I want to preface this by saying I DESPISE asking my watchers to do things. It comes across as needy (rest assured, this is a VERY trivial matter) and it's generally inappropriate.
However, I've done all else I know to do (and I'm bored), so here we are.
Guys... I need ...no (let's be real here) I 'want' a Popples pencil. ^^;
I swear these pencils are effectively extinct. That said, I believe they were more common in Europe than in the States (where I'm from), and as I've a scattering of watchers from all over the world, it couldn't hurt (too much) to ask. ^^
All right, let's familiarize ourselves with the objective. We're looking for 1980s Popples pencils. These are they (markers/pens count): https://sta.sh/01n1f2vk53d6
Most were of these were of the coloring sort, with at least one having a 'magic core" (multiple colors swirled together). The barrels were round and (in the case of the white ones) were printed with thin paint. The pastel pencils contained graphite, and were stamped 'TCFC' on the bottom ('point' end). These were sticker-coated (ie. no visible seam).
These would have been made roughly between 1985 and 1987 (some may have extended into the 90s, but this isn't likely).
The places where these pencils might pop up (heehee!) are buy-sell-auction sites and (in the real world) second-hand/donation stores ...or maybe you have one already!? :D
Ok, so what should you do if you find a Popples pencil?
DM me (duh!). We'll work out the details from there ...but in general,
CONDITIONS/RULES:
1. If you find a listing for a Popples pencil online, DO NOT BUY IT! Just please link me to it (if I miss it, I miss it).
I say this because there is ABSOLUTELY NO PROMISE I'd buy it back from you (even if we're friends). There's the possibility you found the wrong thing, bought one in deplorable shape, the pencils were fake, or came with a bunch of other pencils/things I neither want nor need (too many variables to list). Just please link me to the listing and I'll make a decision from there (as well consider how I WILL REWARD YOU if I buy the pencil). :3
2. If you find a Popples pencil in a thrift shop in the real world ...buy at your own risk, then DM me. This, for me, would be the most unfortunate situation, but could work out well for us both. :3
3. If you have a Popples pencil in-hand ...know that I believe in 'trust but verify'. In other words, you'll need to prove you have the pencil (photo with background, preferably three or more CLEAR photos of the pencil from different angles).
4. I will REQUIRE that you have either an eBay, Mercari, or an aged account on some other ESTABLISHED buy-sell-auction site, as I will buy ONLY from sellers using these places (ie. I'm not going to PayPal money to anyone). Depending on who you are/our relationship to one another, I may make an exception to this at my discretion (be warned, I can count the number of watchers I extend such trust to on my hands ...and have fingers left over). :3
5. I don't care if the pencil is sharpened (most of these were factory-sharpened). My main concern is the pencil has good paint (I will be the judge of it).
6. I don't care where you are in the world. $50 shipping? Ok (been there, done that), but I will require tracking. Moreover, if I'm buying internationally, I have specific instructions on how to pack so customs doesn't snap the pencil. We'll work this out in DM.
7. Be warned: I know the difference between real vintage pencils and fake ones from Etsy, etc. :3
8. The amount I'll pay will be contingent on some things. In short, I'm fully aware of how scarce these pencils are (and now I've made everyone else aware of it, too), BUT I'm also not an idiot. This would be worked out between myself and the seller (Chippy is mean like that). :3
Last, please don't DM me hoping to sell me something else. I'm sure you have a drawer full of old, rare pencils somewhere. That's so totally cool! :D Good luck selling (I'm not your buyer---I'm here looking for Popples pencils only).
Now ...sic 'em, boys! Let's hunt us some popples! ...'popples pencils', that is. ^^
You had me worried there for a sec. Usually when you make an announcement it means something bad ...
Like either you are terminally depressed and decide to pull some kind of stunt or your having a mental break down and taking it out on us your art or both, or you are railing against your watchers for some such or other (prob cause someone said something you didnt like), or you out of the blue make a drastic change to your modus operandi (only to be reversed in a week) usually involving crayons or some other form of acting out, or you are threatening to burn it all down while we are still in the building ... sigh ... Im sure we all love ya chip ... but sometimes ...
Anyway, this time it turned out to be a completely harmless request. So ... uh ... yay ig.
Good luck with your popple pencil. I didnt even know popples existed before you brought them up and I dont really collect pencils. But hopefully something will turn up for you.
P.S. This was meant more as playful teasing not as harsh criticism. I have become accustomed to your histrionics and visitudes.

Well, I am dying, Ziv. We all are ...and I still hate my art---I know I'm a LOLcow for my watchers, and the InkBunny admin are thinking how they can remove me/my art without upsetting anyone (fact is, my scribbles are taking up server space and crowding search results thereby limiting the exposure of better artists ...which is everyone) ...but I had only so much space to write in. :3
<3

I found no popples pencils for sale but I did find another way to look for them, apparently they were popular in Italy, scroll down this list through all the popples merch and find search terms like "Popples mini taccuino con penna e astuccio" Might give you a better chance at finding some. https://www.flickriver.com/photos/themycia/sets/7215762...

