______________________________ SATURDAY, JULY 23rd, 1960 On that evening of July 23rd, Al Coyote was needed at the lab and research complex to assist Greg Otter and Poindexter Fox on a project. Saturday is usually not a work day at the lab, however, this particular project was the final development of an aircraft cloaking device that would enable U.S. spy planes to evade Cuban radar, thus the project was of high priority status. Al Coyote, possessing a thorough knowledge of the design and operation of the device, was a vital asset to the completion of the project's development. Al was to be at the complex for only a few hours that evening, and Marge had promised the cubs she would take them to the Orion Theater in Santa Rosa to see a movie that had debuted the day before, which coincidentally was, 'The Time Machine', staring Ron Taybor Lynx as H. G. Welson Lynx. So being that Marge needed the car for the evening, she dropped Al off at the complex and would return after the movie was over, which should be about the time Al would be getting off from work.
______________________________ At the Orion Theater in Santa Rosa, The Time Machine turned out to be a movie that Marge and the cubs really enjoyed...And needless to say, Clarence, being from the future himself, was able to identify with the character, H. His time machine looks different from my machine, doesn't it". "It was build by a different inventor is why", Marge replied. In the volcano scene where H. G. Those aren't cars from the future", Rex mentioned. "Well, no one knows what cars they'll be making six years from now", Marge replied to Rex. Jed added, "Besides, it's only six years away and those cars will still be on the road". "Clarence", Donna whispered so no one overhears. "I bet you know what 1966 cars will look like". "Those cars were way before my time", Clarence whispered back to Donna. "But I do know what a 1964 and a half Mustang and a 1964 Chevy will look like". "Mustang?", Jed questioned. "Who's gonna make those?" Finally, and old goat and his wife in the next row up turned around in their seats and the wife said to Marge Coyote, "Mame, can you please keep your cubs quiet?" The old male goat added, "The rest of us would appreciate hearing the movie". G. Lynx barely escaped in the time machine from being incinerated by molten lava. This time, he went all the way to the year 802,701.
H. G. Lynx met and encountered many animals in that future time which were mostly lynxes, including Weena who was an attractive female lynx. Despite of being so far into the future, the animals didn't possess technology, nor did they seem to have an understanding of technical things...Their way of life was somewhat primitive. H. G. Lynx also soon found out there were Murlock gorilla mutants who lived in underground caverns. And the Murlocks would lure the animals who lived above ground so they can eat them. During the movie, Marge and the cubs, as was with the rest of the audience, found it romantic that the characters H. G. Welson Lynx and Weena Lynx fell in love...and how H. G. Welson Lynx liberated the Lynxes and other animals in year 802,701 from being eaten by the Murlock gorilla mutants by burning out their underground lair.. But there was a sad part after a temple like structure belonging to the Murlock gorilla mutants was mostly destroyed.
Weena almost had the chance to come with H. G. Welson Lynx back to the year 1900, then an iron door to the temple structure shut closed separating them. Murlock Gorilla mutants began to attack H. G. Lynx with him barely escaping in the time machine, but without Weena. Just before he escaped, he shoved one of the Murlocks against a wall, thus causing a fatal head injury to the Murlock. H. G. Lynx began to go further forward in time at first, then realized it when he witnessed a time lapse of the dead Murlock rotting away...He then reversed the machine to go back in time, finally returning to January 5th, 1900. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8cRjPAgMLs Of course, there was later a brief flow of soda and crushed ice running down the floor in the direction of the screen...It often happens in movie theaters...Someone a few rows back accidentally spilled their large size soda. And because the floor in any theater is slopped, a spilled drink will always flow toward the stage and screen area. At the end of the movie, H. G. Lynx returned to the year 802701 to be with Weena Lynx, and to help the animals in the future build a society. The last dialog was between two foxes on a snowy night in the year 1900...an old female and a younger male...The old female asked if H. G. Lynx will ever return. ______________________________ Later that evening when Marge and the cubs returned to the lab complex with the car, the prototype of the radar cloaking device was completed with it testing out to meet all the performance criteria as expected. At this time, Al Coyote, Greg Otter and Poindexter Fox were chilling out at the lab for a while and having a friendly discussion about the coming 1960 presidential election. "I have to paw it to Johan Kenden Otter, he is quite a maverick", Greg Otter mentioned. "Provided he's won the Democratic primary, Marge and I are voting for him", Al replied as he let