It's a fantastic movie and seriously the best sad moment I've seen in any movie of my childhood. Bambi had nothing on Littlefoot looking his mother in the face as she took her last breath.
Atlasfield

Well was different, but in the end is the same: are victims, colateral damage of the actions of a murder. TwT But I´m agree with you, Littlefoot suffer more.
Daneasaur

Yes, Littlefoot did not have friends to help him, he instead suffered in depression until Ruder/Rudy, i can't remember his name, talked to him.

Neither I. :/

I need see the movie again. But you are right.

I read a review of the greatest manliest movies of all time, and oddly the first Land Before Time was number one, because its manly to cry and the hardships of baby dinosaurs. I thought it was hilarious, especially the comments about man tears and other things.

Really? interesting, Where you read it?
DuoTheas

I cannot recall, it was in 09 I believe on a website. I thought it was a joke at first,b ut got a lot of praise. Oddly that is not the only place Ive heard the Land Before Time as number one manly movie. The other place I heard it was on the radio in 10, but I am assuming they copied that website. Still, it was funny  to hear and it is one of my favorite movies.

Well I think they only make reference when the mother of Littlefoot died, the rest is... well like another movie I guess, an adventure, friends, battle with the murder, escape of a maze, final battle and quest completed. x3

I think maybe the darker aspect of the movie. You do not see movies dark anymore, I mean so much negative themes and they manage to over come it. A serious situation and they manage to pull through. Here is a long neck who is treated poorly at points in the movie by his friends, even loosing a fight to one. It is easy to capture sympathy for the long neck when you have the knowledge his mother died and that he is indeed alone. Though I feel we are going to get into a discussion of the movie, and end up watching it lol. Point being, not sure if what I heard was true, but it is a fun though for a fun movie.
Atlasfield

I´m agree with you, today the movies are not dark like this, if are dark... well make stupid ideas are nothing about it. Other characters passed by something similar, Bambi is the best example, but he doesn´t suffer like Littlefoot because the father of Bambi was to the rescue (in the Disney version), with Littlefoot no pass this, he was found for an old dinosaur but he abandon Littlefoot, then others dinos like him appear and become in friends for pass togheter this disaster. I liked it, but is sad, and in the same time funny, is like... how to say? ironic? dark times with funny moments. x3

Likewise with Tod, his mother was killed by a hunter (Fox and Hound) I only say that since people forget his mother was killed, cept he was found by an owl and old lady.  Anyhow yes. With Littlefoot, it is indeed dark, but it is a great example of how resilient children can be if need be. Though very young, they learned to rely on one another and kept up their spirits and managed to survive. But the dark level you see in this movie is not seen. Likewise the Secret of NIMH though that level of darkness was on a more realistic level. With Land Before Time, it does have a happy ending, though there are a lot of dark issues and adult situations that they have to deal with. Often, a lot of great shows have this dark aspect, though some do not, many do.

Oh yeah, you are right. Each character pass for many horrible situations, example FIevel, well not died but his family lost the hope for days, and the little mouse searching his family in a place he never lived on it before. But Littlefoot is going more far, is small, dangerous travel, no food, irregular times with his company and the worse, the murder of his mother is close.

I was wondered why not worked in the rest of the movies Don Bluth and added that dark effect? :/
DuoTheas
10 years, 11 months ago
A lot of people hate Don Bluth movies since he did not like typical Disney, where all the animals got along with one another. As he said, all these different species wont get along with one another, hence why he emphasized on it in his movies. Best example other then the rats and mice from NIMH, is the three horns attitude to other dinosaur species. The only odd exception is Rock A Doodle, where there are tons of hate groups for that movie.

An example of a show using the dark example when it was unexpected, was the series finale of Dinosaurs where they all die because of Earls actions. They all freeze and just dark to see that episode and realize the baby is going to freeze to death.

I liked this idea, and I feel Don Bluth was experimenting with it when was in Disney, example, well notice in Robin Hood some species not share the same with others, wolf vs fox or rabbits.

Dinosaurs... uff! Long ago I saw it, when I was a kid, I don´t remember the details of the end of the serie but I remember was something about a natural disaster, I will check it, I´m starting to feel homesick. x3
DuoTheas

Robin Hood is more symbolism, the sheriff is a wolf, get it. Hiss is a slithering suck up, prince john, a lion, but a young one for royalty. It was a similar deal to recycling some character designs from the scrapped Raynard the Fox story here and there, though Robin is practically Raynard.   Though Bluth did learn a lot from it all and managed to have his own success after leaving disney that is for sure.
Atlasfield

Maybe. Reynard? Curiosuly, renard is fox in french.

