It is in July of 1960, in the small community of Duran, New Mexico. Ryan Lynx is mowing the grass for Mom and Dad to earn some extra allowance money.
The mower is a reel style mower (meaning that it has a reel with spiral blades instead of a straight spinning blade).
Ryan's dad changed out the wood portion of the push handle to make it shorter, so it would be easier for someone the height of a cub to use the mower...The original handle section is propped against the steps. When Ryan is finished with the chore of mowing the lawn, Daddy will switch out the handle back to the longer length (all it takes is four bolts, nuts and washers).
The mower is also a type that is not powered. The blade reel is turned by a series of gears from the wheels as the mower is pushed along...However, the mower in the paws if an ambitious worker does get the job done, as can be seen in pic #2.

BTW, The foliage on the other side of the house trailer is never mowed, thus Ryan Lynx will not have to deal with that.