Marge and the cubs into the laboratory building...Being Marge doesn't work there, she has no entry code to gain access into the building, so the only way in was for Al to let them in. "We saw a movie with a neat time machine!", Rex exclaimed as Marge and the cubs came inside. "Sounds interesting", Poindexter added. "It has a big spinning wheel on the back of it! And it looked like a sled!", Donna exclaimed. "That's Hollywood", Al commented as he, Greg and Poindexter chuckled. "Aw, you guys ragging about Hollywood", Marge said. "The cubs did enjoy the movie". "Yeah. It didn't look anything like my time machine", Clarence mentioned. Greg Otter did mention to Clarence, "Don't forget. Not your time machine. It's my understanding it's property of the U.S. military when you took off in it from the 21st century". "He is right, Clarence", Al Coyote agreed with Greg Otter. "We've been having a chat about the upcoming presidential election", Poindexter mentioned to Marge. "Mind if I ask who you're voting for?", Marge asked Poindexter. "Johan Kenden Otter, of course", Poindexter replied. "Oh, that young candidate has such a charismatic fursonality", Marge said as the other adults agreed. "According to what he says he envisions, this nation of ours should have a great future ahead", said Al. "I'd wager a bet with anyone who says he won't win the election". "I'm on the same page with you, Al. I'm willing to bet Johan Otter will be our next president", Greg Otter said, continuing the political conversation. Then Clarence spoke up, "Yeah but...He's gonna get shot". "CLARENCE! I'm shocked at you for saying such a thing!", Marge scolded. "Clarence! That was uncalled for!", Al snapped off at Clarence. Clarence then said, "No. It's actually gonna happen. It will be in 1963. Somewhere in Texas, I think". "Woah. Hold up, hold up, hold up", Poindexter intervened, then asked Clarence, "Clarence. This is something you have already known, isn't it?" "We learned that in history class", Clarence affirmed. "I mean, in history class in the day and time I'm from". "WOW!", Greg Otter exclaimed. "Clarence. My apologies for coming down on you", Marge said, then asked, "What can we do? Shouldn't somebody know?". "Al answered, "Well...We can't just go to the authorities and say, hey look, we got a son who's from the future and knows our next president will be assassinated three years from now". "I can only imagine how that would come off sounding", Greg added. "We can figure out something to stop it, can't we?", Jed suggested. "There's nothing we can do", Poindexter replied. "For one thing, this is a future event that was not yet meant to be known". "There must be something we can do", Marge insisted. Poindexter then said, "Events in the future that are not yet revealed are best left alone...Besides that. Do you have any clue how the government would react to someone coming forward with the claim that our next president will be shot three years from now?...You do know how it sounded when Clarence first told us". "That would have a way of putting someone in a very awkward position", Al agreed. "The Secret Service would come down like a ton of bricks on anyone trying to convince them of what we already know", said Greg Otter. "Someone trying to tell the authorities that information would be taken to Leavenworth or Alcatraz so fast it would make their head spin", Poindexter Fox added. Al then acknowledged. "We can only hope this next president does do a lot of good in his three years of office before it does happen". Al then apologized to Clarence for snapping off at him moments earlier. After which, the adults agreed, and it was made clear to the cubs, that any knowledge of a presidential assassination yet to happen in 1963 is not to be mentioned to anyone, no way, no form, no how. "And don't be placing bets that Johan F. Kenden Otter will win the election in November", Marge said to Al. "Those wouldn't be fair bets being that we now already know". Al agreed with Marge, knowing that if you are going to wage a bet, a bet should be one that is fair to all involved. The adults then conversed a while more as the cubs observed "the cool stuff" in the laboratory before everyone left to go home for the night. Al, Marge and the cubs didn't want to stay out too late anyway. Out at the church tomorrow after Sunday morning services, they were having a dinner and fellowship social that afternoon...which was planned as an indoor event being that thunderstorms were expected that Sunday. In fact, late that Saturday night after Al, Marge and the cubs were at home, you could look west from their community of Duran and barely see storm clouds on the distant horizon lighting up with lightning flashes, still from very far away...That was the storm system that was expected to be there Sunday morning.[/b][/color]
______________________________ A 2nd car would have been useful that night...And as for that brand new Plymouth, nine passenger station wagon Al and Marge had ordered, it was built in Detroit, Michigan five days ago on Monday, the 18th. The car had been in transit among a shipment of other cars via railroad during the past week, and on that Saturday the 23rd was in Denver, Colorado to be delivered by via truck to the dealership.
