"Thanks it Ion, you are doing great keep it up!" a cheerful voice calling to a boy dressed in a hospital gown with braces on both his legs and on his left arm as he slowly took some wobbly steps, braced by one of his friends while another stood to the side of the walkway and cheered on as well. "Careful now Zephyr" the voice, coming from a doctor in the room could be heard again, "you are putting too much pressure on Ion's left side, please move your hand and brace him on his right ribs instead" "Sure thing doctor Zaru" Zephyr replied as he did what he was told remembering Ion's recent surgery and that fact his would there on his left side could still be tender. Ion was slow to move which was expected after all the recovery he had to do after his accident, months of just lying in bed after some painful surgeries to repair his broken bones had made his muscles quite weak, to the point where he could not walk or even stand on his own. Specialized metal plates where grafted to Ion's leg, arm and even rib bones to make sure they would heal properly but since he was still growing, once the bones had healed enough, more surgery was needed to remove them as the plates would cause more problems down the line as Ion grew causing his stay in bed to be extended as his bones healed from the screws being removed as the doctors didn't want to start his rehabilitation until all that was over and done with. By the time from Ion's accident to when he was able to start rehabbing around seven months had passed with him being immobile during that time, either in bed or in his wheelchair, hid body had forgotten how to walk and needed re-education, a long process that everyone hoped would allow Ion to get back to normal again, but it was still no guarantee. But that wasn't the main fear the doctors had, during the accident, Ion hit his head fairly hard, hard enough to where he had a large deep gash across his forehead and to cause a minor skull fracture though luckily enough were he didn't have any bleeding in his brain and the gash was closed rather easily with stitches during his first surgery but the lasting effects of that particular injury started revealing itself not too long after. As Ion continued his slow pace braced by Zephyr, doctor Zaru looked up to the window peered into the room to see Ion's parents standing there looking on, "good they finally arrived" doctor Zaru thought to herself, "Zephyr, keep assisting Ion, help him get in a couple more laps in" she called out as Ion and Zephyr were nearing the end of the walkway, getting set to turn around and walk it again, "and Flint, keep an eye on them both and come and get me if any problems arise, I will be just outside as I need to talk over some things with Ion's parents okay" she continued in a more serious but calm tone. "Sure thing!" Flint replied, "no problem I will take care of him!" Zephyr called out as well as doctor Zaru opened the door to the room and walked outside.

"How is he doing?" doctor Zaru was asked by Ivan as she came out, "he is progressing okay, the muscle mass in his legs and arm is still lacking though and it might still be a while yet before any real progress is made on that front" she replied, "his bone growth also still has not started up again but that is mostly due to all the energy his body is using during the recovery, I know you and Ionia are taller for foxes but I would hold out Ion reaching a taller height like yourself, his growth has been stunted by this accident". The sense of worry only confounded further in Ion's mother's eyes from the response doctor Zaru's gave, to which Ivan placed his hands on her shoulder for support, "He should start growing again in the near future, once we have gotten his strength up a bit more, but there is also some other good news with his recovery" doctor Zaru continued, "Ion's incisions in his legs and arm from the surgery have almost fully healed, the incision on the side of his chest is coming along, a bit more slowly, though that is normal for where it is located..." "But what about Ion's other issue?" Ionia interrupted with a more worrying tone, "well..." doctor Zaru started replying, "the gash on his head has probably healed as much as it will, Ion's skull fracture as mended as well from his last scan we saw but..." she continued as tension started filling the air, "his headaches are getting a bit more problematic, they are coming more frequently and more painful each time, we have put him on some medication to help which has improved the frequency a bit but not the intensity." Tears started running down Ionia's eyes as Ivan started comforting her, "I see... well what are the next steps we need to take to help him with them?" Ivan calmly asked fighting back his own worry, "did we bring him home too soon? Would have this been caught earlier if we had waited a bit?". "Well I think these headaches would have come regardless of whether Ion would have had a longer hospital stay at first, he was ready to go home at that time and I still stand by that decision but readmitting him here was a good first step as we have had a neurosurgeon observing him the past few days" doctor Zaru replied, "but that is what I want to talk about with you the most" she continued as the look of worry intensified in Ion's parents. "He will be looking over Ion's scans for the next few days as we continue to do them daily, he is hoping he is able to fix Ion's issue with a regiment of medications... that will be temporary, I want to assure you of that, to get the headaches under control and help the brain heal" doctor Zaru went on, "but there is still a chance that he will have to go in surgically and... mend Ion's issue that way..." doctor Zaru finished as tears started overflowing from Ionia's eyes as she and Ivan looked on into the room as their son struggled to move his legs. "I am sorry I don't have better news..." doctor Zaru started saying, "we can hope for the best, that we can take the medication route but... it is still best that we prepare Ion for the possibility that he will have to undergo neurosurgery in the not too distant future" she finished as Ion's parents turned back towards her. "You have nothing to be sorry about" Ivan spoke out, "ever since he started having these headaches at home there was a fear that I had, that maybe Ion would have to undergo neurosurgery given my background, how long until we know what the decision will be?" "Well, he wants to give it the next three days to see how Ion's brain reacts to small doses we are giving him now and if everything goes well, then up the dosage and put him on a more rigorous regiment until he is fully healed" doctor Zaru replied, "his headaches will still be intense for at least the next few days as they come and go, but if his brain responds well then the need for surgery should be avoided."

