The sound of children's laughter and mild swearing filled the studio as Rorick attempted to wrangle his daughter into a sitting position. With Roscoe's adoption having recently been finalized, he and Elyssa had decided to get an updated family portrait done. That was easier said than done with a rambunctious toddler and a squirmy baby in tow. Finally the family of four were situated... mostly, and the camera clicked. A happy young family, full of live and with a full future ahead now preserved for posterity's sake.
----- We're all on this planet for a brief moment. While we live here we cultivate our own stories. Our own tales. Our own legends. Some have a shorter time to write those legends, but it endures long after their candle burns out. Rorick, unfortunately, found that out the hard way.
It had been around forty years since Elyssa's passing, and yet the wound is still just as fresh to the collie as it was that fateful day. He often visited the cemetery where she'd been interred. Bringing news of the world's passing, of the news in his life and of the lives of their children, now grown and living lives of their own. Often he longed to join her, but his time had yet to come. His children still needed him. His legend still yet being written.
----- Normally I'd fill this part with praise for the artist and a bit of background into the piece, but... I've honestly been in a bit of a funk lately. Brother-in-law passed suddenly shortly after this was finished and the subject just... strikes a bit of a nerve now. The concept and the finished art were already hitting me feels, if one can understand, so I guess it just makes it a bit more raw and real to me now than it had already been. Anyways, I'm rambling. I'll leave y'all to it now.

Truly a sad but sweet story. I take it Elyssa was Roscoe's wife.
I've got a sad story completed but still in scraps. It takes place in New Mexico in the year 1960, the night before Christmas Eve. Three teenage pitbulls in a 1959 Cadillac are having a 42 mile road race with a teenage otter and his girlfriend and two beaver friends in a 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk. During the race, the teenage pitbull driver loses control of the Cadillac at 124 mph. https://inkbunny.net/s/3112357 Pages 98 to 113 are about the state police officers who are faced with the grim task of breaking the bad news to the parents of the teenage pitbulls.

My sympathies on your loss ❤️ But, as much as it might sting right now, and even though this artwork doesn't have anything to do with his passing, it can still be a reminder and testament to happier days. Just as Rorick, I'm sure, cherishes the portrait image, so too can you think back on the happier days and the fun times that defined your bother-in-law's Life. Never let someone you love or care for be defined by their Death.
Beautiful artwork and all the best to you ❤️
