I've always thought it be interesting if Tails turned out to be gay (yes I know canonically he has had female crushes in recent shows like Cosmo in Sonic X and Zooey in Sonic Boom). I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think that his hero worship of Sonic might be driven by an underlying same sex attraction that Tails might himself not be aware of or understand. But what happens when Tails gets older? Eventually I think he would come to realize this and given the age difference with Sonic and the fact that Sonic is straight (at least in this story), he would want to find a boyfriend his own age.
Now I've always thought, if Tails was going to eventually have a boyfriend the most logical choice would be an artic fox. It's just different/similiar enough. This was my attempt to create an artic fox boyfriend for Tails. The main idea was to come up with some ability which was different than Tails but also tail based in some way. What I came up with is that "Avalanche" has a giant bushy tail that he can use to turn himself into a snowball and create an avalanche with. I like to think that Tails met Avalanche in the Ice Cap Zone (perhaps even during Sonic 3, though initially he didn't understand why he wanted to become friends with this artic fox).
I also attempted to give this character a "real name" in addition to his nickname "Avalanche". So just like Tails real name is "Miles", I considered the names Anton, Alexei, and Anthony for Avalanche. I think Alexei might actually be the best choice as it suggests a russian origin which fits with the snow theme.
Anyway, that was the thought behind this piece.