The three adults were so immersed in their conversation that they didn't notice a commotion going on inside the rehab room, as Flint suddenly ran out the door, "Doctor Zaru! Doctor Zaru! Come quick, Ion has..." Flint didn't get to finish his sentence as doctor Zaru and Ion's parents quickly ran inside the room with Flint following, to see Ion laying on the ground, his right hand on his head and crying out in pain, Zephyr over him struggling with figuring out what to do. Doctor Zaru motioned Zephyr away from Ion, with Ionia pulling him to her side as she put her arms around both him and Flint for comfort as doctor Zaru and Ivan attended to the distressed Ion. Ivan knelt down by his son's side, moving Ion's hand away from his head with one hand and placing his other hand over his son's eyes to black out his vision, removing any visual stimuli that could contribute further to the painful headache, "It's ok Ion, just close your eyes, we are here and not going anywhere" Ivan started saying as Ion grabbed onto Ivan's hand hard with a shaky grip, squeezing it as tight as he could. Doctor Zaru quickly went to a nearby cabinet, grabbing a pump air mask and knelt down beside Ion as well, placing the mask over Ion's face, "deep breaths Ion, deep breaths" she started saying while pumping air through the mask, trying to time it with Ion's breathing, "thats it, you doing good, keep taking deep breaths" doctor Zaru continued as Ion started calming down from the pain but still letting out a small cry. "Its ok son, take all the time you need" Ivan comfortly said as Ion let go of his grip, allowing Ivan stroke his son's hair gently, "I promise we will do everything to make sure these headaches won't bother you anymore." With Ion breathing normally and calmed down, Ivan and doctor Zaru lifted him up and placed him back in his wheelchair, "I think that is enough rehabbing for today" doctor Zaru said as they got Ion seated, Ivan took his red scarf and wrapped it around Ion's eyes, being a former doctor himself, he had some knowledge with head injuries and keeping Ion's eyes in darkness for the time being would help quell the headache for now. "Zephyr, Flint, can you please take Ion back to his room and if you can, help him back into bed, Ionia and I need to finish our discussion with doctor Zaru, but we won't be too far behind" Ivan asked Ion's two friends, "yes sir!" Zephyr quickly responded followed by Flint saying "of course!" "Good, now make sure that scarf doesn't come off Ion's head" Ivan added as Zephyr and Flint nodded as they wheeled Ion out of the room and down the hall back into the patient's quarters. Ivan, Ionia and doctor Zaru regrouped themselves as each were able to breathe a small sigh of relief, "We will let him rest for now and latter on this evening or even tomorrow morning, Ionia and I will have a talk with Ion about the possible neurosurgery" Ivan started saying, "I know we need to prepare him just in case but I don't want to overstress him right now after dealing with an episode, especially with the thought of a serious surgery." "Understood" doctor Zaru answered, "you still have time anyways, even after the decision is made there will still most likely be a few days before the surgery would be performed." The stress came back to both Ivan and Ionia knowing what may lie in the road ahead for their son, "but we can still hold out hope that a medication route will be possible, there is still a chance Ion won't need the surgery" doctor Zaru said after seeing the stress come back to both Ivan and Ionia, which did cheer them up a bit. "You are right, we can't give out on hope yet" Ionia said trying to calm herself, "but what we need to do is stay strong for Ion's sake, no matter which way it will go, he needs us to be there for him and we need to show everything will be okay" she continued which just made Ivan and doctor Zaru smile. "You are right honey" Ivan said as he gave Ionia a kiss on the cheek, "now lets go see how the boys are fairing, we told them we would not be far behind and taking care of Ion can be a handful" Ivan continued, giving a small chuckle at the last part. Both Ionia and doctor Zaru nodded as the three of them left the room and walked back towards Ion's hospital room, not knowing what the immediate future would bring but poised to make sure they would get Ion through it, no matter the outcome.

He fell a few stories while doing some parkour training, hitting the ground hard in which he broke both his legs, his left arm and some ribs along with the head injury, there is no story yet of the full incident but I have mentioned it in the past in these https://inkbunny.net/s/2297278 https://inkbunny.net/s/2167989 and https://inkbunny.net/s/2443615 (including the original un-remastered story). I do plan to develop this incident more in the future so there will be a full story eventually but don't know when that will be

True but remember Ion in this incident, is at a younger age where they think they are more invincible and are more willing to take chances due to the lack of experience, he just learned the hard way
