Ahh Darkrai... what a wasted, wasted opportunity. You had so much potential to be such a truly bad ass Pokemon. It was the first Dark-type legendary ever to come out and instead of being some terrifying monstrosity that can manipulate darkness itself it... gives bad dreams... and not even Freddy Krueger levels where it invades your mind and kills you in your sleep; nope. It just gives you nightmares because it wants to protect itself. Great possibilities that got wasted by that ever loving push of "there's no such thing as bad Pokemon", let's just forget the many ones described to be vicious or cruel or eat human souls, let's just forget that entirely! *sigh* Oh well...

Darkrai is one of those Pokemon I'm pretty torn on; I wanted to like it when it came out but the piss poor execution really disheartened me from it and it's design while kind of cool just suffers a lot. It has a lot of good design choices but there's also a lot of big, clunky parts of it that just aren't appealing. Playing up the wraith like vibe of the creature would make it look so much better. I may have gone a bit overboard by forcing such a Grim Reaper vibe onto it, but after all the dark, paranormal and supernatural entities that Pokemon has recreated for the series, it's a real shame and shocker that the Reaper hasn't been represented yet. Ok, so I know Dusknoir pretty much is the Grim Reaper of Pokemon, but I mean one that actually LOOKS like it. Dusknoir just looks like... honestly I don't even know, I literally cannot even comprehend what I'm looking at when I see that thing! But that's a topic for another day (soon to come)

So yes, Darkrai placed but... not after some heavy alterations. I didn't really think I would add it, but after the way this came out I'm glad. Still, I'm not giving it special praise because it's a legendary, honestly I'm shocked I put it as high as I did but I've stressed before that I really don't pay much attention anymore to my placement in these until the Top 10 but hey it is what it is and I like the end result!
