Place: Guadeloupe County, New Mexico.
Time: December of 1960

Alex Fox (age 17) is braving 26 miles of riding a bicycle through a winter storm to bring food and a thermos of stew to his grandpa and grandma.
Alex's family is too poor to afford a car. Alex's dad passed away from cancer a few years earlier, leaving his mom, himself, a younger brother, and three younger sisters.
Because Alex Fox is the oldest of the siblings, he was chosen to make the journey to bring food to Grandpa and Grandma.
Fortunately for Alex, snow hasn't begun sticking to the road yet...Pavement has a way of holding ground warmth for a while.
Alex does make the journey, and he is one frosty fox by the time he arrives to Grandma's and Granddad's house. The first thing Alex wants to do was to get that snow covered blanket off and warm up near the wood burning stove his grand parents have.
Alex's mom packed enough food for his grand parents and himself to have until the weather cleared up.
Mama told Alex, "It's bad enough to make the run during the storm. So stay at Grandma's and Grandpa's place until the weather is good".

On pic 3: A car is approaching from a distance away. Fortunately, it is a station wagon. There was enough room for Alex Fox's bicycle, thus although Alex didn't get a ride for the rest of the way, he did get a ride for part of the way...which was better than no ride at all. There was a turn the owner of the station wagon had to make before getting to Alex Fox's grand parents place.

Thanks.

Poor Alex Fox had to battle that blizzard on a bicycle.
He was sure happy when he made it to Grandma's and Grandpa's place though.

The lonesome feel of that song goes well with Alex Fox's bicycle ride.  Thank for sharing.

Is Guadeloupe County anywhere near Estancia County?  Because when I read the part about the approaching station wagon, I Thought of Marge Coyote's Plymouth wagon.  Whether or not it was, I'm still glad Alex got a partial ride in that blizzard.

Guadeloupe County is north of Torrance County. Estancia is a city in Torrance County.
The community of Duran which is the home town of Clarence's adoptive family is in Torrance County. Thus, Clarence attended school in Torrance County in 1960.
Clarence's biological family live just south of Vaughn which is in Guadeloupe County. In Clarence's home day and time in the 21st Century, he attends school in Guadeloupe County.

In the story, the spot behind the rock formation near Highway 54 where the time machine took Clarence to 1960 was just inside of Torrence County not far from the Guadeloupe County line.

As for Alex Fox, his home is in Pastura, which is further north along Highway 54 than Vaughn is. Alex had a really long bicycle ride in that harsh blizzard to Grandma and Grandpa's house.