My friend, I've gone as far as to add 'jp, . fr, .it', etc., to eBay. I'm combing it hard! lol
I also look for pencil listings in general. Like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/155703177606 I downloaded those images and scanned them with a magnifier! XD I'm even looking up 'Care Bears Pencils' with the idea people might be confusing the two (the characters look similar). I have two pencil-seller friends (one in Cyprus and one in Japan) helping me look. These pencils are HARD to find!
Not joking when I say it's easier to find 150+ year-old pencils than those with Popples. Check this out: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334977163915 Circa 1870s (yes I'm the bidder lol). This'd be my sixth one. :P

I see, I see. Well good luck. With more eyes looking for them I hope you find them but as you know I have not seen any even sold recently. Or even in a long time, I checked worthpoint.

So fun! Gene looks great! When the popple urges just take over and come out to party! The time of the great poppling begins!.. Or I suppose to make an important announcement. *laughs*
Will keep a look out for some! Are probably pretty rare I would think, possibly there might be some made from the newer netflix series?

...Oh, the Netflix series. Right, I need to make a statement about that. I know you like the Netflix 'popples', so I'll try (TRY!) to be gentle, when the time comes ...but you probably can guess what my thoughts are about the series. ^^

I can understand folks and that show, it really wasn't their best for sure. But I did adore Lulu quite a lot, seemed very sweet in a misunderstood way, so to me is like a little blue waifu. The rest though, expecially the males were really eh.. kind of a miss. I also did like their for the most part, their designs and the world which looked nice and cute. Except for the yin/yang coloration thing they did to each popple's face. Was not a fan of that, the 80's normal look was better.
So yeah, my take away was I adore Lulu, love her to bits, and I thought it was well animated and nicely fluffy. But the show as a whole left a lot to be desired and at times was just bad. Just my opinion though! ^^

If I'll say anything good about the Netflix 'popples' it's that they gave the popples a world.
The 1986 series failed to give the popples any real lore or origin, save for an ambiguous 'explanation' of how one can conjure/create popples ('favorite things', etc). So I'll give the Netflix series that: it gave the popples a homeland, though my headcanon rejects effectively everything from that series (chiefly because I feel the writers either knew nothing or cared nothing for the originals---unless I missed something, there's just no connection to the 80s popples at all).
I don't think this is a case of rose-colored nostalgia goggles, either. To begin, I didn't grow up with the popples. I was five in 1986---I knew what popples were, but I wasn't watching the cartoon at the time. My only memory of the cartoon was of Puzzle Popple. My autism had a thing for the color orange at the time (prolly still does: Gene wears an orange T-shirt for a reason lol), so Puzzle was the only popple I remembered ...but I never had a popple plush, and TDC and Nickelodeon were my main interests insofar as television. So my interest in popples really began just this year, with no real nostalgia fueling it (digressing, but the care bears WERE something I grew up with, as TDC ran the Nelvana series for many years). :3
Second, I like the 2001 ToyMax popples (two of my popples OCs [Puddle and Panache] are based on these). The ToyMax popples never had an animated incarnation (that I'm aware of), but I find the plushes to be somewhat more interesting than the originals: more colors and better/more consistent symmetry insofar as craftsmanship (the originals often had slanted muzzles, etc), albeit the ToyMax popples are a tiny bit harder to unball.
...'Unball'. That's not a word, but I like it! XD
Last, I greatly dislike the original's second season. Pufflings? 'Baby' popples? Eight new 'characters' in total that eat up story time, contribute nothing, and don't even talk (only ONE episode used the babies well---the pufflings were never of desirable consequence). Oh, and don't get me started on 'sports' and 'rockstar' popples! D: D: D:
*takes a Klonopin*
Anyways, as for popple faces ...I think the originals were going for a clown aesthetic: bright red noses; accented cheeks; colorful, wig-like hair, etc. That makes sense given that jokes and acrobatics were the popples's forte. :3
My headcanon relates popples to care bears due to the uncanny similarities of their body shape and their 'heart' accents (ears; footpads). I tried my best to connect popples with Gremlins (the crew who made the popples puppets for the pilot episode also made the puppets for the Gremlins movie only a couple years prior) but I couldn't arrive at a coherent connection. *sigh!*
Had the original series given a world to the popples (as the Netflix series did), the originals could've known a third season. At the very least, the popples would be better remembered today.
If I'll say anything good about the Netflix 'popples' it's that they gave the popples a world. The
yup I like the netflix popple world, the show did have a lot of very good things. How they roll and bounce, and even some lore. I just wish they had done more with it. It was interesting to get a glimpse of what it looks like from outerspace too.
The fact popples are kinda sneaky, gremlins that instead of being hurtful, love to party, is where my transformation canon comes from. There has to be some reason there is more and more popples sighted, so it just makes sense. *based on the older cartoon, where we have no idea how or where they come from. Or from the newer there seems to be an invention of somekind that pretty much anything you can think of.* Might be some poptastic transformative ingredients hidden in those chocolate bars the group likes, right with all the other wierd stuff, fits right in!
Carebears are always awesome too, and not above my transformation fun for that either. Especially from the song "I wanna be a carebear" Ever since, well I figure everyone is turning into either a popple or a carebear. *laughs* I had and still have a huge thing for wish bear, even had a plush of her when I was small. ^^ Might be in the attic now, most of the kid toys got stored when I moved. Is probably another reason I like magical and transformation type things.
Also I still feel the waterpet will adore Gene in this form! In a very "you've become very cute, handsome, boyfriend" sort of way. Just wait till Mimi finds out, she might just pop herself!

I don't think I've ever really finished anything. The journey and story is the good part anyway! There is always more. So certainly don't feel bad. Is nothing wrong not having an end to water pet, we just need more fun with her! The end to a little story arc is just a beginning to another.
