stoneback tortoise (JP: ストーンバック・トータス Sutōnbakku Tōtasu) is an enemy that can be found in chon hua, within the ancient world in chapter four. it is a squeltoise species affected by the redmoon. stoneback tortoise is a large tortoise with scaly green skin, an elongated neck marked with red lines, ‘n a rock-like "beard" on its chin. It has sleepy eyes, a large, elongated snout, ‘n two appendages resemblin’ jester caps, adorned with red crystal spheres and red spots. its shell, which resembles a meteorite ‘r a brown rock, features orange, stone-like ridges ‘r structures. it has long legs, much like those of a sea turtle but adapted fer land, each marked with red lines. it also possesses an elongated tail with a red stripe and a reddish section, endin’ in a shape that closely resembles a hammer. stoneback tortoise is profoundly peaceful, calm, ‘n incredibly dim-witted. despite its intimidatin’ size ‘n volcanic-lookin’ shell, its mind operates at an extremely slow pace, it often fails to realize it is in a battle until the fight has already ended. stoneback tortoise speaks in very halting phrases, separated by commas ‘r long pauses, frequently forgettin’ what it intended to say mid-sentence. its name is a dead giveaway, referencin' those prehistoric tortoises with the long necks, 'n it's got that whole rocky tortoise vibe goin' on. in chapter four, several of them appear as rare enemies alon’ the paths of chon hua, blockin’ main routes simply ‘cause they fell asleep in the middle of the way, mistakin’ the geek gang fer giant ornamental rocks. in battle, it employs the followin’ attack patterns: "hammer strike": stoneback tortoise slams its hammer-like tail into the ground, causin’ meteors ‘n rock fragments to rain down from the top of the bullet board. "shell spin": stoneback tortoise spins its rocky shell, emitting sparks while movin’ erratically ‘n abruptly. to spare it, the party must use the ACT "soothe" the party gently taps its shell to calm it down, which lowers its attack ‘n defence stats. another available ACT is "shake the mace": where the party helps clear the dust accumulated on its tail by pressin’ the [Z] key, this deeply relaxes to stoneback tortoise, makin’ it ready to be spared or recruited. followin’ the final ambush at the pillar tower in the temple ruins, orchestrated by the crimson reaper, martin gong and the party nearly fall, but they are saved by a group of dreamers (recruited alon’side sstoneback tortoises) who come to the aid of both the party ‘n martin gong. after the titan guard is defeated in chapter four, stoneback tortoises are relocated to funky town in chapter five, where they reside in the rocky shelter within pazuzu's garden, servin’ as a major attraction fer the younger people. in chapter six, durin’ the funky town festival, several stoneback tortoises use their heavy shells to help support the main poles of the various stalls. in the chapter six credits, they appear as part of the crowd helpin’ kalligo decourate the streets, allowin’ several dreamers to climb onto their backs so they can hang decourations up high. in chapter seven, durin’ the winter season in funky town, several stoneback tortoises can be seen enjoyin’ the snow that has piled up on their shells, remarkin’ that it feels like a giant ice cream sundae. Inside the dojo fighterZ theatre battle, there is a special, inanimate trainin’ dummy modelled ‘fter stoneback tortoises, it is crafted entirely from painted cardboard, with various sections held together by wooden rods, designed fer practicin’ battle combos. in the fireshock route of chapter four, several stoneback tortoises attempt to flee, fearin’ they will be killed; however, due to their extreme slowness, they are unable to escape the geek gang. they are subsequently burned ‘n pulverized by kindton in battle, eliminated in such a ruthless fashion that it prevents both their recruitment and any future appearances in funky town. their stats are 521 HP, 13 attack, ‘n 0 defence. defeatin’ them (in the fireshock route) ‘r attackin’ them mercilessly (in the neutral route) yields 40 EXP, alon’ with 160 dream dollars. their dojo fighterZ card reads as follows: type of bein’: dreamer. elements: earth ‘n shell. categories: large tortoise, being affected by the redmoon, rocky shell, dream tortoise, peaceful being, hammer-tail. description: “a large-sized squeltoise whose shell was transformed into a meteorite by the redmoon. it is incredibly peaceful ‘n clumsy, ‘metimes takin’ three full days just to realize it has tripped over a rock."
