As for this pencil ...it's real, old, heavy, and very delicate (more so than it looks). I dunno if the graphite goes through the curved portions or not, but my guess is no. ^^
It's a trip, ain't it? My best guess is it's made of some 'Epcon' derivative; it's too heavey and oddly-shaped to be of wood. Seems the arch was formed when the barrel was hot, and pressed into shape by a wedge.

I mean ... that could be given as a reason for any interest, but it doesnt explain why one person is curious about this and another is curious about that.
Granted at its most fundamental we cant explain our preferences because they are not conscious choices, but most people can at least partially verbalize why they like what they like.

... that is ... they can explain what they like about what they like ... :p
If you try to go further and ask why you like the things you like about the things you like (and so forth) ... it doesnt take long to realize you dont actually know, and your left with no better response than "you just like it".

As long as it is an interesting philosophy lecture, i'm in. (and it is) XD
I say that because the only time i had a teacher in that domain he was more like "i am right, i will teach you my truth, no discussion needed". As if it was mathematics lecture..... : (
Also, my "wild guess" are not suppose to be smart ones XP Of course there is more than simple curiosity...but it is a good start XD
Hum...i think i would add that sometimes, one of the hardest part to explain what you likes is finding the good words. Sometimes your are like "yeah that's a nice explanation of what i feel" but no....you don't like it. ^^
And then you ask yourself why you don't like it and we go back to the start ! \o/

I collect them, presently, to have new ones to feature with my ACOs.
At the beginning, I collected them just to use, at some undefined future point (this was before I was actively drawing, but knew I would want to).
Cartooning and pencils go together ...and pencils are slightly more interesting than paper (granted, there may well be plain-white-sheet collectors out there, but that's ...so niche!) ^^
Anyway, pencils have an additional appeal: there's just so many!
There's brands to consider, such as Eberhard Faber, Eagle, Ruwe, Dixon, etc., along with the model names given to these, such as Traffic, Hospital, Blackwing, etc. ...not to mention the world of advertising and novelty pencils, such as this one. ^^ And there's hardware, such as the ferrules which come in a variety of shapes and forms (I'm bidding on one now that has a Liberty Bell ferrule). ^^
There's also the barrel of the pencil, which may be made of any number of things: wood, plastic, recycled newspaper/currency, etc (I have a pencil made of recycled denim! lol).
And there's the graphite, which comes in a variety of grades, ranging from extremely soft (you can push the softest in with your finger) to hard as a stone (I can't even use the hardest ones---the lines are too light for me to see on the paper I use).
And pencils are fairly cheap: $20 USD can buy a backpack full of stubs, if one knows where to find them. But, there are very pricey and precious pencils out there for those who like to think their collecting = investing (a Henry David Thoreau pencil can sell for thousands of dollars!). :3
It's just fun. :3
I dunno that much about pencils. ^^ I collect them, presently, to have new ones to feature with my
I've honestly NEVER seen such a pencil like that in person lol. I knew they existed, but never once got to see one. This pic may be the closest I'll probably get lol

*sighs* I miss the old McDonald's. Or maybe it's because I'm a grown up and it's lost most of it's magic. But I remember when Happy Meals were a treasure that my mom bought me once a week. <:D And of course all the bright n colorful McDonald Land decor and array of characters!
No more Ronald. No more Fry Guys, Birdie or Grimmace. Not even anymore of those delicious McDonald Land cookies they use to put in the Happy Meals. So sad to see them all gone. <:( Not McDs is nothing but a cold, unfeeling shell of it's former self.
Very rad piece! hehe *sighs* I miss the old McDonald's. Or maybe it's because I'm a grown up and it
Oh my gosh, yes! <:D I love Christmas commercials in general, classic n retro or current! XD I also remember those beautiful Christmas glasses that Long John Silvers use to sell back in the day too! I own a few to this day. X3