What was the last movie did Don Bluth with Disney? was not the black cauldron? I have a confusion because some say that was but I think he left more early the studios. :/
DuoTheas
10 years, 11 months ago
I am not sure actually, you might have to look that up on which was his last Disney studio film
Atlasfield
10 years, 11 months ago
Mmm, maybe I need investigate it, because if you see the black cauldron is too dark for be a Disney movie... but I love it. (°w°)
DuoTheas
10 years, 11 months ago
It was their first PG rated movie, as well as their 25th animated movie. Tim Burton worked on the Black Cauldron. The dvd shows some of his sketches as bonus features. Though I am interested to see his sketches on The Fox and the Hound, they said his sketches of Vixy looked like road kill.
Atlasfield
10 years, 11 months ago
Jaja, roadkill, I was wondered how looked because I cannot imagine.

Maybe... Mmm, maybe Michael Sporn has something in his blog about those pictures.
DuoTheas
10 years, 11 months ago
Id look into it. i totally want to see what those sketches would look like.
Atlasfield
10 years, 10 months ago
I was searching but... nope, nothing about it. :(

Maybe need ask the studios or one of the artist if has idea where goes those scketches.
DuoTheas

Maybe. Just it would be cool to see such things
Atlasfield

DuoTheas

I would not have the resources to find such images. Unless you do that would be cool
Atlasfield
10 years, 10 months ago
I´ll need try. :3
DuoTheas
10 years, 10 months ago
Yes indeed. That would be rather cool. Though I am assuming they are property of Disney since he was working under them and they are sketches for their movie. So I would assume it would be difficult to crack the Disney vault.
Atlasfield
10 years, 10 months ago
That would be a problem, Disney not borrow nothing, I tried many times for see more informatrion about Bambi and from other movies like Pinnochio. Maybe need ask the artists or find in forums, blogs or reunion points from fans or something like... or maybe I need try again asking Disney.
DuoTheas
10 years, 10 months ago
Indeed. But would be fun to see in the future or know from a source about them. And such connections, wish i had connections then maybe I can get my epic started, been working on it for nineteen years and have to start it haha.
Atlasfield
10 years, 10 months ago
Your "epic started"?
DuoTheas
10 years, 10 months ago
Yes. Been working on an epic for far too long, but due to life issues and road blocks, I have been delayed to a high point. But it is a personal thing, just had this idea in works for so long, thinking about it every day. Had a plan to do it, but thanks to my so called family, those plans were ruined.
Atlasfield
10 years, 10 months ago
And why not you try again? maybe this year can do something. :)
DuoTheas
10 years, 10 months ago
I never stopped. The problem now is finding a studio that would be interested in listening to a 10+ hour straight pitch of the epic summed up as much as I can possibly do it. Not only that, it is a matter of finding a studio interested in producing it with me in creative control and have them not steal it. Everyone I have ever talked about this idea to, even a sliver, has tried to steal it from me
Atlasfield
10 years, 10 months ago
That´s too bad people try to steal ideas and stuff, I had the same, I was searching for make videogames and animations, people promise help and support with miracles, in the end are the first who abandon you. :(
DuoTheas
10 years, 10 months ago
I had a method to do everything myself, but college and so called family messed me up. Just difficult now to find anyone or a studio willing to listen since the idea is very big, too big, been in the process of shortening it down. Best way to portray it would be a comic or an anime of sorts, but it would indeed be long. Looking for anyone interested in listening that has power to bring it into reality, though another difficult aspect, is that it is a very mature structure. Not pornographic mature, but mature in the sense of blood and a very graphic and disturbing villain at one point
Atlasfield
10 years, 10 months ago
Something like Ralph Bakshi did in his films? something creepy, mature, deep. That kind of ideas I like it too, I am boring of the cliches of today. :/
DuoTheas
10 years, 10 months ago
More action and extreme. i have to say mature due to one specific villain I have. Very, very extreme. i designed him to be so extreme that I have turned off the guro gore crowd with him. Hes too extreme. I did have to pull back on how horrid he is, but I tend to get the same general reactions when i mention him, which is what I want since he can easily be hated and it gives me a lot of room for something I wanted to do with him later on. But he is a short lived big villain, but his principles offer a lot of questions and force the hero to have second thoughts about his heroic actions if they are indeed "heroic"
DjChris
10 years, 12 months ago
I feel for him. This movie really brings me back, I did feel for Littlefoot for losing his mother, but I always he would stayed strong despite the hardship of finding sanctuary and his grandparents while making some new friends along the way.
Atlasfield
10 years, 12 months ago
Yeah that is the thing I like of Littlefoot, he never surrender, of all he is the most pain has in the movie, but only in the first... the rest... well... :/

I liked the other series especially seeing that new character Tria, I found her kinda attractive at her age. Just wish Don Bluth did the other series.
Atlasfield
10 years, 12 months ago
That is the problem. x3 I don´t liked the other movies, I think all are out of the reality of the first one.
