They'd be out of luck until someone comes by. And that was back in 1960 before everyone had cellphones. Someone arriving to an accident scene would have take off to find the nearest pay phone.

There were some roads in Kenya like that. My dad told me that back in the 1930s when he was a kid, he heard about a British colonist driving alone who was drunk and ran off the road and struck a tree. It was two days before the next car came by where it happened. As for the driver's cause of death, back in those days cars did not have safety glass or double ply windshields like cars have now days. Back then when car glass broke, it broke like glass in a house window breaks, and car glass was thick. Also, cars did not have seat belts to prevent occupants from slamming into the windshield. It was determined that the driver bled to death after being cut up by broken glass during the accident.

Good Lord, the man must have had a horrifying death! He must have suffered a terrible and lonely death, one can only hope that he wasn't concious when it happened. I do remember cars which don't have seats, I saw people in Egypt who still used those back in the early 2000s. They repaired really old cars instead of buying new ones (my own family mostly used camels and horses, they live in areas where cars are mostly useless).