______________________________ THE PAST WEEK FROM MONDAY, JULY 18TH THRU SATURDAY, JULY 23RD The journey began from Detroit, where the station wagon that Al and Marge ordered was loaded with a shipment of other brand new cars aboard a railway auto carrier to be transported part of the way via Baltimore and Ohio Railroad aboard a train pulled by two locomotives...That B&O train's locomotive crew consisted of; a hyena who, being a long time veteran of the B&O Railroad, was the operator in charge, and a European bear who was the assistant. The caboose crew consisted of a fox and a raccoon. The train, along with it's dozen auto carriers, made a stop along the way to pick up a shipment of Stubebakers from a factory in Indiana, then went as far as St. Louis, Missouri. That was the end of the line for the B&O...the furthest point west the B&O Railroad went. From St. Louis, several auto carriers were dropped off and coupled to a southbound train enroute to destinations in Arkansas and Louisiana. The rest of the carriers, including the one Al and Marge's Plymouth was aboard, continued the journey westbound via Union Pacific Railroad. The locomotive of that particular UP train was a unique one...It was one of the few gas turbine locomotives that were specially built for Union Pacific...Those locomotives were always in a configuration of three units; a lead unit which didn't actually supply the power to pull the train... The utility looking unit which followed the lead unit was the actual locomotive, controlled from the cab of the lead unit... and a large, fuel tank car (the gas turbos were not fuel efficient, hence why UP would phase them out of service 10 years later). The actual locomotive supplied the power for it's own traction motors, as well as for the traction motors under the lead unit. It didn't even sound like a regular diesel locomotive when going by, rather those sounded more like a jet plane. https://youtu.be/spngeetQfRI?t=174 The locomotive crew was a Native American wolverine who was the operator, and a Russian descent wolf as the assistant. The caboose crew was a opossum and a kinkajou. The UP train made a stop in Kansas City, Missouri to drop off a few auto carriers so several loads of Plymouths and Ford Falcons could be offloaded onto car carrier trucks to continue their journey by highway to their destined dealerships. A day later, another westbound Union Pacific train picked up the auto carriers and they were again on their way. This train had three conventional locomotives instead of the turbo configuration that pulled the train the day before. The crew for this train was; a European otter as the operator, a fox as the assistant, and a skunk and a mongoose as the caboose crew. The final leg of the journey by rail for Al and Marge's station wagon ended at Denver, Colorado. The train made a stop in Denver drop off three auto carriers, including the auto carrier Al and Marge's car was on. After the train left to continue on to Salt lake city, the automobiles that were dropped off were loaded onto car carrier tractor trailer trucks to be hauled by highway to their various destinations. That Saturday evening of the 23rd while Marge took the cubs to see the movie, The Time Machine, in Santa Rosa while Al was assisting on the project at the lab, their Plymouth wagon was just beginning it's way out of Denver aboard a car carrier semi tractor trailer rig southbound on Highway 285...That was of course after the truck driver, Sheldon Timber Wolf, had supper at a local truck stop there south of Denver...Joe Wildcat's Truckstop and Cafe' ...Then before Sheldon got his rig rolling along 285, he got a large cup of coffee, black with no sugar, to go.
With a large cup of coffee and the radio playing low, it was 7 o'clock in the evening when Sheldon Timber Wolf headed out on Highway 285 in his independently owned, 1959 Mack with double stick shift, and towing the auto carrier trailer with a shipment of seven, brand new, 1960 Plymouths that Great West Auto Transport had contracted him to haul...Six cars were aboard the trailer, and a green, 4 door Savoy was on a rack built over the cab of Sheldon's truck. Although Highway 87 would have been a less mountainous route, Sheldon's first stop was to be at Lester Fox's Shop 'n' Drive Dodge Plymouth, which was south of Antonito Colorado (two miles from the New Mexico border) where Sheldon was scheduled to deliver two cars early that Sunday morning. To be coming down the less mountainous Highway 87 would have put Sheldon far out of his way, thus Highway 285 was the best route to take. Of course, on that route was the infamous Carnage Curve, which was a dangerous curve that had over the years well earned that name...On one side of the curve is a mountain wall, and on the other side a several hundred foot sheer drop off right up at the edge of the road.
There were 10 miles of hilly straightaway well before Carnage Curve. The long straightaway had a few abrupt hill crests that when you topped over them at the normal 50 and 60 mph, there was a floating sensation that made you feel like you had butterflies in your gut...That straightaway had the reputation of being a stretch of road that teenagers like to high speed thrill ride on.

That way, after sleeping that night in Antonito, he can unload the two cars that Lester Fox's dealership is getting first thing early Sunday morning. Thus, Sheldon had planned to be driving till well past midnight before arriving in Antonito. That coffee Sheldon got to go at the truck stop out of Denver had gotten cold a long time ago. It was already getting late into Saturday night by the time Sheldon Wolf was driving on that 10 mile stretch of hilly straight highway approaching Carnage Curve... However, Sheldon is familiar with that curve as he has driven around it many times before. The last two miles beyond the straightaway prior to arriving to Carnage Curve, the highway becomes winding, and also has small knolls. Teenagers might get by with racing their hot rod cars at high speeds around those curves with tires screaming against the pavement on that 2 mile stretch of winding road. But it's a different story for big trucks... Big rigs, especially loaded, can't take that stretch any faster than about 40 mph. Thus, Sheldon slowed down his rig to 40 mph. During that two mile winding approach to Carnage Curve, a jazzy song by the Champs, titled Gone Train, had been playing on the radio. The song was close to finishing up as Sheldon Wolf rounded Carnage Curve just before slowing down to downshift for a steep downgrade not very far ahead.
