One of the biggest things to ever happen to Heather Beech (the hammerhead) was the day Placid York (the alligator) literally fell into the fish's lap at the beach. The two took to each other immediately and have a been a great couple ever since, despite the reaction here by Mel's daughter, Melissa, who had hopes getting with Heather when she felt she was old enough. I'm still not sure if Placid ever gets around to telling Heather that the "accident" was a carefully arranged plan of the normally shy alligator's to meet the shark.
A complete redraw of an older sketch. Textless version and original sketch uploaded for comparison.
Awwwwww first meet...and hey you're still using the goggles idea I once gave you long back for Heather! I think I actually think I remember this one sketch actually, it certainly looks a lot more involved and the background chars look a lot better to add to the scenery too.

Ah, so you had the idea that led to Heather's sunglasses. Sorry, I totally didn't recognize from the name you use here. Thank you for that, very much. That's been one of the biggest outside contributions I've had to a character. The third file on this is the actual original sketch so people can see how I rearranged the other characters behind Heather and Placid to better tell the story in the image. I've tried to add at least the suggestion of a background to more recent things. It's not very nice of me to leave my characters floating about in a white limbo.

I'm very happy to hear that ^^ and you're welcome! I mean I been following you since 2005 way waaaaaaay back on Aradd the Black Unicorn's site so...yeah, I'm really glad that you kept that idea cuz it's not kind of well, iconic on Heather now, I can't imagine her without them!
I am very glad also that you added the original sketch in a pool alongside for each of these new pics so we can see a better comparison from then and now, it really accentuates what you've improved on for those of us not quite paying attention XD

I'm not sure I'll ever quite get used to thinking of 2005 as extremely old, though it has been nearly 10 years since then. To fully accept that though is to accept that I'm getting positively ancient. But back to the sunglasses, there's been no other design I can picture her with, at least nothing that would look as elegant and would still be functional.
The old sketches show up in my files alongside the new versions so I get to see the change all the time. And there's working from the original sketch too. I just thought it would be fun to show the original concept so people could track the changes. Perhaps it might help some aspiring artists see what a difference some small changes might make too.

wonderful seeing you create again, and also to see how your skills have improved. So the entire thing was a setup, eh? they are a wonderful couple and a delight to see you draw:) I had no idea mel's daughters had designs; quite interesting.

This isn't creating anything new. It's going back and trying old ideas again and giving them more time and patience than before. Yes, the entire thing was a setup, carefully conceived by Placid after spotting Heather in the Feeding Frenzy cafeteria. And the bit about Melissa's interest in Heather I tried to work into that piece and a couple of others but it was an idea that I had that's pretty much behind the scenes sort of stuff that I haven't really specifically dealt with.

ah, that helps explain it. I do love following your characters; seeing someone so devoted to them is a treat. And I love the idea of placid secretly being capable of such careful manipulation(toward good ends)

If I'm not devoted to my characters who will be? Well Susi has a thing for a half dozen as does Flynn but it might not be the same thing and there's always the rest to take care, even the ones that don't show up online.

*nods* very true; you're their parent and caretaker, protector and parent. I feel the same way with my characters. And I will admit I might fancy a couple of them, but this is your universe, you run it and are in charge, so I will enjoy a dalliance when I can and compliment the wonderful gifts ya share with us.
