Character Sheet
Character Description
Ixora Tye was regarded as one of the most brilliant physicians and scholars of her generation, a woman whose relentless pursuit of knowledge reshaped the way many communities approached medicine. From an early age, she displayed an insatiable curiosity, spending countless hours studying anatomy, botany, chemistry, and ancient medical texts that others considered too obscure or outdated to be useful. Rather than accepting established practices at face value, Ixora questioned everything, believing that every illness, every symptom, and every failed treatment held clues waiting to be understood.

Background/History
Her reputation grew not because she sought recognition, but because her results spoke for themselves. Patients traveled great distances in hopes of receiving her care, knowing she approached every case with remarkable patience and determination. She refused to see people as merely collections of symptoms, instead treating each individual as a complex combination of physical health, emotional well-being, and environmental circumstances. To Ixora, healing meant understanding the whole person rather than simply curing a disease.
Outside the infirmary, she was equally respected as a scholar. Her personal library expanded into one of the largest collections of medical journals, preserved manuscripts, botanical sketches, and anatomical diagrams in the region. She filled margins with observations, corrected outdated theories, and documented every successful treatment alongside every failure, believing that mistakes were just as valuable to future physicians as triumphs. Many younger doctors considered her both mentor and inspiration, encouraged by her willingness to teach anyone who genuinely wished to learn.
When the yellow fever outbreak began sweeping through nearby settlements, Ixora immediately abandoned her own research to dedicate herself entirely to caring for the sick. She worked exhausting days and sleepless nights, treating patients until her hands trembled from fatigue. Despite repeated warnings from colleagues to distance herself from infected areas, she refused to leave. She believed a physician's duty was greatest when hope was at its weakest, and she could never bring herself to abandon those who had nowhere else to turn.
Eventually, constant exposure caught up with her. Ixora contracted yellow fever herself, yet continued documenting the progression of her own illness while she still possessed the strength to write. Even confined to her bed, she carefully recorded symptoms, treatment responses, and physical changes, hoping that future healers might use her observations to better understand the disease. Her final journal entries were less concerned with her own survival than with ensuring others might someday succeed where she could not.
Ixora's memory would be what pushed Azalea to push on to finish her own research even through her own pain and struggling.
