Seems the cubs are at Gene's apartment watching a 'free with ads' upload of 'Care Bears Movie II: a New Generation' (CBM2aNG). Let's see if they like it...
[CHEER BEAR (from computer)]: "Cousins! Kids! Every bear! Don't just sit there, Care! Care! Care!"
MIMI, MUBBA and GENE (chanting with the movie): Care-a-Lot! We care a lot! Care-a-Lot! We care a lot! Care-a-Lot! We care a lot!
GENE (singing with the movie): Keep your chin up, Don't stop carin' We've got a job, And it's tough to do
Now is the moment, *Start preparin' Stand up and fight, For the good and true
MIMI and MUBBA (singing in harmony): Give your all, And never falter
GENE (singing): We have promised, To defend
MIMI and MUBBA (singing in harmony): Do your part, And put your heart in
MIMI, MUBBA and GENE (singing in harmony): Our numbers are **few, But we know what to do
TASLI (clearing his throat for attention): "AHEM!"
MUBBA: "Sounds like someone's a grumpy bear!"
TASLI (annoyed, at trio): "You've done this with EVERY! LAST! SONG!"
GENE (annoyed): "Duh, Tasli! The songs are the only reason to watch this movie!:
TASLI (doesn't care): "Nya!"
*I heart "Stop" here (would makes sense in context: the Cares had just suffered a loss and were regrouping to fight the big-bad ...which would mean the end of preparation)
**I know the lyric is "Our numbers are new", but 'few' seems better here (again, the Cares had just lost several friends). I wrote it as 'few' because this is my comic---my characters will say whatever I want them to. :3
I have to agree with Gene---the songs are the best part of CBM2aNG ...that and we get to see Swiftheart in a bathing suit (hey, if I didn't mention it, someone in comments would). :P
The soundtrack was a big step up from that of the first movie (albeit, the first movie was better in every other way, but that'll be a wall of text for another day).
"Our children helped us tremendously with their feedback as real Care Bear fans. When we took on this project, we made up our mind not to write down to children. There's a huge library of over-simplistic music available to children, but kids love music and they have very sophisticated tastes. When Debbie came over to the house to record 'Care Bears Cheer Song,' ['Fight Song'] she brought her baby and nanny and manager and everyone had a great time.[28] — Carol Parks (soundtrack producer and vocalist)
As for the movie itself... I hate that the film basically makes all the care bears and cousins brothers and sisters. Totally pointless (as well, how does one use the lore here to explain Grams Bear?). :P The movie is just dumb in general (not gonna review it here---sorry!), albeit, one almost redeeming fact of this movie was the voice of Dark Heart was provided by Hadley Kaye, who played P.C. Popple from the 1986/1987 'Popples' series (yes, I still have popples on the brain). :P
Pencil...
The featured pencil is a Care Bears pencil copyrighted MCMLXXXIV ...or '1984' for those who don't read ancient Roman ...or whatever that is. :P
The pencil features Funshine Bear, back when she was a girl. ^^ Grumpy or Cheer would have been better, but I don't have either of those (presently).
In retrospect, given the plot of CBM2aNG, I could have featured a 'Faust' pencil by L&C Hardtmuth ...which I have here in this bag: https://sta.sh/0ygcbf1wunj (consider this an unofficial feature). :3
Not necessarily. It depends which studio/writer was involved. Even the Care Bears wiki isn't sure,
"(Note: The subject of this article has conflicting sources to their gender. For the purposes of consistency and readability, gender-neutral pronouns will be used to address this character throughout this article due to their neutrality.)"
This makes your initial comment about oogling Swiftheart in a bathingsuit rather odd for you.
Reading the article it sounds more like they are canonically male but that later productions had them present feminine perhaps just bec they wanted some 'female' CareBears in the mix. Essentially them trying to retcon their sex.
One could easily remedy this with a simple headcanon that Swiftheart is either an effeminate male or trangender if that is more your speed. I didnt see anything in official sources that says they are canonically "genderfluid" (whatever thats suppose to mean in this context).
Canonically Gender neutral characters are usually designed that way to allow the audience to come to their own conclusion or chose one based on their preference, such as Mei from 'One Story Night' or the Fox from 'Tunic'. The neutrality is by design ... not because the creators couldnt decide on and/or maintain a canonical sex.

I don't mind at all, questions are always welcome! Although I don't wanna hijack Chippy's comment section ^^' I'm in favor of drawing Swiftheart as a boy. I believe he originally was one in the show. Even though the writers might have genderswapped him later on, I'm biased in favor of drawing cute boys (for the time being).

