"Bleh!"
The youngster stuck her tongue out at her older sibling, half heartedly trying to emulate the bared-toothed snarl.
The older sibling groaned, "Why aren't you taking any of this seriously? I know you don't WANT to be a Hellhound, but that's what you are!"
"I know. But I don't WANT to be scary! I want to be a nymph! Or a fairy!"
Her elder sighed, "You know that'll only happen if you can get a god to be your patron. And there hasn't been a god in this realm is over 50,000 years."
The Hellpup didn't care. She had heard that the fairies in the realm had once been lesser demons like herself and believed their patron god was still in the realm. She just had to find it.
"Look, you were born a Hellhound, just like me. Mom is, Grams is, Great Grammy is. You're acting like you're ashamed!" She leaned down to her little sister, "You should at least try it." She smiled, "Maybe you will find your elusive god one day, but you need to be ready to live this way just in case, alright?"
The little one frowned. Her sister was right, even if she didn't want to believe it.
The big sister sat back, "Now show me some teeth, okay?" She curled her lips back into a snarl, "Ike iss."
"Bleh!"
--------------------------------
So this is something I came up with not too long ago and have been working on for a few days now. I've been wanting to come up with a story I could use as a webcomic ever since I started my whole Airedale universe. (Something more geared to the average fan.)
The idea I'm working on involves these two still unnamed characters. They're Hellhounds; lesser demons in a parallel realm that most would call Hell. In this story, Hell is run similar to Monsters, Inc. See, people in other realms will summon demons and have them perform tasks in exchange for things like gems, precious metals, blood, bones, and intangible things like the summoner's last breath or two years of happiness.
The landscape of Hell is pretty much what you'd think. Lava, rocky outcroppings, ancient Gothic structures, etc. Except they've started to modernize. There's a large tower called Summoner's Tower where different levels of demons are all employed to be summoned by the different realms of the multiverse. The lower floors are for the lesser demons like Hellhounds, Imps, and Gremlins. I haven't really fleshed out the hierarchy, but moving up would be your Liches, Chimeras, and Dragons towards the top.
Well, the older sister works in Summoner's Tower. One day, she brings her little sister in to see how the whole summoning and exchange process work. In the lobby, embedded in the floor, is an ancient summoning circle carved in stone. (Modern summoning circles are created using variable light surfaces that can be changed to match the counterpart circle without having to be carved into a new block of stone.) This ancient circle has not been used in over 100,000 years and the lead summoners have deemed it completely inert and safe to use for decorative purposes. So as the older sister is getting clearance for her little sister to tour the summoning floors, this inert circle suddenly activates, trapping the pup inside! Panic ensues as all demons in the lobby (including a very powerful dragon) attempt to break the seal and rescue the trapped girl. But their efforts were for naught, as the little sister is engulfed in Hellfire, whisked away to an unknown destination.
The pup, it turns out, is sent to the Mortal Realm; a realm analogous to our own. A realm where "magic" has been long forgotten and believed to be only a myth. The circle was drawn by a group of college students who, in a drunken state, thought it'd be fun to try and summon Satan. So they look up some stuff on the internet, make some mistakes in the circle that turns out to actually be CORRECTIONS, and successfully summon a demon! Just, not quite what they were expecting...