During the last 40 minutes or so of driving through the night before arriving to Antonito, Sheldon Wolf noticed clouds lighting up with lightning flashes on the western horizon. Those storm clouds were nowhere near where Sheldon was driving along Highway 285 on that warm July night. The lightning flashes in the night sky were still a long way off on the horizon. Shortly past midnight, Sheldon Wolf finally arrived coming through Antonito. Only a few miles further down Highway 285, Sheldon arrived to an empty field next to Lester Fox's Shop 'n' Drive Dodge Plymouth, which was only a couple of miles from the New Mexico border. Needless to say, that late at night the dealership was closed. So it was in the empty field that Sheldon Wolf parked his rig and got some sleep for the night.
______________________________ SUNDAY, JULY 24th, 1960 Early Sunday morning, stormy weather was not far off as Lester Fox and a couple of his sales associates prepared to open the dealership. Sheldon Wolf drove his rig from the field over to the car lot to deliver the two cars they were getting. That thunderstorm system Sheldon Wolf had been noticing on the horizon during the night on his way into Antonito was now about to move into the area. "Heyyyy, Sheldon. Howzit goin?", Lester Fox greeted. "Going good as it gets", Sheldon replied as he stepped out of the truck. "I think we're in for some rough weather", Lester said as he looked over at the approaching storm. "I've been seeing that storm out on the horizon last night on my way down 285", said Sheldon. Though the storm system was well on it's way there, it still was not yet close enough for thunder to be heard. "Well...Looks like there they are", Lester Fox mentioned of the two cars his dealership is getting. "The white wagon, and the blue and white two door on the back end", Sheldon Wolf affirmed. Being that the power for the trailer's hydraulic system ran from truck's electrical system, Sheldon Wolf would leave his truck idling during unloading operations as not to run the truck's batteries down. One of the cars to delivered was a white, 2 door, Plymouth Savoy station wagon with very little optional equipment, hub caps instead of full wheel covers, and equipped with a 225 slant 6, and a "3 on the tree" manual transmission...It was a budget low price station wagon... ...The other car was a dark blue and white, 2 door Belvedere, with full wheel covers and white wall tires, and equipped with a 318 V-8 without super pack option (2 barrel and single exhaust) and automatic transmission...That car was on the back end of the top tier of the carrier, thus, in order to offloaded it, Al and Marge's station wagon, being midway of the bottom tier, had to be temporarily offloaded to be out of the way of the rear two thirds of the top tier that hydraulically lowered as a ramp.
"Wow, that's a fancy wagon", one of Lester Fox's sales associates, James Otter, commented on Al and Marge's station wagon. "It's got a Golden Commando V-8 in it too", Sheldon Wolf added. "We're getting that car too?", another sales associate, Dewey Kinkajou, asked. "I wish", Lester Fox replied. "Not very many cars like that one sell around these parts". "That one's going back on the carrier. It's a special order going to Albuquerque. I had to get it off the carrier to clear the way to lower the top deck.", Sheldon Wolf said as he began raising the hydraulic portion of the top tier back up to get Al and Marge's station wagon back aboard the carrier. "Looks like that car should have been loaded on top", Lester Fox mentioned, referring to Al and Marge's wagon. "It should have. I could have taken both of your cars from the bottom, then lowered the rear deck.", Sheldon Wolf replied. "But some of Great West's loaders at the Denver rail yard don't always listen to instructions". "I know it sure would have made your job easier", said Lester Fox. "Believe me. There are two of those airhead yard workers I know of who I'd like to give a swift kick in the ass to", Sheldon Wolf added. "Ha ha. I hear ya", Lester Fox agreed. "I know there's a good commission for who ever in Albuquerque sold that wagon", James Otter said as Sheldon Wolf was driving the wagon back onto the carrier. "No kidding. That's[/b] for sure", Dewey Kinkajou replied. With the two cars delivered and paper work taken care of, Al and Marge's station wagon loaded and secured back onto the carrier, Sheldon Wolf went to have breakfast at a cafe' in Antonito. After breakfast, Sheldon got a large coffee to go, then set out in route to his next stop, which was Albuquerque Chrysler Plymouth in Albuquerque.
