During my stream wind-down sketch session, someone asked I draw Florence Ambrose. I mentioned that I haven't drawn her in ages and had to track this down to show it off. (Thank you, Wayback Machine!)
So the author of SSDD had a short-lived running gag where his character, Richard, had a crush on Florence. Being a fan of both comics, I wanted to draw fanart and thought playing on that gag would be fun.
WHEN I drew this is a total mystery. The Wayback Machine has 2002 as the earliest recorded capture of this on poisonedminds.com but I'm almost certain it was drawn before that. (I'm thinking more like '99 or '00.)

i havent read freefall in a long time, i like that little biogen wuff...i stoped reading near the end of the harvester in the dark i think it was called arc, or i asume near the end...i got tired of poor florance constantly being the but of shit she was not responsible for...i felt the author was using her as a punching bag, sometimes it 'was' legitmatly funny most of the time it was just sad

She was put in that 'damsel in distress' position a lot more frequently than someone with her intelligence should have (way to marginalize your female character, Mark), but seeing her come out on top was always nice. And like Lnarra said, you should get caught up if you get a chance. A lot has happened since the Gardner.

Lol, it's impressive that freefall is still going, and it's old enough for figuring out what decade you did fanart of it in to be an issue. nice work though, i like it.

The funniest thing about long-running comics like that is that, while relatively little time passes for the characters, modern technology constantly evolves. So at the start of the character's "day" in the comic, they have CRT monitors and flip-phones. Then, by the end of their "day" (three real-time years later), they now have flatscreen TVs and are asking Siri to order an Uber! :D

The best part about this is, on his old "fanart" page, he had my name wrong. I mentioned it to him when he posted it and he didn't fix it. 10 years later, I mention it again and he STILL doesn't fix it. Then he just pulls down the gallery completely.
