn't it glorious?"

TASLI: "Eh? I guess it's cool. Lemme borrow it, please?"

GENE: "But, Tasli, this is the best pencil, and it's almost perfect!"

TASLI: "I just need it to do a math sheet"

GENE: "All right, but don't use the eraser that's on the pencil---use this cap eraser instead!"

TASLI: "Keep it---I don't make mistakes!"

[TIME PASSES]

GENE (to self): "I hope Tasli finishes with my pencil soon---some music will help take my mind from it"

[GENE TURNS ON A RADIO]

RADIO (singing):

"I miss you (I miss you)
It's driving me crazy,
I don't want to
Live without you"

GENE: "NO!"

[GENE SWITCHES STATIONS]

RADIO: (singing):

"Where O' where can my
Baby be
The Lord took her
Away from me"

[LATER...]

TASLI (to self; reviewing math sheet): "Perfect!"

TASLI (to Gene): "Here's your pencil back. Thanks for letting me use it"

GENE (to self; cuddling pencil): "Oh, my lovely---we'll never part again!"

[A WILD MUBBA APPEARS]

MUBBA (noticing the pencil): "Is that a pencil!? Let's draw cartoons!"

~FIN

This isn't quite what Z had in mind, but what'cha gonna do? ^^

I am reminded of a T-shirt I once had showing two professors at a chalkboard covered with equations, and in the middle of it are the words, "THEN A MIRACLE OCCURS". The punchline is, "I think you need to be more explicit in step 2."

I'm surprised Tasli actually returned the pencil unharmed. Maybe I've misjudged him. XP

Aside from what was on the pencil you purchased, something tells me that, either now or growing up, you would have acted just like Gene if anyone wanted to borrow a pencil from you. :3

...Hm, well, it would depend. I certainly have a lot of pencils here anyone could use (or even have).

That said, I have some rare and high-dollar pencils here---advanced collector stuff that even I won't sharpen.

Hey, that's what clear glass cases are for. Display those rare and expensive pencils for all to see... then when no one's looking, open up the case and take a big whiff of that good ol' wooden goodness :3

I keep them in 2x8, acid-free zip bags. The better ones go in an assigned drawer; the others: in a box.

I'm the same when it comes to ink pens. X3 I have a set that I'm attached to, and pretty much draw everything with them.

It can have it's downsides for sure! There are times where I had to redo pieces.
If you do try inks, I'd get a lightbox. It's a life saver since you can easily re-trace a piece!

I have a play lightbox that was intended to be used with fashion plates (for little girls to draw hair/make-up on traceable doll faces). I use it to trace my own line art, in exceptionally rare circumstances, such as if I want to try coloring an ACO but don't want to ruin the original or be bothered to redraw it.

I know that feeling! Tracing can be annoying, especially if redone multiple times. ^^
I got mine from Christmas years ago, it's a large one with a button to turn it on/off. It's a glass one and it's pretty thin.

I sorta remember what you're talking about (toy wise!) I used to have sleepovers when I was really small, and they had one of them :D