As Sheldon Wolf continued on his way through New Mexico, he finally encountered the thunderstorms, with one storm in particular being a really bad one with heavy rain, high winds and lots of lightning... Well, anyway, the rain did wash off the ballast dust the cars had picked up along the railroad portion of their journey...Fortunately, there was no hail in any of those storms. Not only would hail have been no good for Sheldon Wolf's truck, five brand new cars still yet to be delivered being pelted with hail would have been a bad thing. Around shortly after noon, a thunderstorm was still rageing with some rain and lots of lightning when Sheldon Wolf came pulling in with the car carrier rig at Albuquerque Chrysler Plymouth in Albuquerque...That is the dealership where Al and Marge will take possession of their brand new, Plymouth, nine passenger station wagon equipped with automatic transmission and 395 Golden Commando V-8 Sheldon waited for about 20 minutes for the storm to pass before unloading any cars...After all, being up on that car carrier trailer with lightning popping around would be a good way to get struck. Finally, after the storm had passed out of the area, it was safe to be up on the trailer to unload cars...The first of three cars to be offloaded was Al and Marge's station wagon, which was on the bottom tier of the carrier. "It's finally arrived", said sales associate Dave Pine Martin, who took the order from Al and Marge back in June. "You'll make a good commission on that[/b] one, Dave", said sales associate Clifton Bear. "Yes I will. Though I am giving them a break on the price being they bought that Chrysler 300 from me back in January". Dave Pine Martin then went to phone Al and Marge to tell them that their station wagon had arrived...Because Al, Marge and the cubs were still at the dinner and fellowship social their church was having that day, no one was at the house to answer the phone...However, Dave did figure Al, Marge and the cubs were apparently out somewhere. When Dave came back outside, Clifton Bear asked him, "They're picking it up today?" "No one answered. This being Sunday, they might be in church.", Dave Pine Martin replied. "This late? It's past noon", Clifton added. "Could also be one of those thunderstorms going on at their place, and they don't want to be on the phone", said Dave. "I'll try again later". "I came through a really bad[/b] thunderstorm just before I got to Espanola", Sheldon Wolf mentioned. "Oh yea" said Clifton. "I didn't think about that. Don't want to be on a phone with lightning around". After Al and Marge Coyote's station wagon was unloaded, the two other cars, which were on the top tier of the carrier, were also unloaded for dealership inventory...One of which was a red and white Fury convertible, with white wall tires and rear fender skirts, automatic transmission, and equipped with a 318 V-8 with the "super pack" option (4 barrel, double exhaust and performance cam)... "Hey, check out the rag top", Clifton Bear commented on the convertible. "Wow, the up-most. Now that's riddin' in style, Daddyo", said sales associate Jenny Ferret. "You'd be the envy on Sunset Strip with that car", Dave Pine Martin mentioned as everyone agreed. They weren't about to put the top down just yet being that more thunderstorms were expected. ...The other car was a 2 door, gold and white Fury with the fastback "sky high" rear window option, automatic transmission, and equipped with a 395 Golden Commando V-8.
After the cars were unloaded, paperwork signed, and after having lunch in Albuquerque, Sheldon Wolf set out for his final stop of that run which was Shep Wolverine Chrysler Plymouth in Las Cruces, 50 miles from the Mexican border...
...To ensure making it to Las Cruces before Shep Wolverine Chrysler Plymouth closed come night time, Sheldon Wolf had his CB radio turned on listening for warnings of speed traps...Much of the highway on that part of the journey was level straight road, thus 85 mph presented no problem. As Sheldon Wolf continued south with the last two remaining cars to be delivered, he had left that thunderstorm weather system behind and it was sunny and clear. And after sunset, it was good driving conditions the rest of the way to Las Cruces that evening.