That's what I suspect as well from the little I know. They probably just felt they needed a higher female quotient at some point on the show.
Im also biased towards furry boys. Its cute when they are sweet and/or affectionate. I feel CareBears, of all things, deliberately played into that cuddly boy trope. In fact they practically invented it! It was the polar opposite of something like GIJoe or Transformers. Im sure it provided reassurance to the more senitive boys out there of being seen ... and ofc there was a large contingent of boys who completely hated and mocked it, and there was also probably boys who secretly loved it as well.
Anyway, I say go for it. If its your drawing than it can be whatever sex/gender you want. There is nothing forcing you into some "canon" because its your fan art. And as for "mixed messages", thats why tagging is a thing. You can make it clear that your version is a boy.
Anyway, I for one would love to see the result! :3
P.S. You're pfp is cute

Could be a number of things. I suspect they wanted to add representation for girls who identify more with female characters, not really sure. Shows were starting to adopt all sorts of crazy ideologies by the late 80's. Frankly I never cared much about the message they were trying to sell with cartoon animals and they were always just an outlet for me that I could use to escape from real life and I just wanted to see the characters interact (among other things), but I'm more visual that way and even as a kid I already knew that escapism doesn't work when you mix it with real world issues. I was always more private with my thoughts and tried to not force my views on others too much, because I believe personal experience is always more important than blindly following subliminal messaging that get shoehorned in for whatever reason. It's interesting to see how that shifted nowdays with the rise of social media, but I'm getting a bit off track here.
I like girls and boys all the same, but I gotta admit, the idea of a group of furry boys being sweet, affectionate and playful appeals to me greatly. It's something I wanted to be a part of ever since I started developing feelings toward cartoon animals that are cute and cuddly, so I'm glad that Care Bears played into that. Pretty sure I'm one of those sensitive types! lol! A lot of my friends hated these type of cartoons, and I was definitely one of those who only liked it in secret. Kinda sucked that I didn't have the type of friends who I could talk to about cartoons, or someone to draw with back then, but maybe this time it will be different. We'll see.
I have to agree that fanart - or personal art - should be free from outside influence (unless you're going for something very specific) and that you shouldn't have to force yourself to draw things a certain way just because it's mainstream, or cannon (even though I'm a sucker for drawing things in a way that would make my friends happy). Creativity can not fully thrive if you put limits on it. Freedom of expression and outlets exist for a good reason. I personally have always struggled with this, but I'm slowly getting over it.
And lastly: I gotta say I've been getting a surprisingly large amount of support here on IB, both from Chippy and now you (even though I don't have anything to show for it yet). This has been encouraging to me and I wanna thank you both for helping me move forward. Hopefully I can post some Swiftheart here soon and make him great... Did I say great? I meant male! :'3

I listened for the bunny's pronouns but didn't catch any. However, given this was a caring mission undertaken by three characters: Swiftheart, along with two male characters, it can be inferred that Swiftheart was the obligatory female here (but that could just be my cynicism).
I'm unsure how I'd gender the character if I committed them to ACO, but in regards to Ziv's earlier statement,
"This makes your initial comment about oogling Swiftheart in a bathingsuit rather odd for you"
Swiftheart is a blue bunny ...they don't need a gender, necessarily, to be interesting. The species, color, shape, etc., suffices. Where biological sex characteristics would be relevant (and for me, they would be), my interests would corral themselves.
Bear in mind that I'm ace---I'm not sexually attracted to anyone; I'm allowed to like funny-animal males (most of my OCs are male, esp. the ones I strip), however (and somewhat incongruously) I'm hetero-romantic. So unless Swiftheart were actually female (and not so merely nominally), Swifty'd have no chance (not that they would anyway---I mate for life).
It's just how my mind is wired.
So long as the conversation is appropriate, I don't mind my comments section being 'hijacked'. It s
"Swiftheart, along with two male characters, it can be inferred that Swiftheart was the obligatory female here" - I absolutely love the idea of Swiftheart being the obligatory female along with two male characters. I'm more than comfortable with that.
"Swiftheart is a blue bunny ...they don't need a gender, necessarily, to be interesting. The species, color, shape, etc., suffices" - I'm on the same page in this regard.
"'m not sexually attracted to anyone; I'm allowed to like funny-animal males (most of my OCs are male, esp. the ones I strip)" - Absolutely and oh my!
"I'm hetero-romantic. So unless Swiftheart were actually female (and not so merely nominally), Swifty'd have no chance (not that they would anyway---I mate for life)." - Interesting thoughts. I could imagine myself being in the same situation under certain circumstances. Definitely something I could go for.
Thanks for the invitation. "Swiftheart, along with two male characters, it can be inferred that Swi
I was the same way when I went to a friend's house when I was young with The Lion King VHS (yes, I'm that old just like Chippy :D). I knew my friend's younger brothers and their friends would be singing all the songs all night long so halfway through the movie I had to get out of the house.
Back then I came to watch the movie with my friend and not be an audience to kids half our age singing Hakuna Matata. Even today depending on how I feel, I can either be Gene and the gang, or Tasli.

If I am in the right mood, those songs are pretty nice. The movie has a few okay moments, it quite possibly is also a contender for the movie with the biggest gaping plot holes of all time...
It would be cute to see your take on all songs in comic form, Chippy! :-)

The whole movie is an incoherent mess, if you're going to argue whether a scene or story line had any business existing you could discard 99% of the plot. I thought Forever Young was the best song when I saw the movie.
