Similar to color blindness, I think some are afflicted with line blindness, meaning the affected are unable to detect a bad drawing when they see it. This is a bad drawing. :3
But line blind or not, one thing anyone can see is even when I draw random characters, I end up drawing my main cast ...in this case, Ace Fox with an aged-up Tasli (I caught this while drawing and just went with it rather than changing anything).

Why'd I draw this?

This is a sorta-kinda gift art for my friend John from eBay (John has lots of pens and pencils): https://www.ebay.com/str/johnswriteagain

John and I exchange DMs from time to time. I mentioned having recently spent a LOT of money on a Popples pencil, to which John replied thus,

"To me money is just a way to a means. I always say that the real value is only whatever you can walk away from someone giving you the money for it. It goes the other way around.
Something that I really want is almost priceless, depending on how much I want it. I know that I've overpaid for many things because I wanted it more than the money I gave for it. It's as simple as that. That goes for about everything here in the collector world.
Most things that I sell, my brother-in-law would most likely throw it out just because he sees no value in it at all. It's actually people who are like that who have made a lot of things very valuable to us.
Most of all pencils were used up and not set aside for any future reasons. We have the very few that were forgotten somewhere before they had a chance to be used. A few were left in a writing desk waiting to be used when for some reason the desk changed hands & they were forgotten that way. I sometimes think about what kind of stories that all of my items hold. A lot are probably boring. But I bet some have some very interesting ones to tell. It's just a different way to look at things"

...I really liked that reply, so I honored it with a cartoon. :3

Then again, I'm unsure how my art brings honor to anything, but John seemed to like it. :3

Pencil...

The featured pencil was made for The American Pencil Collectors Society (TAPCS); vintage unknown, but I'd say 1950s or thereabouts.

TAPCS is still around, and one would think I'd be its most active enthusiastic member ...one would think so. :P
In reality, I don't like TAPCS. I had one interaction with them, on FB. They really wanted me to join their group, but their persistence turned me off. Perhaps this will read as strange, but any group that WANTS me to be a member probably isn't worth joining (I should feel I need THEM, not the other way round).

I'd say in total, I have around 7 pencils or so. I used to have more than 10 actually lol. But the eraser tips on them got hard. So I gave them to my family to do whatever they want with them. As I don't believe in just throwing stuff out either

Come now, Shifty, erasers are only for the unskilled (like Chippy). That's one reason real art pencils intended for real artists don't have erasers ...that and when a real artist does use and eraser, they're using a kneaded one. ^^

Anyway, you toss a pencil because its eraser goes south? Dude, just get a pack of caps (Chippy buys three or four packs at a time). The pencil will never become an antique if you just throw it out (besides, it's only aging like the rest of us---its eraser hardens as our arteries do). :3

Oh quit that, you are more skilled than me in some regards lol. But that's besides the point. Yeah, I supposed you have a point there.......I NEVER thought of that until you brought that up lmao. But those caps tend to wear out & break apart so easily. At least, that's what's happened to me before. But, that was when I was in middle school lol.

I always knew I had line blindness, just needed someone to confirm it for me ;3

Who knew we'd see a grown-up Tasli. Either he found the light and got better, or we're about to see his next con.

I always put a value for an item by not only its usefulness, but how long I see myself using said item either until the item loses it's function or I just forget about it and stash it away. If an item that costed me $10USD somehow was able to last me 20 years, I put a price of $0.50USD/year on it and, to me, fits its worth.

On the other side of the coin, if said item is of special rareness (one-of-a-kind or limited edition) the price you pay for it is valued in the fact that you have ownership of the item where else you would not. The overall value then is if you see yourself glad that you have said item vs not having it down the road.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I want to embrace my line blindness and enamor over your drawing.:D

:P ^_^

I'm strange when it comes to buying things. I'll take a paper napkin from McDonald's and use it until there's no clean space left (like, if all I did was wipe my mouth once on it, it's still good). And then turn around and drop $75 on a pencil I've no intention of sharpening.
I like pencils, but I'd be remiss to NOT say my main interest in them is in uploading them to the internet. The value of that popples pencil was in its rarity, but also in closing the hunt---of achieving the goal. :3

In the end, we take nothing with us---money's as good to me in the grave as the junk I bought with it, so may as well spend it.

I've once heard a radio preacher say, "A person could have a million dollars. But if money is the only thing that person possesses, then that person truly has nothing".

He may've meant that without Christ, we have nothing.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in or steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" -Matt 6:19-21

"But what about something a bit more...permanent?"

"I don't do markers! They're the devil's tools! Filled with noxious and beguiling solvents!"

"I was talking pens...."

"Artificial and awful. Plastic and fake. The pencil... the pencil is made from the tree and the clay of the soil. Its eraser knows we are all mortal and make mistakes. And when its nub is discarded it returns to the dust which birthed it. The pencil is moral, the pencil is good. And gallant, and noble, and misunderstood."

That is a very cool homage you made, and a very touching message indeed as many people just lose the focus of things.