It was a while before 8:00 that Sunday evening when Sheldon Wolf arrived at Shep Wolverine Chrysler Plymouth in Las Cruces (with 25 minutes to spare before closing time) to deliver the last two remaining cars left on his load...One car was special ordered by a coatimundi couple, being a black and gold, 2 door Fury with the fastback "sky high" rear window option, and swivel front bucket seats, power windows, many other options and equipped with a Sonoramic Commando, dual quad, 383 V-8, which was available only with a heavy duty automatic transmission. "That Fury Sonoramic Kevin ordered for Benny Coatimundi and his wife. It's here", a sales associate, Lloyd Fox, called to the dealership owner, Shep Wolverine, as Sheldon Wolf was backing it off of the car carrier. "Boy, that sure is a pretty car", said Shep after he walked out of the showroom to come outside and have a look at the car still on the carrier. "Kevin Meerkat is making a good commission on this one", said Lloyd Fox. "I know Kevin will be one happy meerkat to see it here tomorrow morning", Shep added. "So will his customers", Lloyd Fox replied as everyone agreed. Once Sheldon Wolf had the bottom hydraulic carrier decks lined up in order to back the car to the rear deck, then got in and started it up, it had that hot rod sound that wasn't like that of any ordinary car. "That's a sound of a really hot car, I must say", Shep Wolverine proudly said. "I can picture myself in one of those babies. Vroom vroom", another sales associate, Herbert Raccoon, said as he raised his paws, pretending to be holding onto a steering wheel. "Bet it will do 130, and then[/b] some", said Shep Wolverine. "Mama's nightmare and a high school cub's delight", Lloyd Fox remarked as everyone laughed. "Sounds like my kind of car", said Herbert Raccoon. "Seen the price sticker, Herb?", Sheldon Wolf called out to Herbert Raccoon as as he got back out of the car to go tilt the rear deck up to line up with the tail ramps so the car doesn't bottom on the edge of the carrier. "Close to five grand", Shep Wolverine added, already knowing the price of the car. "Well, not my kind of price anyway", Herbert Raccoon admitted, then added as everyone chuckled, "Unless I was the one selling that car". With the bottom rear carrier deck tilted to line up with the tail ramps, Sheldon Wolf walked up the left tail ramp and onto the inclined rear deck to get into the car. And again, everyone was impressed with the way that car sounded when Sheldon started it up. As Sheldon was finally backing the car off the carrier ramps and onto the pavement, Shep Wolverine called out to Sheldon, "How about giving it a rev, Sheldon". Once Sheldon Wolf got the car off the carrier, he pushed the neutral button on the dash (push button transmission) and goosed the accelerator. >VROOOM< that Sonoramic Commando engine sounded off like a hot rod. "I love that sound", said Shep Wolverine. They even raised the hood to have a look at that dual quad Sonoramic Commando 383. "Wow! Now that's what I call a wild engine!", Lloyd Fox exclaimed as everyone beheld the Sonoramic Commando engine with it's two 4 bbl carburetors and cross ram intake manifolds. "Not many of these are equipped with this motor", said Shep Wolverine. "That's what I've been told", Sheldon Wolf replied. "Less than two thousand Plymouths have the Sonoramic Commando for the 1960 model year so far", Shep added. "So I take it the couple buying this car won't get a discount", Sheldon jested. "Oh, when a dealership gets a car like this one, it doesn't get marked down", Shep Wolverine assured Sheldon Wolf. "In fact, some dealerships will even mark a car like this one above the manufacturer's price". The coatimundi couple who ordered that car were paying close to $5,000 plus destination fee for it...With the Sonoramic Commando 383, and all the other options ordered, it was by no means a low cost model. ...The other car was a green, 4 door Savoy, with no optional equipment, and had a 225 slant 6, and a "3 on the tree" manual transmission. It didn't even come with a radio, cigarette lighter, or back up lights (back up lights not D.O.T. required back then), and had hubcaps instead of full wheel covers. It was a bottom of the line, basic, budget price car (That car had an MSRP of $2,310 plus destination fee). Some of the sales animals did make fun of that green colour. That car was on the deck over the tractor. To get it off the carrier, Sheldon Wolf positioned the carrier's top decks lined up, then climbed the ladder bars on the side of the trailer... ...Then he shoved two bridge sections from the top front deck of the trailer out to the deck over the tractor. The bridge sections, which belonged to Sheldon Wolf, were long enough to where more of them rested on the trailer that what actually bridged over to the tractor... That was for weight balance so they don't fall down between the tractor and trailer like short sections would have a tendency to do while attempting to shove them into place. And when not in use, Sheldon kept them stored secured down the center of the top front trailer deck... ...After unchaining the car, he backed it over the bridge sections and to the back end of the rear top trailer deck, then firmly set the parking brake... ...Sheldon then climbed back down to the hydraulic controls and positioned the rear decks so the top rear deck was in a ramp position lined up with the tail ramps... ...Then Sheldon walked up the left tail ramp and onto the inclined rear deck, and got in the car, started it up, released the parking with a foot firmly on the regular brake petal, and backed it down the ramps off of the carrier...Of course the sound that car made was the whinny six cylinder sound.
