I made a joke on Twitter and someone felt a need to educate me on its proper use...

Friend, it's a joke. I'm sorry if you think it's somehow locked to use only by a specific group of people. And maybe I'm a bit of a dick for using my free time at work this morning to make this rather than work on something that I need to finish. But hey, the bright side is I now have something I can use whenever someone takes something I say too literally.

Someone made a tweet about how, if you're a cis guy and you're crush is trans, then you are not straight. To which, I replied, "I'm not gay, but my boyfriend is!" At this point, someone else joined in to "explain" that my joke was used by gay/bi/pan men and not to describe "heteroflexible" people.

Doesn't even sound rude or anything. My last boyfriend was bi, so technically he wasn't gay but his boyfriend was. It's just accurate to say.
I swear it's just people trying to play the victim for pity points these days. Trying to make everything offensive and off limits to say. :<

This makes sense. Seems people still don't like that bi people are a thing. So stupid that people make out that you have to be one or the other.

I could say the same. "I'm not gay and neither is my Bf" Which is true. We are both bi. And people would probably get super pissy at it.
