This comic is formatted a little different from most. The story is tex-heavy, so to save space I have omitted some 'talking-head' panels. Let's see how this is received...
Seems we've arrived too late to see Gene and Mimi playing on the beach, but we are in time to watch them buy ice cream from the parlor. Let's see what they order...
MIMI (to clerk): "My usual one scoop strawberry in a cup with a cherry, but no hot fudge this time please"
GENE (tugging his bather): "She still likes hot fudge, but her new French bikini doesn't stretch"
MIMI (to Gene): "My metabolism lets me eat anything without concern"
GENE: "Nuh-uh! Prove it!"
MIMI (to clerk): "Hot fudge, please!"
/a sign reads "NEW! No-Pudge Hot Fudge"
GENE (pointing out the sign): "Uh-oh! Looks like hot fudge no longer counts, Mimi!"
MIMI (annoyed; to clerk): "Please change my order to two scoops strawberry with caramel sauce in a waffle cone!"
GENE: "Why no cherry--it's your favorite! ...but if you can't handle it"
MIMI (flailing in frustration): "I want the Super-Hyper-Mega-Ultra-Monster Banana-Tree Split! Extra everything! I don't care if it's fifty bucks! Put it on my daddy's tab! And don't forget the cherry!"
MIMI (sheepishly): "Please!?"
/the cubs are presented with the enormous ice cream/
/later, after Mimi has eaten the whole thing/
MIMI (resisting total defeat): "You were wrong about one thing, Gene---my bikini DOES stretch!"
Don't worry---Gene will roll Mimi home safe. After a talking-to from her parents, Mimi will go to sleep and *dream of running on a treadmill ...and this will somehow make her slim again in the real world (because cartoon). ^^
*or was it!? D:
Pencil...
The featured pencil is the 'Olympic' from Reliance Pencil Co. The Olympic is a 'fat' pencil designed for little children to use (these are sometimes referred to as 'primary pencils'. This one was factory sharpened.
From Bob Truby's site,
"Reliance Pencil Co. was originally based in Mount Vernon, New York, and the company is believed to have been established in the early 1930s. Its founder and president, Maurice Levine, died in 1952. Around this time the company is thought to have opened facilities in Lewisburg, Tennessee, and changed its name to Reliance Pen and Pencil Corp. Not much else is known about Reliance, however, a 1972 lawsuit claimed the paint used on the company's pencils contained dangerously high levels of toxic lead. Venus was also named in the suit"
I wanted SO bad to feature my ice cream 'Doodle' pencil ..but I found I had already. :P Moreover, around a year ago, I had a chance to buy a Dairy Queen Ad-Tip pencil (circa 1950s), but passed on it. I wish I hadn't as it would have been the better to feature here.
PLEASE tell me that the small heads in the second to last panel accurately depict the size of the ice cream "THING!!" Mimi's about to TRY to eat before it melts and drowns the world! :D Also I applaud your restraint in showing the carnage in the Ice Cream Shop AFTER she's finished! ;D
And for some reason having a pencil the we know most children chew on having lead in it's paint an ironic perfect choice for this little cartoon. Lastly glad to see you drawing and posting again. :)

Valentine could be a real last name. It sounds like a possible last name for a rich family. Gene and Tasli's last names are made up but were chosen for effect. All the names were basically chosen to have a nice satisying lyricalness. Something to think about.
Here are some my own examples: Jonah Adler Jonathan Jackrabbit Binx Bubbleski Victor Von Finklestein Kyaw Bits Sven Bobs Petroshka Leningrad Simon Squeaks
Mimi Valentine Gene Jaspermyer Tasli Tavishaw Valentine could be a real last name. It sounds like a
Yes. Dont let him kick you then. But more importantly jackrabbits have long slender ears that point upwards unlike rabbits that seem to flop down more, and also, the illiteration sounds nice: Jonathan Jackrabbit.
When in doubt sometimes starting the last name with the same letter as the first name can make for a nice sounding name.
I took your idea as more of a challenge, but if you like any of them Im honored :)

The lesson here is not to let some boy dictate to you what you should put in your mouth. A lesson girls everywhere could do to learn, to their benefit.

Naughty Gene. Peer pressure is a nasty, nasty thing. We all know why a guy's swim trunks need to stretch and "conform" while a woman's wears don't have to. ;3
I also think Mimi's swim suit has now become a part of her. Come to think about it, I think all the girls of that world are born with their swim wear as part of their bodies, that's why we never see them with anything less lol :3
Another point for Gene in those two's never-ending battle to nag and best each other. They'll make a great couple once they mature... age- and mental-wise.

On an unrelated note ... I just love the little "please" at the end. Shows she has upper class manners and feels embarassed by her outburst. Shows some character depth I dont think we've seen before.