"Oh dig that lovely colour green", Lloyd Fox jested, getting a laugh from everyone as Sheldon Wolf finally backed the car onto the pavement. "I only deliver what they give me", Sheldon Wolf said with a laugh as he stepped out of the car after backing it off of the carrier. "That's what Chrysler gave us?". Not exactly an easy colour to move off the lot", Herbert Raccoon added. Shep Wolverine, confidently mentioned, "I'm sure anyone buying a car in that price range won't be too worried about the colour". Shep Wolverine's dealership staff ordered that one for their inventory being that Shep's biggest success has been selling cars in the low budget price range. At around 8:50 pm, after those last two cars were delivered and all the paperwork signed, Sheldon Wolf decided to have supper at Janet 'n' Moe's Diner 24, a favorite all night diner he likes to go to when ever he's in Las Cruces, which was not far down the main highway from the dealership. "My sales team and I often go there for lunch break", Shep Wolverine said to Sheldon. "It's the best restaurant in town". "I go there every time I'm down this way", Sheldon replied as everyone bid 'good evening' just before Sheldon left on his way to the diner.
______________________________ MONDAY, JULY 25th, 1960 Early Monday morning, Sheldon Wolf awoke in the truck's sleeper to the sound of thunder and rain. "That damn storm musta followed me down here from Albuquerque last night", Sheldon Wolf said as he got up to take the walk from the truck parking area to the truck stop's cafe' for some breakfast and coffee. After breakfast, Sheldon Wolf made a call home on a pay phone at the truck stop to let his wife, Tammy, know that he had delivered the last of the cars on that load in Las Cruces, New Mexico the night before, and was starting his return trip home that morning back to Denver. The cubs, Gwen and Jeremiah, were also thrilled to hear from Daddy. Five minutes into the phone call, the operator, a female otter, came on the line and said, "If you want to continue this call, I'll need for you to deposit ten cents for the next five minutes". "Okay, I got it", Sheldon Wolf said as he got a dime from his clip on wallet and placed it into the money slot of the pay phone. "Thank you, Sir", the operator replied as she authorized another five minutes. At the end of the phone call, Sheldon and Tammy signed off with their usual, "Love you". After the phone call home, it was get a shower from the truck stop's shower facility, and fuel up the truck for the return trip, get a large coffee to go, then back home to Denver, Colorado to be with family and friends for a few days (including some quality time with his wife, Tammy, of course) before making another run...And on this run, Daddy Sheldon Wolf brought back some border town souvenirs from a tourist stop in Las Cruces for cubs, Gwen and Jeremiah. The return trip home from Las Cruces to Denver is an all day drive, thus, Sheldon Wolf would arrive home a while before midnight that Monday, thus making that run being two days plus a few hours on the road since he had left Saturday evening...Needless to say, when Sheldon Wolf got home after midnight, Sheldon and Tammy had an awesome time in bed together that night. The life of a truck driver can sometimes be a little rough, but Sheldon Wolf would never trade driving a truck for any other occupation...For some truck drivers, Sheldon Wolf included, truck driving is in their blood, and they wouldn't be happy doing anything else. ______________________________ It was also in the morning that Monday that Dave Pine Martin was able to reach Al and Marge Coyote by phone to let them know their new, Fury, nine passenger, station wagon had arrived...which Al, Marge and the cubs were delighted to hear. Al would be leaving for work at the Horizon Innovations Laboratory complex later that morning, so arrangements were made with Dave for the family to drop by at the dealership to pick up the station wagon that evening after Al got off from work. It was also on that Monday morning that Poindexter Fox's uncle, Professor Nickolas Fox, along with his top two scientist assistants, Lola Binturong and Daren Margay, had arrived on another trip from Area 51 to continue assisting with repair work efforts on the Project Courier time machine. By now, Professor Nickolas Fox, Lola Binturong, Daren Margay, Greg Otter, Harold Wolf, Lenard Wolverine and Woodrow Raccoon have been making good progress with the repair efforts on the time machine. The machine was still concealed in that utility building built around it off of Highway 54, north of Duran, where it had landed carrying Clarence Coyote to 1960. Several vacuum tube assemblies had already been constructed to replace the burnt out circut boards. And even though identical circuit board replacements were not possible with 1960 technology, the scientists were sure the vacuum tube assembly replacements will work. Although those assemblies looked very much like strange versions of those old radio and TV tube assemblies back in the day, the time machine with those vacuum tube assemblies installed in it would be what gets Clarence Coyote back home to the 21st Century where he could be reunited with his original family and friends. Clarence's step parents, Al and Marge, and step siblings, Jed, Rex and Donna, said they will miss Clarence, but at the same time will feel happy for him that he'll finally be going back home. Frank and Wanda Coyote's youngest daughter, Cheryl, will miss Clarence also...Cheryl and Clarence have been sweethearts in love with each other not long after Clarence's arrival to 1960 back in February...By now, that love between them was pretty deep and heart felt strong...By the way, Clarence had mentioned he will miss Cheryl also. In fact, just about everyone who had gotten to know Clarence during his several months in 1960, and are aware that he is from the future, said they'll miss him once he's gone back home. Clarence had made lots of friends in 1960 and he already knew he was going to miss them also. Some had even said, "It feels like Clarence has always been with us". Of course, even though the year 2018 had not yet existed in 1960, they'll be a coyote family 58 years in the future who will be so happy to see their boy back home with them again...And Clarence will be so happy to be back home with them too.
