Some do it for exhibitionism. Some do it for charity. Some do it for a cheap chance to get in great shape. Some do it for love of the season. Some do it for a change of pace (some changes more drastic than others). Still others do it for a chance to meet new people they otherwise never would have had a chance to.
Our Fawns, however, are mostly here because someone offered them the chance to play at being Santa's helpers. Last year, we were sorta shocked at the amount of Reindeer merch we sold, especially that in dragonets' sizes. Something about being seen as a part of the season had a broad appeal, but we can't really have dragonets pulling sleighs - as a purely practical matter, they usually don't weigh enough to get traction, snowhooves or not. What they can do is help decorate the community, volunteer, and enjoy a sleepaway camp while they're on winter break.
At one of my first visits to one of the events - a tree-raising at a Shriners' hospital - one of the fawns rushed up to greet me and thank me for coming up with the Reindeer.
