It's in the rules and that was the way it was meant to be applied. The problem is that it isn't an original model that they created, or had created for them. We just don't see the artistic value in having 1000 different renderings of the same model, in repetitive "show off my genitals" poses, any more than 1000 different photos of the same fursuit (especially if the model/fursuit isn't even "their art" to begin with).

Okay, so if people used their own hand made assets instead of MMD Models Ripped from Sonic games then "upgraded" with little effort to SFM would that be okay?

Yes, because they'd be original models. We don't have an issue with the character. Just the rendering of the same assets in a relatively unoriginal fashion that just shows off features of the models that we've already seen 1000 times.

We've also allowed reasonable use of unoriginal models to show off an original costume that needs to be rigged on a model in order to display it as it was intended (similar to how you need your fursuit to show off a new fursuit costume, even if we have seen that fursuit before) - as long as the use of the model is within the derivative works policy (including appropriate crediting, which many people don't).

Wow, this is the exact same talk FA started before it yanked me around like a ragdoll over Poser. And it was all up to the whims of the admin currently looking at it. I followed the rules to the letter there, and I STILL got snide comments from admins and even had to purge my account once over it. Retroactively applied new rules, right before they changed again.

Animation work is work. It should not have to pass some arbitrary bar to be considered "good enough". Otherwise, you'd better be prepared to apply the same "quality standard" to drawings. And let's not even start on music, unless you're going to require any digital artist to record every single sample themselves.

I've dealt with this elitism at FA before, and I don't want to see it here. I thought IB was better than that.

I agree with you, as soemone who does 3D animation vids for posting on youtube I cannot tell you how long it takes for me just to make a ONE SECOND CLIP, hell even a THREE second clip.

You have to put the time to make sure the motions good, you gotta make some adjustments, etc, that can take up to at minimum three to four hours, plus depending on what you're rendering, 3, 5, six hours, hell I've done animation clips that took me 10 hours to render. It's ridiculous how much effort is actually put into that. Seems really unfair judgement 3D artists are getting here.

Sorry to ignite an old topic btw, still I'm with you on this regard.

Yes, the distinction is whether they're yours or created specifically for you vs. available to everyone (for a price or otherwise). I could see us extending that to a specific group of artists where they have all had input into the creation of a model.

The context is "Inkbunny isn't just a furry porn site looking for content that will get lots of views, it's a volunteer effort run by donations, and we'd rather host a bunch of kinda-crappy-looking but original renders of people's own models over highly polished but identical 3D models if it helped people develop as artists".

We can have a discussion about whether such works heavily relying on derivative works effectively constitute sketches in 3D, but part of my concern is that people are using the existence of prebuilt models as a crutch to avoid developing the relevant model-building skills. That'd be more acceptable if the non-original components were stated upfront, but with this kind of work it's almost never even tracked, let alone mentioned.

I have to ask, now that you've allowed this very thing with AI (with users like DainenDog and scorpianpp uploading over 1200 submissions in the span of 18 months), will the policy towards 3D works change at all? Adding different toppings to the same base prompt to get something "original" takes just as much effort as making an "original" pose with a 3D model. Why is it okay to make 300 renderings using the same character lora but not okay to make 300 renderings of the same 3D model?

They don't hate sfm. They remove all low-effort or low-quality content. I haven't seen them removing any SFM content if it's something more than a badly-lit scene with weird poses.