______________________________ As for those other new cars that continued their journey westbound out of Denver via Union Pacific Railroad that past Saturday morning, they continued to Salt Lake City where the railway auto carriers were picked up and taken the rest of the way by the Western Pacific Railroad. That WP train, which had two locomotives, had an all feline crew; a cheetah who was the locomotive operator, a cougar who was the assistant, and a lynx and a bobcat as the caboose crew. During that past weekend, the Western Pacific train had taken the remaining automobiles, including all the Studebakers the B&O train picked up in Indiana, from out of Salt Lake City, Utah to Oakland, California. That Monday morning, those cars were already being unloaded in Oakland from the railway auto carriers and onto auto carrier trucks, via West Coast Motor Car Carriers Inc. (WCMCC), bound for various dealerships in California and Oregon.
______________________________ WHAT WOULD BE IN THE COMING WEEKS As for that 4 door, green Savoy that Shep Wolverine Chrysler Plymouth received...During the time before that car finally sold, the sales animals at the dealership, including Lloyd Fox, Herbert Raccoon, Kevin Meerkat and others, affectionately dubbed that car "The Green Goblin". Eventually, a family of Navajo cougars would come along and purchase that green Savoy. "Herbert Raccoon finally got The Green Goblin sold", other sales animals jested. "Okay. Not too loud", Shep Wolverine said to the others. "We don't want to kill the sale". At the time the cougar family bought that car, they traded in a 1947, rusted out Ford sedan that barely ran and pieces begun falling off of it a long time ago. Herbert Raccoon, the sales animal who sold the cougars that car, allowed the Cougar Family $35 as trade on their old Ford. The family accepted the $35 as trade being they figured that old Ford in the condition it was in wouldn't fetch even that if they had tried to sell it themselves as private party. Herbert Raccoon assured the Cougar Family, "That old Ford won't go up for sale on this lot. We'll be taking that one to the used car dealer's auction". "It will end up being a shake, rattle 'n' run special on a buy here - pay here lot", Shep Wolverine added. "I have to admit, I'll feel sorry for who ever buys that old Ford", Daddy Navajo Cougar said as he, his family, Herbert Raccoon and Shep Wolverine laughed. The Navajo Cougar Family had the cash to buy the new Plymouth outright without there being the need to finance, thus, Shep Wolverine gave them an additional $75 discount, bringing the price down to $2,200 plus destination fee (Shep still agreed to allow Herbert the full price commission). To sweeten the deal because of the green colour, Shep Wolverine (he being a Native American species himself) offered the family a free set of rear, chrome, stone guards which are standard on Fury models and optional on the Belvedere and Savoy models...By golly, that basic green Savoy looked really spiffy with those stone guards, and when that Navajo cougar family returned to their little rural community with their new car, their friends, neighbors and relatives were quite impressed with such a "cool looking car".
It would be a month later when the Cougar Family would have custom, amber and maroon, pen stripe lines painted on their car...which would give it a nice balanced out look with the stone guards...
...It would be in the following year of 1961 that Daddy Cougar would have an aftermarket radio installed in the car, which would be a treat the cubs would be thrilled with. By the way, that old 1947 Ford the cougars traded in did sell for $58 on a used car lot, without there being much profit made by anyone on it. The condition that old Ford was in was no issue to the tayra who bought it, being that he and his two brothers rebuilt that old Ford into a stock racing car to take out to the local dirt track.
As for that gold and black Fury with the Sonoramic Commando 383 the coatimundi couple had Kevin Meerkat order for them...We could safely say that coatimundi couple were the baddest thing hot rodding out on the open highways outside of Las Cruces since they took delivery of that car...They never were caught by the police who patrolled the highways though...Lucky I guess.
And for Al and Marge Coyote and the cubs, it was nice now having two cars...The Chrysler 300, and the Plymouth Fury 9 passenger station wagon.
Marge treats the cubs to a movie while Al is called into work...Hence why it is good the Coyote Family are getting a 2nd car. The year is 1960, which is a U.S. presidential election year...Clarence, being from the 21st Century, tells what he had learned in history class about the fate of the next president. This is also the time the new, Plymouth Fury, 9 passenger Station wagon that Al and Marge ordered arrives at the dealership.
