Ion's father Ivan, was the first born son of the founder of the country of Norland. From birth he was trained to one day take over for his father as the overseer of the country, but he didn't really have any interest in doing so. He has a younger brother but it was always insisted that he would be the one to take over, his father was hard on him as Ivan didn't take lessons too seriously and to his father, didn't seam to understand his sacrifices so the country could be free and prosperous. In secret though, Ivan did train his skill hard and was really proficient in them but in practice, he would try to fail o that his father would abandon his determination to make him the next overseer but it all failed. Ivan's passion was in medicine and he wanted to move far away and become a doctor in a small town. His father tried to get him to abandon this dream, which only sowed further resentment but at the advice of his mother, she was able to convince Ivan's father to allow him the one freedom of actually going to medical school, so he would have a chance to see a different prospective even if it was only for a short time.
Ivan's father reluctantly agreed but with conditions, first Ivan would have to pay for it himself, part of him "finding his own way" and the second was when the time was right, he would come home and take over as the overseer of Norland. Ivan not liking the second condition, still agreed to it all as this is what he really wanted to do. He knew he could pay for it all, but taking on small mercenary contracts, as he did have the skill to do those, and his father did find out his proficiency in the sword that he tried so hard to hide. The first condition Ivan knew was a direct result of this, his father knew he would do mercenary work to pay for it all, and it would keep his skills sharp to be the overseer, the med school part would get him the people experience he needed as well. He hated the though that his father turned his dream into a way to train him but in the end it didn't matter, he was going to do what he wanted to do for a long time. So he set off and studied hard for many years, while still sharpening his skills out on contracts, though making sure not to get in the way of the Contract Hunters, he didn't want to mess around with them. While he wasn't the best student, he passed all of his classes and got his degree. Ivan moved to a small town like he always wanted and opened up a small medical practice there. After a few years, in a chance encounter, he met Freya and fell in love with her, eventually conceding a child.
But the news was not always so great, about 5 months before his son was to be born, Ivan's mother suddenly passed away and his father decided that he was no longer capable in overseeing the prosperity of Norland, and recalled Ivan back to the capital. Reluctantly Ivan closed up his practice as he did promise to return when the time was right and over the next year, the power was slowly passed over to Ivan as he became the overseer of Norland, a position he never wanted. During this time he did have a few enjoyments, a month after moving back to the capital, he married Freya, with her taking on the name Ionia-Yggdrasil as in tradition of the family name and as a way to put her past behind her. The second one was the birth of his son, Ion, which he vowed to be the father to him as the father he always wanted. Even though his mother was not there to see all this, Ivan was glad his father stayed around long enough to have these experiences with him as he did soften a bit after his mother's passing. Then when the day finally came for Ivan to take the throne for himself, his father quietly left to where his location and status are unknown. While Ivan hated his new life, he found enjoyment in his family, he know he had to train Ion to take over for him one day as well, but always made sure that he would be more encouraging in Ion's interests and desires even though he had to be hard on him sometimes. He made sure to always be there for him and let Ion know he could come to him for anything.
When Ion was 8, an unfortunate even took place in Ionia's family as her past she wanted to leave behind started catching up with her. To protect Ivan and Ion, she decided to leave them behind in the capital and return to her hometown so that no harm would be brought against them. Ivan was heartbroken at the decision but did understand and made sure to be there even more for Ion as it was only the two of them now. Ion was distraught, only knowing his mother went missing and presumed dead, Ivan couldn't tell him the truth for his protection, even though it broke him inside. Life was a bit more abnormal for a while, he had a hard time cheering Ion up but eventually things did get better. Ivan's and Ion's relationship of father and son did grow a lot over the next few years as Ivan did soften up a lot on Ion, encouraging him in a lot of his choices and even bringing him on some small mercenary contracts, as Ion had a knack for swordplay and was proficient in it. Ivan also help Ion hone his lightning skills what Ion discovered he was a lightning user, as he was one himself, a rare adept elemental type.
When Ion was 14 though another tragedy struck Ion's life when one of his best friends, Flint passed away from a rare health condition suddenly after doing so well for many years. Ion was distraught again, this time Ivan left him more space to grieve as he didn't know how to console him. Ivan abandoned his duties for a while during this time, just in case Ion needed him, as he was the most important thing in the world to him, letting the elected council handle running the country. After a few weeks, Ion, still depressed, did come to him and asked if he could go out and travel on his own in a journey of self discovery. Ivan fully agreed as he wanted to give Ion the freedoms in life he never had and he would make sure that whatever Ion discovered what he wanted to do on his journey, he would be able to fully partake without worrying about the overseer position.
After Ion left, Ivan made changes to give most of the power to the elected council but the council didn't approve of this measure before Ivan left and kind of rejected his changes, but since Ivan was persistent, they were eventually forced to take power. Ivan make the transition as smoothly as possible, though the council still retained the overseer seat for a time of crisis to the Yggdrasil family, to which Ivan agreed him or his next of kin would come back and lead if that time came and as a way to honor their liberator, Ivan's father. Ivan disappeared not too long after to whereabouts unknown, but there is a rumor of a innovative arctic fox doctor who uses lightning in his healing techniques, in a small far out Norland town.
